About the Course
In this beginners embroidery workshop I will teach you five decorative and versatile embroidery stitches, fundamental to mastering the art of hand embroidery. If you have even a basic knowledge of stitch and want to develop your skill, then this workshop is for you!
With support and practice, you will add each stitch to your own sampler for future reference, and once mastered you will use these fabulous stitches to create a modern piece of embroidered art. I will guide you every step of the way, so that you will leave the workshop feeling confident with a beautifully hand crafted item, a sampler, step by step instructions, memories of a lovely day and the skills to make many more unique and gorgeous pieces of your own.
The workshop is run by me Hannah Wiles, I am a qualified teacher with a first class honours degree in Embroidery and a Masters degree in Textiles. I have had exhibitions in Manchester, London and Liverpool and have worked with the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
I am passionate about stitch and truly believe it is a timeless yet contemporary art form and I am looking forward to helping you develop this skill in my workshops.
‘This sewing class was so much fun! The atmosphere was really relaxed and informal, with plenty of brews and biscuits. Hannah was also lovely and explained the stitches really clearly. She was sat with us the whole time which was great for any questions too…’ Carla Oldroyd

I had a wonderful time at the Tread Softly sewing workshop. I had some experience of doing cross stitch before the class but I had never done anything outside of that. I wasn't expecting to learn as much as I did and I'm delighted to say that I now know how to do lots of different types of stitches and I got a beautiful felt hanging at the end of it too... made by my own fair hands!
Hannah is patient and very good at explaining things which definitely helped with the more complicated stitches.
Overall, it was a delightful morning, I learnt new skills, had lots of giggles and came away from it with a lovely bear felt hanging. I would highly recommend and I can't wait to book onto more of the workshops in the New Year!

I booked on Hannah's embroidery course with my mum on Mother's Day and we both had such a lovely and relaxing afternoon.
Hannah is a fountain of knowledge for anything arts and craftsy. I absolutely love her designs as they are original and unique. Hannah is so patient and the small group size meant that no one in the group got left behind. From not knowing anything about embroidery or sewing in general, I'm now confident with a range of stitches that I can use at home. I can't recommend it enough. I will definitely be back!
