Kate Morrell willow sculpture courses

Learn to sculpt your own small willow animal in the grounds of my home in the beautiful setting of Donington Le Heath. We can work indoors or outdoors (weather permitting). Come and join me for a fun and relaxed informal day willow weaving.

To start off with I would recommend a small animal or bird as the craft is very time consuming and I want you to leave with a finished piece of willow sculpture. I will show you the techniques I use to make the sculpture from start to finish and feel free to bring along any pictures to work from, or I can print a picture of your choosing as a reference for you to work from when you arrive.
Please email me with the date you are interested in.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Tea/coffee and a light lunch will be provided throughout the day and materials are included in the price.
We are close to Kelham Bridge nature reserve if you fancied a short walk on your break.
I would recommend that you choose a small sculpture to start with and if you could think about what you would like to make and advise me it would be very helpful so I can plan your day.
We have accomodation in the village available if you need to stay over just ask for details on booking

Firstly my apologies it has taken me this long to leave a review - not sure where the time has gone. I have nothing but good things to say about Kate and the course. She and her husband were very welcoming and the environment for doing the course, in a tent in their beautiful garden, is amazing. I could have quite easily sat in their garden for the afternoon with their dog and enjoyed their company and the sunshine, let alone doing the course.

My wife and I both did a heron each and we were amazed that we were able to create something so large in just one day without much of a clue what we were doing! Kate was an excellent teacher and was supportive of my at time haphazard efforts and always willing to help un-wonky my bird! It was a willow wedding anniversary present and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you again!

Pat - - #39900

We had a great day with Kate. I made a Heron, my daughter made a Pheasant.
We were both beginners and even though we were in a group of 8, Kate gave us lots of help and advice and generally encouraged us to make amazing willow sculptures.
We enjoyed sandwiches, pizza and cakes for lunch, and plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day.
We would definitely recommend the course.
Leave plenty of room in your car, my Heron is taller than me!

Densie - - #39859

A Wonderful Day
We both came home with a superb duck
Kate was very attentive and helpful
A wonderful light lunch was enjoyed in the garden sun

Simon Machin - - #39844

I bought this course for my wife, and she absolutely loved it. Kate was an incredibly patient teacher, the class size was small allowing 1-1 help, the setting was wonderful, and it was an amazing day. My wife was an absolute beginner but by the end of the day had produced a wonderful sculpture. Can't recommend this course enough.

Judith - - #39671

I had the best of times. Made to feel very welcome and Kate was so patient and supportive. I would recommend the course to both crafters and those that don’t feel they are crafters, like me. Kate ensures you leave with a sculpture. Great day!

Vanessa Genesis - - #39100

We had such a brilliant day, this workshop is amazing value for money. Kate is very patient and encourages you every step of the way. Also very impressed with lunch and refreshments were offered throughout the day.
Will definitely be attending again!

Hannah - - #38900

I had a great time willow weaving with Kate and others who were on the course that day. I had gone on my own and everyone was very friendly which was great. Kate is very skilled at what she does and seemed to have lots of tips to help us make our designs look good, she clearly is a very talented artist too. We were fortunate with the weather so had a lovely time in the marquee in the beautiful garden. Thanks for a great day 👍

Martin - - #38078

An intensive and fun introduction to willow weaving in the studio set in Kate's lovely garden - which had examples of her work dotted around for us to get inspiration from. With Kate's expert guidance three herons, a rabbit, pheasant, a duck and a chicken left in the clutches of the course members. Thoroughly recommended.

Grace Evans - - #38022

Had a great day with Kate. My hare sculpture was larger than I thought, good value for money. Excellent pizza in a lovely garden

Alexander Bacon - - #37276

Super course. Very well organised. Kate is very patient, knowledgable and a great teacher. I had no experience with willow sculptures and created a fantastic Heron! Great lunch, lots of tea and a fun day. I highly recommend the course!

Diana Horrocks - - #37030

We had a very enjoyable day with Kate who helped us make our beautiful heron and hare. Excellent refreshments and a purpose built workshop made this a very good experience

Emma jamie - - #36710

Had a wonderful day out on Kates willow course. Kate was an excellent teacher and was very patient with us all. We were given an excellent lunch and I went home with a beautiful Pheasant sculpture. I will certainly be booking another course later in the year.

Janice Weston Smith - - #36668

My husband and I attended the course on the 22nd January 2022. We enjoyed our day and found it quite challenging but Kate was excellent in aiding and abetting. My chicken worked out well once I could see where I was going, and the dachshund, which was a bit ambitious for a day, turned out really well after much assistance from Kate. Both were instantly recognisable to our grandchildren.
Lunch was soup and filled rolls….excellent homemade produce and along with cake and hot drinks kept us going.
I found it fascinating watching Kate working and seeing balls of woven willow become herons and an owl in flight.
We would definitely go again. Now I can see how it works I might even be more adventurous and create a flock of hens.
Thank you Kate

Paula - - #36624

Fantastic day. Kate was inspirational. Lunch was provided and coffee and biscuits in the morning. I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering to take the course.

Loraine - - #35772

A lovely relaxing day sculpting an animal of our choice. Nice working in a group of seven. Kate does a wonderful job, ensuring we all keep on track and leave with something lovely at the end of the day. Refreshments on-demand and delicious lunch. Highly recommended.

Debbie Saward - - #35642

A great day with Kate and the other students. Kate provided great support and is very skilled in willow sculpture. I was delighted with the hare I made. The lunch was good too.

Heather - - #35232

Kate provided the perfect amount of support and encouragement to make me feel a huge sense of achievement in making my sculpture. We all had a fabulous day, chatting and learning, eating a lovely lunch and meeting Dave and Teddy too. I would definitely recommend this course for a beginner or an artsy type, and am thoroughly chuffed with my pheasant!

Helen F - - #34649

I would happily recommend this course. There were 7 us of there and between us we made 6 different animals! This must have been slightly challenging for Kate but she was very patient and supportive and the results were good. We worked in a small marquee and ate our very pleasant lunch in the garden. I was pleased with my efforts and my willow pheasant is proudly sitting on our garden wall.

Helen H - - #34198

A fabulous crafting experience! Delighted with the willow runner duck I managed to create with the guidance and help of Kate. Lovely location, great lunch, fun company :)
Would highly recommend.

Hilary - - #34166

Today I’ve had a really lovely day learning to willow weave with Kate. Talented and so patient I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher, she enabled me to come home with a very presentable sculpture that far exceeded my expectations and those of my family. Couple this with a lovely venue and a delicious lunch served by Dave, I cannot recommend this course highly enough. No experience needed and very good value, I shall definitely be going back

Helen Russell - - #34164

Just had a wonderful relaxing day today making a willow heron. Kate is a very patient tutor and helped us along with creating a beautiful heron. The project was perfect for me as I am a beginner to willow sculpting. As the weather was so good we were able to sit in the shade in Kate’s beautiful garden to work away building our heron. Thanks must also go to Dave for producing a delicious lunch and keeping us supplied with refreshments.

Kay Wainman - - #33026

Thoroughly enjoyable day producing a willow sculpture heron under the expert and patient guidance of Kate. Totally thrilled with the result, exceeding my expectations of what I could produce. Would highly recommend!

suzy Townsend - - #32950

We had a really enjoyable day with Kate who is skilled and patience tutor, we came home with a fantastic heron, and i found it very therapeutic , highly recommend. I already have the next project in mind. Cannot forget Dave who put on a good spread for lunch.

Pam Stephen - - #32912

Had great fun making a willow cockerel. Kate is a very patient and points out what would improve the sculpture you are making, making it more balanced and filling in any holes. (of which I had a few)
Really interesting and I would love to come back and make another animal.
I had a really good day out highly recommended.

Lynda - - #32723

What can I say! Kate was amazing, professional and so patient.I would highly recommend anyone to book on her work shop - Kate’s skills in willow sculptures and painting are amazing - very talented and kind person. Dave’s lunch was awesome and so tentative to my dietary needs-. Thank you for a very special day , you both went above and beyond xx

Sarah Volans-Seymour - - #31016

A fantastic day with Kate!
With Kate’s guidance and help, we both came away with our wonderful master pieces!
We were made to feel very welcome by Kate and Dave, and lunch was superb.
Highly recommend this workshop.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Many thanks was lovely to meet you both

Liz - - #30584

I booked this course with three girl friends, and it was a really fun day out. Kate provides one-to-one guidance throughout the day, and is very subtle in making adjustments (if needed) so that even the least-skilled weaver goes home with an impressive sculpture that closely resembles what you set out to achieve!

Heidi Turtill - - #30506

This is my second willow sculpture workshop with Kate having completed a marvellous heron first time around and this time a barn owl in flight. Excellent workshop, great to come away with a decent piece at the end of a very enjoyable day. Kate is relaxed, easy going and accommodating, guides you through the stages of sculpting the willow into your desired piece without fuss, stress or despair and if you trust Kate and go with the process you get amazing results! The day is therapeutic and we enjoyed Kate and Dave's hospitality with lovely tea, coffee and lunch. A great day, highly recommended.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Many thanks for your kind words i so enjoyed the day lots of laughs and lovely sculptures

Debbie Waterworth - - #30427

I enjoyed a great workshop with Kate this week. Kate offers a choice of sculpture you would like to make which is rare in this kind of workshop along with just the right amount of guidance in a relaxed environment. Lunch and refreshments are provided throughout the day and at the end you take home a fabulous sculpture. I would highly recommend.

Frances - - #30396

Spent a great day with Kate learning how to weave willow. I was a complete beginner but came away with an imposing 6 foot heron which I am delighted with and which has already garnered many positive comments. I will definitely be attending another course in the near future

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Hopefully see you at larkswold? Many thanks for a great day and your heron was superb well done!

Annie - - #30393

What a rewarding day spent willow weaving with Kate. Fabulous tutor, so patient and encouraging. Lovely group of weavers too making a hare and herons, I made a chicken “Henny Penny”. Lovely to see how we each created our animals. Plenty of refreshments and lovely lunch all included and served by Kate's partner. What a lovely way to spend a very wet Wednesday. Thank you Kate and partner.

Vicki Doe - - #30219

Excellent day. Made a large rabbit, very hands on and great tuition, very relaxed and for someone very un-artistic great to come home with something I had made. I would recommend to anyone.

Naledi - - #29969

The workshop was a birthday present for my partner and we really enjoyed the experience. We made life size pigs and Kate surprised us with a piglet to complete the family. Kate was very friendly and patient and her instructions were easy to follow. Lunch was delicious and plentiful and overall we had an excellent day. We absolutely recommend joining Kate on one of her workshops.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Many thanks had a lovely day with you both and was amazed how well you did. Really brilliant

Jill Smith - - #29914

My friend and I spent a lovely day on one of Kate's willow weaving courses yesterday. Even though the weather was not kind we had shelter, a tasty lunch and a very warm welcome. Social distancing was observed throughout. I came away with a duck sculpture of which I am delighted. Kate is calm and has a way of giving you just the right amount of help to keep things on track. Thanks for a great day!

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Thank you for your lovely comments it was a pleasure meeting you both i had a nice day withl lots of laughs

Alison Smith - - #29437

A wonderful experience, in the perfect setting. I created an amazing willow hare. Kate is a brilliant tutor, never having done willow work before she gave me confidence to go for it, with lots of quiet and very patient help from her. The course gives a unique insight to this ancient art. With a real life result to take home with you. Can't wait to do another day.
Homemade lunch was delicious, but couldn’t wait to start the ‘ears “next on the ‘hare’ agenda. Thank you Kate.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Thanks alison. I enjoyed the day and you made such an amazing hare.
Well done!!

Tricia Hudson - - #27724

Had a fantastic inspiring day with Kate on Saturday. I was a little apprehensive at first but was soon put at ease. I found Kate's instructions easy to follow and I didn't feel rushed at all. A great way to completely absorb yourself from the outside world and relax. The provided lunch was fabulous and home cooked. This workshop was bought as a Christmas present from my husband, and a great one it was and still is as I have a wonderful Heron waiting to go outside in the Spring. Thank you Kate for your patience.

Dorothea Hill - - #27364

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent willow weaving course with Kate. She is a warm and chatty host. She shares her enthusiasm and talent with every member of the group and ensures everyone leaves with a sense of pride in what they have achieved. Henrietta the hare will join the rest of the "garden gang " when the weather is warmer. I would thoroughly recommend this course to everyone.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Many thanks for your lovely comments.
Im so pleased you enjoyed your day

Tina B - - #27254

I have had such a lovely day today learning to willow weave a barn owl in flight, well worth driving from Suffolk for. Dave and Kate have been fantastic hosts welcoming me warmly even though I arrived early. Kate is a brilliant teacher, guiding, inspiring and helping as and when needed, and generous with her time. I had to leave on time as a long drive home but my owl is very nearly complete and Kate gave me enough rods and confidence to finish it at leisure tomorrow myself at home. I will definitely return for another workshop. It was also lovely to see the other sculptures taking shape today, a really cute lop eared rabbit and very elegant flamingo. Great lunch and plenty of drinks, and loved Bertie the cat who appeared at my feet now and then. My plan is to hang my owl from a high ceiling in my hallway.

Jake Brooks - - #26793

My mum booked me on one of Kate’s willow sculpture courses for my birthday. I had a fantastic day learning to weave, there were several other people on the course that had a bit more experience which worried me, but Kate explained everything and I ended up being over the moon with my sculpture! I would highly recommend any course ran by Kate, she’s very easy to get along with and a great host. The food at lunch was delicious and there was plenty of it. I’ll definitely be back.

Response from Kate Morrell willow sculpture:

Thanks jake your fox was amazing and thanks for the great review i had a lovely day with all of you.
Good luck with any future projects
Kate x

Ming Tang - - #26613

This is my second time with Kate, I made a heron on the first course and a baby deer on this occasion. Kate is so artistic and really brings her eye to helping you get the best proportions and correct anatomy, so that your piece not only looks great, but has a genuine likeness and personality!
I will definitely recommend this course, lovely atmosphere and food, and Kate is truly patient and passionate about her craft.

B Collins - - #25428

Had a really enjoyable day on this course. The finished result is beyond what I thought would be possible as a beginner, mainly due to Kate’s patient guidance and expertise. I imagined going home with a small willow animal, but came home with a full sized standing duck! My sister created an impressive full sized heron which looks amazing next to her pond. Kate is very welcoming and has such a calm nature which puts everyone at ease. I was lost in the moment for most of the day so as well as being productive it was also a very relaxing day. Lunch was delicious, with homemade soup, sandwiches, flatbreads and a delicious slice of homemade cake. Kate made sure everyone received 1:1 attention and guidance as well as instructing us as a group. I would definitely recommend this course, it was beyond my expectations.

Kim Worthington - - #25303

Kate is friendly and enthusiastic. I was welcomed into her home along with 6 others. We could choose which animal we wanted to create and I chose a wren. Most of the others chose cranes and ducks. I think in hindsight I should have gone with the rest of the class, as they were taken through each step in the process. I could, of course, apply the techniques to my bird but there were differences in what I needed to do. Having said that, it was great fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Kate came round to each of us individually to coach and encourage. She was in no rush to finish the day, and gave clear instruction with patience and humour.

We were treated to an excellent lunch which included an enormous slice of homemade carrot cake made to her Mum's recipe.

Thank you Kate. I had a lovely day.

Rachel Thompson - - #25129

Two of us attended Kate's workshop today. Complete novices and we actually came home having completed a heron each! Kind instruction from Kate, a warm welcome and lovely lunch. This was gifted to us by a family member so its lovely to be able to say a huge thank you to Kate and to our family for the gift too.
I highly recommend this to anyone as a beginning. One course may not be enough.

Helen - - #23871

Spent a lovely day with Kate learning how to make a willow sculpture. Never done this craft before and found Kate's instruction helpful and patient; she kept me on track so that I had a finished item by the end of the day, a heron. The workshop was held in Kate's beautiful garden and she provided refreshments and a lovely lunch. Very enjoyable and fantastic to come away with a finished item. Planning my next visit with a friend to develop my skills.

Jane Hall - - #23531

Another fantastic day with Kate, this time making a rabbit - totally different from the dragonfly I made the first time I attended her workshop. Kate is very enthusiastic, helpful and really knows how to work her magic with willow! I will definitely be going back a third time - I have room for a small menagerie of animals in the garden. Thanks again Kate.

Anne Boulger - - #23525

I’ve just returned from Kate’s wonderful workshop.
It really was a fabulous day. Kate is so knowledgeable about her craft and definitely has an eye for form.
She is patient and helpful and so relaxed with it all so in turn your more relaxed and enjoy what your creating.
I left with a very big heron and I’ve passed the pictures all round my friends and the response is amazing.
Thank you so much Kate...... I definitely will be back.

Cath Mears & Linda palmer - - #23072

We thoroughly enjoyed our Willow Sculpture workshop. Excellent tutoring from Kate. We made a heron and a hare which we are very proud of. Kate was most helpful, informative and creative. She was very attentive and made sure we were on the right track all the time and was more than happy to help us whenever we asked.
Kate has a great workshop environment and lots of sculptures for ideas and inspiration.
A great day out with a lovely lunch thrown in.
Highly recommended.
Thank you Kate.

Julie - - #22524

A huge thank you to Kate and Dave for our lovely day with you. We were a group of 7 adults, including my brother and brother-in-law, who were a little reticent at the outset. By the end of the day, we had enjoyed a very nice lunch in the garden, (served by Dave) and with Kate's patient, gentle assistance, we had produced 3 mallards, 2 herons and 2 running ducks - all of them looking splendid.
The men had taken to the task very well and secretly enjoyed every minute, as did the rest of us. I am especially grateful to Kate and Dave for all the extra thoughtful touches you provided in celebration of my big round number birthday- including decorations, serviettes and the most fabulous cake. You really are a very special talented lady.

We all had a wonderful full day and I would not hesitate to recommend Kate's courses to anyone. Thank you so much.

Holly Bryan - - #22316

Loved my birthday present of willow weaving with Kate and ended up making a squirrel. Kate was extremely helpful and patient and assisted to create a sculpture that I ended up being really proud of. The workshop is in beautiful surroundings (her lovely garden) and lunch was nice too. I hope to come back again. Highly recommended!

Jane - - #21918

Had a fabulous day with Kate making a dragonfly. Thoroughly delighted with it - just need to finish off the infill in the wings at home, as I ran out of time. Kate is very talented and very patient with you. Lunch was lovely sat in the garden. What a way to spend a Saturday - wonderful!! I shall definitely be going back to make something else. Thank you Kate.

Lorna - - #21914

Had a really great day, lovely lunch, and made a great duck! We had never done this before so were complete novices, but we managed to leave with a complete duck each.
I would definitely recommend this course.

Michael Walters - - #21740

We came along with zero skills and a desire to create: we were not disappointed!
It was a very relaxing day in Kate’s lovely home with a small group. By the end, a couple of herons, rabbits and a giant chicken were all made (& looked great!).
For me, my proudest moment: Derek the giant Dodo was born in the room!
Plenty of refreshments, a lovely lunch and some good banter throughout: Kate is a great artist, able to help guide us to our destination. Highly recommended!
Lovely to meet Borris the Schnauzer too :)

Ispouse - - #21156

Kate is an excellent teacher - patient and very good at showing/explaining what needs to be done. To start without a scratch of knowledge and to come away with a substantially sized heron within one day is truly amazing. Highly recommended. Thanks Kate!

Stella Preston - - #21033

A really enjoyable day spent with my two daughters at Kate's lovely home. I am very proud of my beautiful willow heron, thank you Kate for all of your help and encouragement. Thanks also to Dave for a delicious lunch. Stella P

Brenda Harvey - - #21032

Have just had a wonderful day at Kate's with my mum and sister. We each managed to make a beautiful heron (mine is called Harry) despite never having tried willow sculpting before. Kate was very patient and always on hand to help with the shaping as our masterpieces progressed - so our creations really do look like herons! Would highly recommend this course, we are all very happy with our finished birds. Thank you Kate, we will be back. Thanks also to Dave for the lovely lunch (and Cake!). Brenda H

Carol Evans - - #20909

What a wonderful day. Kate and David made me feel very welcome along with Boris the family dog.
Kate is a very talented artist and sculptor. Lots of enthusiasm and patience ensuring we all had an equal amount of her time .
I had a wonderful day and came away with a great lop eared bunny , cant wait for the next workshop . Many thanks to you both

Heather - - #20613

What a great day! Welcomed by Kate and David in to their lovely home. Great tuition from Kate and fabulous lunch from David. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly banter added to the experience. We all left with our fabulous woven sculptures and I am the proud owner of an Indian running duck now named Gerald. Kate is a very talented artist, and willow sculptress and examples of her work are just fabulous. Thank you both for a great day and kate especially your patience. I will be back again I’m sure.

Angela - - #20609

This was a brilliant course to go on, with no experience at all everyone came home with a really good willow sculpture. Both Kate and husband were so helpful. Kate was a really patient and knowledgeable teacher whilst Dave produced a delicious soup and sandwich lunch. I would recommend this course to anyone.

L Pearson - - #19268

Fantastic day working hard under Kate's very patient supervision. I completed a heron which is taller than me very satisfying. Would recommend this for someone who enjoys doing something different. The lunch was very tasty thanks to dave.

Rob - - #19153

An enjoyable day with other like-minded types spent creating a small willow sculpture under the expert guidance of Kate at her workshop/home. From thinking I'd never be able to create anything at the start of the day, at the end I had a pheasant which actually looked like a pheasant!....It was a lovely space to work in, and we all enjoyed the lunch provided. All in all an informative and fun day, as well as producing a unique piece of craft to take home and display.

julia lynn - - #19143

just spent the most lovely day at Kates Willow Weaving day with my three Arty chums . We between us made Darwin the Duck, Hettie the Heron, Tilly the Tortoise and Ruby the Rabbit . Fabulous fun with a very skilfull and patient teacher. Kate managed with the four of us choosing to make a different sculpture each and guided and helped us all with a smile.
Very friendly and welcoming, lovely lunch and many cups of tea ....just a perfect day out Thank you

Odette - - #19093

Really enjoyed learning how to weave willow - Kate shares her knowledge and passion and tricks for taming the willow, friendly and relaxed and a treat to bring home our own creations at the end of the day. My kiwi has received lots of compliments and has pride of place in the house now! Thank you Kate and also Dave for the tasty lunch, much appreciated.

Thank you for such a great day. You made me very welcome and you obviously love your willow work and this shows through when showing us how to make things. This course was a present from my husband and he was so surprised when I bought home a duck - which looked like a duck!!! Kate is an excellent teacher, friendly, helpful and so patient - which she needed to be. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone. She provided plenty of hot drinks and the homemade lunch was excellent too. I'm no artist and found that you don't need to be to make an willow animal. Kate shows you a picture of your choosen animal/bird/insect and shows you how to go about it. She will help you when you need it, but guides you. I would love to come on another course some day and possibly make another creature! I'm so pleased that I learnt how to do basic willow weaving. Thanks again, Diana

Kate Evans - - #16434

I attended the course on 18/8/19. My mum and I had a fabulous day. Kate helped me to make a very original design for my son... a pterodactyl!!! We were very impressed with the tuition and relaxed environment. Would defiantly recommend this course.
Thanks Kate

Petra chuter - - #16380

Myself and my husband Dave had a fantastic day with Kate making our Heron and Hare sculptures.

Great hosts.
Thanks Petra& Dave

ISOBEL KNIGHT - - #16356

My daughter and I had a fantastic day yesterday with Kate and Dave. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the willow and I made a heron whilst my daughter made a rabbit. Kate took us through step by step and all the creations looked amazing. The willow was easy to work with and I was amazed how the sculptures took shape starting with a ball. Thanks again Kate it was really enjoyable and I would do it again and recommend to anyone who wants to have a go. We were complete beginners and managed to make an amazing creation. Thanks to Dave for the fabulous lunch too.

William Darrall - - #16331

Karen Tandy - - #16106

I had a brilliant two days working with Kate. I made a pair of boxing hares and I'm absolutely delighted with the results. I worked in Kate's beautiful garden and a lovely home made lunch was provided with plenty of refreshments throughout the day. Kate is an extremely talented and fabulous teacher. She is patient and a really lovely lady, who is fun to be with. Kate is a perfectionist and helped me with the proportions of the hares. She also gave me advise on how to treat them, so they will still look good whatever the weather. All my friends who have seen my sculptures have been amazed. I'm really tempted to have another day with Kate, to make something else, if I can find room in my garden for it. If you want to do a willow sculpture, then look no further than Kate Morrell, you won't be disappointed. Thanks again Kate for a truly wonderful weekend.

Joan - - #15996

Superb day of craftwork. Made a willow chicken along with her chick and Kate kindly added a couple more chicks so I had a real family. Kate's teaching was excellent, she provided cake and coffee and a super lunch and we worked in her lovely garden, what more could you wish for on a beautiful summers day. There were only two of us on the course today which we agreed was great as we had lots of individual tuition but usually the numbers are more, up to six, but given her skills that would be fine I'm sure. If you fancy a go at Willow sculpture this is definitely the lady to go to. Thank you Kate for such a lovely day.

Elaine - - #15502

My friend and I had a brilliant day with Kate. There were 6 of us in total and all got on really well with plenty of humour. Kate is a brilliant teacher who asks what we'd like to make and what would be realistic! She demonstrated everything as many times as needed. We all were going at our own pace, supplied with plenty of drinks. Dave provided lunch which was lovely and attention paid to allergies. Whilst we sat eating lunch Kate went round to each piece of work to tidy up/strengthen so when we went back to our piece we could carry on knowing that it would be ok. Kate's garden is gorgeous with her cats, dog and hens around. We all left amazed at our achievements and hooked on a new hobby thanks to such a great teacher who instilled her love of the craft to us. Well worth every penny! Thanks Kate and Dave

Linda Byrne - - #15494

Had a fantastic day with Kate today, in her lovely garden. Have never tried willow weaving before, but Kate was a brilliant teacher and taught with calmness and patience as we tried to grasp the basics!! There were 6 of us today, and we all went home having made our first willow sculptures - herons, a chicken and even a deer. The atmosphere was brilliant, we all had a good laugh. Excellent lunch and refreshments provided, as well as cakes.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and will definately be returning to make something different.

Attended Kate’s Willow Sculpture course today with my 13 year old son.
We both had a brilliant day and both produced our own piece, although my son’s was better than mine!
Kate was great with both of us , helping and encouraging, my son was especially pleased with his cat!
Good value for money and a great day.

What a fabulous course this was. Kate was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and a great teacher!!! I made a Stag’s head....amazing!!! The setting was beautiful, a lovely lunch was provided, with gorgeous homemade cake, served with unlimited amounts of tea and coffee. Would not hesitate in highly recommending this willow sculpture course!!

Thank you Kate - you have certainly helped us to make a memory. Your garden is beautiful and was the perfect setting to spend the day in the sunshine, away from the hustle and bustle, learning something. It was wonderful to share a day with your passion, creativity and skill. I can't believe I came away with something so fantastic - and complete.
Also, thank you to Boris and Dave for adding to the brilliant day.

We both really enjoyed this course. Kate was an excellent teacher very patient with all us novices. I made a lovely goose which I am really proud of, Alan was a little over ambitious making a fox, which he completed 90% of, Kate has kindly offered to finish it off for him. Lovely lunch and plenty of drinks. Had a lovely day.

This was a birthday gift for me and my sister. What a great day we had. Didn't expect to come home with our master pieces, so pleased with them. Kate is very talented and very patient. Help on hand when needed. Stopped for a lovely lunch which was also provided. Would definitely recommend this day to all. Thank you

Absolutely loved me day willow weaving with Kate, she is a great teacher and provides the perfect guidance to help you make your sculpture! I made a heron and I love it!! An amazing course,
Definitely worth doing!!

Lucy Watson - - #13404

An absolutely lovely course to take and spend a day learning something new. Kate is a very friendly and competent teacher and we came away with an excellent piece of artwork each. Kate will keep you right throughout your project and make sure you get the most out of it. Lunch was also spot on with plenty cups of tea in offer! Fully recommend this course as a day out!

Me and my mum thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have now found a new hobby that we are definitely going to take up. Very much recommended!!!!! Its fascinating seeing how things come to life. Kate definitely has a eye for detail and imagination and it shows in a lot of work she has done everything seems to have a character no willow sculpture is the same. The course felt so relaxing as it's set in Kate's home with the fire going and lovely greenery outside, not to mention the yummy hand made food. Kate even went to the trouble of making my own lot of sandwiches as have certain intolerances. I would say this course is for anyone who is interested in anything craft related or just wants a day to relax and be creative sign up!!!!!

I attended this course with my parents this weekend and had an excellent time. None of us had done any weaving before, and left at the end of the day with a fully formed heron, runner duck and fawn. Thank you Kate for all your patience, teaching and hospitality - we achieved what none of us had really thought possible at the start of the day, and that we can now display in pride of place! Lunch was also fantastic. Thank you again Kate - we would highly recommend this course!

Sian Cooke - - #12733

Had a fantastic day Kate and family very welcoming. Food good too. Would recommend course.
Very friendly and warm atmosphere as well as help with sculpting our animals into looking like the real thing. Helpful tips.
Would go again but maybe choose something easier to make as I was a bit over ambitious.

Nicky Ward - - #12472

Had a brilliant day making a hare - very impressed even though I do say so myself :)

Arrived at 1000 for coffee and had a lovely lunch at 1. Fabulous day and would thoroughly recommend it.

Have just returned from course with Kate. With a very large heron in tow. Never thought I could create such a beautiful sculpture in such a short time. Kate is a very creative person in so many ways. Helped me when I was struggling and showed me how to get proportions correct. Excellent day with good food and drinks. Can thoroughly recommend.

Debby and nina - - #12248

What a fantastic day! Kate is clearly a talented and experienced craftsperson who is passionate about her work. She supported us every step of the way and after lots of encouragement we are now the proud owners of a pecking hen and a sitting hare! Kate's home and gardens are the perfect setting for the day and homemade soup for lunch on a cold winters day was just perfect.....thank you Kate x

Debi Scott - - #11975

Fabulous day making a small deer. I’m not at all arty or talented and making willow animals is hard but Kate was great guiding us through it all of the way and providing lots of help and assistance. I finished my deer at home today and I am very proud of him. Wonderful day with a great lunch and a roaring fire to keep us toasty. I’ll definitely return. Thank you

Linda Bickley - - #11847

What a fabulous day, good company, lovely lunch but above all great encouragement and tuition from Kate. My daughter and I are now very proud owners of two stag heads. Dave assisted us in providing the wire to wall mount them and even a set of lights for their antlers to show them off in the Christmas spirit! We have been complimented many times by family and friends on our artistic efforts but also on Kate's skill and eye for detail that makes them so realistic.

Davena Cole - - #11751

What a lovely weekend making a weaving a willow deer - much larger than anticipated and only just got it in the car! Kate is a very pleasant & talented lady who will not let you go wrong so you will not be dissappointed with your efforts of the day. The 2 day course was quite hard work for 70 year old fingers but I got there in the end with the help of Kate and her husband, who, incidently made a grand lunch for us all. Money well spent. easy to find. Easy to enjoy. Thanks, will not think twice about another course if the mood takes me to make another animal. Very recommendable for a gift or just to have a day off from the norm.

Nicola Bunce - - #11451

What an amazing day!
Kate is such a patient and informative tutor and so talented.
The bundle of willow soon transformed into recognisable animals from the group. I managed to make a fawn with mine!
My family were really impressed when I returned home.
It was a great day. I would definitely recommend the course.

Helen Griffiths - - #11436

An amazing day. Under the instruction of the incredibly talented and creative Kate, I took willow sticks and throughout the course of the day learned how to craft and weave them into a lamb. Thank you Kate for such an enjoyable day.

Hazel Jeffrey - - #11244

I have just spent a day with my sisters at Kate's immersing ourselves in sculpting willow - learning a new and exciting skill. Kate was incredibly supportive throughout, spending time with each of us and showing us how to construct a heron, a sitting hare and a running hare between us. I don't think any of us really believed we would come home with such huge willow structures and we all felt a great sense of achievement. Kate supplied additional willow so we could continue to work on our creations at home. We all feel we can continue to develop our skills going forward.
Thanks so much for a wonderful day Kate.

Lisa - - #10509

I've never worked with willow before so wasn't sure what to expect. Had a brilliant, relaxing day which flew by. With Kate's help and guidance I took home a beautiful willow hare, which my friends are very impressed by. Kate was very patient and supportive. I would recommend the course to anyone wanting to try their hand at willow sculpting. :)

Kim - - #10322

Booked this with my daughter as an end of exams treat. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day and made some fantastic sculptures (a heron and a turtle). We'd love to come again sometime and make something else. Sitting in Kate's garden enjoying the sunshine and the peaceful surroundings was idyllic. Thank you.

Sally - - #10237

An absolutely fantastic day with the very lovely Kate. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful squirrel! Kate is a great teacher, not only in the 'how to' of willow weaving but also in getting the proportions right. A wonderful day that went by really fast! A lovely lunch and refreshments throughout the day (thanks Dave!) and of course the company of Boris! Thanks so much Kate xxx

Rachel White - - #10031

I don't see how this course could be improved. It was excellent from start to finish.

Suzanne - - #10008

I've just spent a most enjoyable day making a huge willow heron! I never imagined I'd be able to create something so fabulous in a day, having never done any willow weaving before. Kate was very patient, explained everything clearly and was always on hand for advice and to help with all the tricky bits. A really fun day with lovely people. Highly recommended!!

Coral - - #9850

Thoroughly enjoyable course. Everyone in our group made something that was worth taking home even though we were all complete beginners! Would recommend it.

Lynda Ashton - - #9730

An excellent day's course. Relaxed and very informative, with very exciting and pleasing results. Being able to work outside in Kate's lovely garden was an additional bonus.
Kate was able to direct and support us in a very calm and creative way, whilst Dave provided very welcome food and drink support.
Would thoroughly recommend the day.

Alicia - - #9497

A great willow weaving course! Really enjoyed creating my rabbit sculpture in the sunshine! Food provided was lovely too. Highly recommend this course

Willow Sculpture - - #9413

Brilliant day. 4 Hours to make my very large Heron. Hard work but very satisfying. Kate made the day very enjoyable and provided an excellent lunch and many drinks.
Great way to switch off for a day and go home with something beautiful to show off with.

Karen Dignan - - #9412

Just finished an amazing day making a willow sculpture. It has been a sunny, hot, beautiful day and so lucky that we did the course in the garden. Kate is so talented and a great teacher. I am delighted with my duck. Particularly since I have not tried this sort of thing before.

Gill Lee - - #9369

I had a brilliant day. It is really inspiring to create a sculpture from willow wands. With Kate's excellent tuition it was amazing to see my heron develop. Kate was very helpful and on hand for some of the trickier bits. The 6 or so hours sped by with a break for a lovely buffet lunch provided by Kate. We were also kept well watered with tea and coffee all day; willow weaving is thirsty work! This is a great way to spend a day and to have something creative to show for it at the end. Highly recommended for a really enjoyable day! Thanks Kate

Terence Green - - #8957

What a fab day we had with Kate, making our herons. We were very proud of what we achieved in a day, thanks to Kate's guidance. Would recommend it to anyone who has never done willow weaving before or if you are looking for something different as a present. Thank you to husband Dave for the cups of tea and lunch.

Barbara & Amey - - #8925

Just home from a brilliant day making our willow animals. Mum made a star gazing hare and I made a heron. The course is really relaxed and Kate is a fantastic tutor and host with so much patience. Would really recommend this course to anyone whether you have never done willow weaving before or a complete amateur like us. I am so proud to put my handy work on show and can't wait to attend another course.

Alison - - #8767

What can I say! A fabulous day. Times of frustration. Times of quiet concentration. But also plenty of giggles and laughter. I opted for a cat and my friend opted for a penguin. Kate had never made a penguin before but my friend left with one anyway. Kate was a great host and a fantastic teacher. Her instructions were clear. She was patient with our frustrations and poor weaving. She had time for everyone and ensured we all left happy with our sculpture. She even allowed the slower weavers - me and friend - overtime to ensure we completed our animals. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be planning another visit! Thanks Kate

Sam & Dave - - #8475

We were given this as a Christmas present and neither one of us had done anything remotely like this before! We had a truly wonderful day. There were 9 of us all of whom were completely new to making willow sculptures. We both made a duck - one standing and one sitting down. We were both surprised at how we were actually able to make a complete duck in a day! At one point I did think mine was going to transform into either a swan or a peacock. But it finally came together in the end. There was a lovely lunch provided by Kate's husband Dave. Who was also on hand to make tea/coffee throughout the day. We actually surprised ourselves at how much we enjoyed this course particularly as we had never done anything like this before. I would thoroughly recommend anyone having a go.

Adele Simpson - - #8457

My mum, sister & I recently spent the day with Kate making willow herons and a crow. The atmosphere was relaxed, supportive and friendly - the other people (approx 9 of us in total) on the course were all in the same boat complete beginners.
We all had a brilliant day and couldn't believe from humble willow rods beginnings to making a 3d circle which we weren't sure were ever going to bind then turned into massive big willow sculptures; my heron was taller than me!
Kate had some helpers which was neccessary as this craft is fairly intensive and tricky at first but it clicks and if not Kate is amazing at rescuing your work and getting you back on track again.
I have and would recommend Kates workshops to others. A great value day where you'll end up with something amazing and unique to take home.

Kathy Slattery - - #8423

Booked as a Christmas present for my sister - we both had a wonderful day and left with 2 lovely pheasants. Kate is a great tutor, giving good instruction and help as and when needed to get you (or rather our pheasants!) back on track. The day flew by and we left quite amazed at what we had created. I am now looking to return with a friend who wasn't able to come that day but was very impressed with the results. In leaving we missed saying goodbye to the others on the course, sorry - we really enjoyed your company too!

Rebecca - - #8213

A crafty Christmas present, I'd never done any weaving of any discription prior to the day. I was stunned at what we achieved in a day as a complete novice. Kate gave great support during the day and creates a really relaxed experience in her home. I went with two friends and there was another two lovely ladies on the course. The day went really fast but Kate was great at keeping us on track. Throughly enjoyed the day

Lesley - - #8084

I was lucky to have the session by myself so had Kate's full attention. I would have been just as spoilt in a group (with attention and food). I was so relaxed sitting there making my pheasant that time flew by. The surroundings, Kate's company and the pure enjoyment of working with the willow was a real treat I would love to do again.

Nicola - - #7517

Had a great day creating a willow sculpture with Kate. I had booked this course as a Christmas present for my Mum - we were both complete beginners and very pleasantly surprised at what we were able to achieve in just one day! Thanks to Kate's patience and guidance by the end of the day we had created a pair of herons. It was a lovely relaxing day, would highly recommend even if you are a complete novice!

Christina - - #7514

I had a wonderful day of willow weaving with Kate and three other lovely participants yesterday. I already have experience of basket weaving but have wanted to try animal sculpture for some time, so when I made a rather large heron yesterday I was absolutely thrilled. Kate was patient, calm and friendly. She provided a lovely environment and guided brilliantly. Thank you Kate. Really looking forward to returning a week Saturday for another creative day :-)

Steve and Helen Brompton - - #7477

I booked the day as a surprise 9th wedding anniversary present for my wife. I wouldn't describe either of us as 'crafty' in any way, so we were both a little nervous on the day.
Kate and her partner could not have been more welcoming or helpful.
We had a great day, great fun in a lovely house with copious amounts of food and drink.
Best of all we made our wedding anniversary gifts for each other (even though my attempt was, frankly, pathetic and had to rescuedby Kate).
So, we none crafters are looking at a return visit in the summer, a thoroughly memorable day and well worth a try.

Cathryn Gathercole - - #7400

By happy accident (for me) I was the only participant on the course so had extra special tuition from Kate throughout the day. She is very knowledgeable and creative, offering hands on support and advice to help me make a wonderful - if rather large - heron. As I had not worked with willow much beforehand I was uncertain as to what I would be able to achieve, but I was delighted with the end result!

Kate and Dave were very friendly and welcoming, with plenty of refreshments available during the day - although I didn't really want to stop! I have no hesitation in recommending this course to others.

Sue & Kev Hopkins - - #6114

We have never worked with willow before so it was an absolute new beginning for us both.
Kate was extremely welcoming and we decided to make a pair of herons. She is an incredible artist having seen some of her paintings and willow animals that she has made.
Quite a lot of the time we were in absolute silence with concentration, then laughed. What a brilliant day which went far to fast.
We had a very pleasant light lunch provided by Kate (prepared by Dave, thank you Dave) but we were just so keen to get back to the heron making. Before we knew it it was time to go.
This course has inspired us and we would recommend the course especially if you have never tackled this before. Kate as an excellent teacher and a very nice person.
Thank you so very much Kate.

Jessica - - #5656

I had the most wonderful time willow weaving! Kate is extremely helpful and friendly. I made a willow duck and have received many compliments for it! Kate was very flexible and would accommodate for the sculpture you were interested in making. There were plenty of teas and coffees and even some yummy cakes provided throughout the day. A lovely lunch was also provided and vegetarians were catered for. I would recommend anybody who's interested in willow weaving sculptures to give this a go! I thoroughly enjoyed my day outdoors willow weaving.
Thanks again Kate!

Anne Coules - - #5550

I have just spent a fantastic day with Kate, sat in her lovely garden learning how to make willow sculptures. Kate is an excellent teacher and showed us how to start the construction process and guided me so that I could achieve what I wanted. Kate and Dave ( and Borris and Bertie) were wonderful hosts keeping us supplied with tea and coffee and biscuits, even though we were concentrating so much we sometimes forgot to drink! We were also given a lovely lunch followed by cakes. I managed to make a running hare, which just about fitted in the boot and finished his ears and tail at home. There were three of us on the course and Kate helped us all to make a sculpture each, I would recommend this to anyone interested in trying this craft, you will be amazed at what Kate will help you create.

Geraldine Harris - - #5465

I had a brilliant day working with Kate making my willow donkey (Derek), the day was very relaxed and in a lovely setting. Kate is an incredibly talented artist , with a calm and supportive approach ,so I was able to understand the concept of proportion and depth ( not just a wonky donkey with stick legs!), it was probably a big expectation for a one day course on my part, but Kate talked me through the finishing touches and gave me the materials to carry on. A lovely lunch, tea, coffee and cakes were also provided throughout the day, thank you Dave. I would recommend anybody who's interested in willow weaving sculptures to enrol on the course and a big thank you to Kate for all your input and for being able to share the day with your wonderful animals.
