About the Course
“Be inspired and get creative with clay… Giant seed pods, twisted teapots, big boxes and bowls, whatever you want to make, I’ll guide you. Have fun and learn pottery in a welcoming and supportive environment. Everyone is creative and anyone can learn pottery!”
In the pottery classes, I aim to build confidence, encourage experimentation and create a space that is welcoming and inspiring. Anyone can attend the pottery classes, they are suitable for all abilities.
In the weekly classes beginners can follow a structured course, taking you through the various hand-building techniques and glazing. Worksheets are given at each stage.
If you’ve done pottery before, or if you prefer, you’re free to work on your own ideas and develop your skills further. I also run extra workshops in class time that are fun, inspirational and a bit quirky and I like to find opportunities in the local area for community projects that the pottery class can participate in.
All the materials that you need are provided and are inclusive in the price of the pottery class (which you can pay weekly @ £25 per session or termly @ £20 per session). You’ll have the opportunity to use different types of clay (including stoneware, porcelain, paper clay and craft crank) and there are more than 40 brush on glazes to choose from, over 30 under-glazes, oxides and coloured slips if preferred.
Join one of the pottery classes and as well meeting new people whilst getting creative you’ll benefit from…

“When people start my pottery classes, they often begin by saying that they’re not creative and not very good and making things. With my help and support they soon realise that they are creative and they can make something… their sense of achievement is incredible.”
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The studio is well equipped with all the tools you'll need. All materials (clays and glazes) are included in the price. Importantly an array of teas, coffees and biscuits are also provided!
I love Rachel's pottery classes. The group is lively and fun and very supportive, and I would love to do it every day if I had the time. Even though I am a real novice to the Art she never makes me feel I have nothing to contribute and I have been very pleased with the pieces I have produced. I look forward to learning more and hopefully getting more proficient!

Response from Rachel Fooks Ceramics:Thank Jane... you are already very proficient! Looking forward to the new term.
This is the best day of my week, - getting together with friends and being creative. Rachel is always on hand to help and encourage to get better week by week.
Barbara Wells - - #24133
Response from Rachel Fooks Ceramics:Thank you Barbara. The classes are my best days of the week too!
Just sign up for this course. Nothing beats the magic of making pots and ceramic sculptures in Rachel Fooks' classes.
Rachel is a gifted teacher and inspires great creativity.
Sometimes form leads to function. There is nothing more pleasurable than drinking tea from jugs, teapots, cups and mugs you have made yourself.
Sometimes form leads to sculptural aesthetics. I have a number of pots on the bookshelf and in the garden that I just enjoy looking at.
Rachel’s workshop is a lovely light space where you work in an artists community surrounded by inspiration and considerable talent.
Dear reader you’ve read too much...sign up for the course!

Response from Rachel Fooks Ceramics:Thank you so much for the lovely review. The pottery that you have made during class is amazing, and it's made me very happy seeing your creativity and confidence in your skills grow.
I joined this pottery class last year and have loved every minute of it. In fact, I get withdrawal symptoms when the classes aren't on. I've made some wonderful pieces with Rachel's help, she is a brilliant teacher and we all have so much fun. Thoroughly recommend.
