Paul and Pei (Singapore) reviewed: Beginners introductory pyrography course in Lincolnshire

"I signed up my wife and I for Susan's workshop as a surprise birthday activity for my wife. We had both never done any pyrography before (prior to the workshop), and I thought that it would be interesting to learn something new. We do not regret it the slightest: The workshop was very well-planned and informative, took place in a very cosy and relaxing environment (Susan's home-based studio), and it went at a very comfortable and manageable pace. Susan has structured her workshop in a way that by the end of the workshop, you would have had the opportunity to try out several pyrography techniques, and experimented with pyrography on both wood and leather. My wife and I both worked at different paces, and it was good to note that Susan's workshop was able to accommodate our different paces of learning extremely easily. My wife worked more quickly than me, for example, and Susan was happy to let her try out new skills and media. Both my wife and I are unable to draw anything decent to save our lives, and were initially concerned that we would not be able to benefit fully from the workshop. Surprisingly though, we managed pretty well! We focussed more on creating simple and complex patterns and symbols, and the results were really nice (we think so, anyway). Susan showed us several examples, though, of animals and natural objects drawn using pyrography techniques. Not a level that my wife and I can attain yet, I'm afraid! Susan was extremely patient and so willing to share her wealth of experience and knowledge, and we had a wonderful time at her workshop! We were unable to attend the workshop on the original dates (on the website), but Susan was accommodating enough to arrange a separate session for us to fit our schedule. Susan replied all our emails very quickly, and that was a very big plus for us: it made communication and arrangements a lot smoother. My wife and I live in London and do not drive, but instead came up to Lincoln by train. Susan's workshop starts in the morning and takes up a full day, and so what my wife and I did was to take the train to Lincoln one day before (and enjoyed exploring the city centre), and put up at a local B&B for a night (we stayed at the Loudor B&B opposite the Forum). Susan's workshop area is actually closer to North Hykeham station, but we felt there would be more to do in Lincoln. This is a matter of preference though. Either way, there are a number of buses (that also thankfully run regularly) that will take you to Susan's workshop location. All in all, this has been a great workshop to attend, and we had a lovely time spending the day with Susan. We would highly recommend this workshop to anyone who are keen to learn pyrography, or simply to dabble in something new."

Nina Simmons reviewed: Cold porcelain flowers for beginners

"I returned to Jill's studio after completing the one day sugarcraft course but this time for two days. on this occasion i wanted to create a poinsettia display for my Christmas cake and I must say, what was achieved in two days surpassed my expectations. For me, (and as a novice), working with cold porcelain allowed me to be more creative and I found it more easier to handle than sugar paste. I will booking onto a third course in 2018 as I have found the experience incredibly relaxing, fun and I must say, incredibly enjoyable, thank you Jill."

Nina Simmons reviewed: Sugar flower making day with award winning artisan sugar artist

"Wow, what can I say, Jilly, thank you so much for a fabulous day. From the start I was convinced I could not produce anything that could look like a flower. I normally have little patience, but with your exceptional patience and step by step guidance what we all achieved as new beginners was amazing and I would recommend this beginners course to anyone."

Kim Blease reviewed: 121 - An Introduction to Cold Process Soap Making

"I completed the advanced soap making and legislation course with Emma on the 1st April 17. Emma is a very approachable and friendly person who put me at ease immediately. The course was excellent, it was well organised and the supporting information was comprehensive and detailed. Emma is clearly very knowledgeable about the subject and only too willing to share this knowledge. The manner in which she delivered the course was at an appropriate level and she was only too happy to answer questions and queries both on the day and also for months afterwards."

Jennifer Lewis reviewed: Hand spinning for Beginners Level 1 accredited course at All in a Spin

"As a complete beginner I found this course excellent. Dunja took us through the whole process from understanding the different fleeces, preparing the fleece as well as carding, spinning and plying. Spinning is a challenge but with the good grounding provided and practice I am sure I will soon be spinning a well balanced skein!"

Toby Jeffries reviewed: Furniture making course: Traditional Dovetailing - 4 day course in Surrey

"I am currently training to become a furniture maker and just graduated from university. I have also completed Aidan's fundamentals part 1 course which I recommend you do. This course was the perfect stepping stone for me to boost my career and enable me to build a porfolio up. The course was well layed out over the 4 days with some time during the week (between the 2 weekends) to practice some joints in my own time, which really helped the constancy and repeatability of my joints. Aidan is very knowledgeable in all areas of dovetails giving his option of ways of completing a task and why he teaches it he says he does. Aidan also touches on other relevant tasks surrounding the the joint such as sharpening and buying tools which is also a big help. I would recommend this course to anyone who is very interested in furniture making whether they are starting out like me or want to learn something new. I think the best place to train in the south. Thanks very much"

Simon Bellamy reviewed: ** SPECIAL OFFER ** 10% off - Bladesmithing Experience Day - Wiltshire

"I have always wanted to have a go at bladesmithing, like many especially after watching forged in fire recently and was lucky enough to get myself on this course last week. Well, not as easy as it looks! but had an absolutely brilliant time, Graham was extremely knowledgeable about the craft and explained all the stages from start to finish, I tend to ask a lot of questions with everything I do and Graham was more then happy to answer with demonstrations. The course was at a nice steady pace which gave me the opportunity to watch listen and and put in to practice what I was being shown. Not once was I told I hadn’t done something correctly but was shown how to correct and move the metal which gave a lot of confidence. Great lunch provided in a really nice location and endless coffee on what was a frosty morning ?. On top of this I actually managed to creat a knife to take home that I am extremely proud of. I really can highly recommend this course to anyone that wants to have a crack at making a knife and learn some of the skills required to bladesmith. Will definitely be booking in again !"

Lucy Kuzara reviewed: Blacksmithing taster course one day

"Wow! What a great day I had at the Bluefoot Forge! As a complete novice this first experience of forging was better than I could ever imagine. A fantastic day with Pete at his lovely forge where together with the other participants I watched Pete as he was transforming a simple piece of metal into something wonderful. I couldn't wait to get started so I could try and do the same. With Pete's guidance and help I was able to make my own pieces - a lovely leaf and a perky snail! I really enjoyed the session , I have learnt a lot and I hope to return for a longer course sometime soon. Pete's wife Heather was a wonderful host too. She made us feel so welcome in her home and treated us with some delicious home made lunch, teas and coffees. Thank you very much!!! Lucy :)"
