Beginners' pastel painting workshop at fabulous Glasfryn Hall, North East Wales

X

Description

Learn all about pastels and how to paint with them in the fabulous setting of Glasfryn Hall, a fine country house on the edge of the Clwydian hills, North Wales. This one-day workshop is perfect if you have no, or limited, experience of using pastels. They are a really accessible art medium so it doesn't matter if you haven't done any painting before or are someone who already enjoys working in other media but would like to give pastels a try. Whatever your level, you will learn new tips and tricks and by the end of the day you will have completed your own masterpiece to take home with you! The workshop will take place in a fun and relaxing atmosphere with just a small group of participants (maximum of 6). Glasfryn Hall is the home, gallery and studio of your host, Dave Roberts, a professional pastel artist who specialises in painting the landscapes of North Wales. Consequently, the focus of the workshop will also be on landscape painting. Within the grounds of Glasfryn Hall is Oriel Glasfryn Gallery, showcasing the work of 35 Welsh artists and makers. The workshop is suitable for ages 12+. Glasfryn Hall is just 2 minutes off the A55 North Wales Expressway. Chester is 30 minutes drive, Liverpool 45 minutes and Manchester 1 hour. Flint train station (west coast mainline) is 20 minutes away.

Maker

I'm a self taught pastel artist specialising in capturing the stunning beauty of North Wales. After a career in the charity sector, I became a full-time professional artist in 2018. My paintings can be found in galleries across the UK. I'm lucky enough to live in a beautiful country house in north east Wales (the venue for the workshops) and I opened my own gallery in the grounds at Easter 2022 (orielglasfryn.com). As well as my own paintings, it showcases the work of over 30 other Welsh 3-d artists and will be open on the day of your workshop. My work is the antithesis of how most people would imagine a pastel painting to be; they are bold and vivid with lots of detail. Commentators appreciate their almost photographic style.
