About the Course
This Macramé workshop will introduce you to the versatility and fascination of this ancient craft of knotting cords into intricate designs - using one's fingers. For complete beginners or for those wishing to refresh their knowledge and skill, it can be tailored to your own project interests or previous experience.
I provide tuition in a relaxed, informal setting at times and dates to best suit you. Numbers are limited to ensure maximum attention. For 2-3 persons the workshop is £35 per person or £45 for individual tuition.
Making a small wall-hanging sampler, you will:
- Learn the basic knots and how to follow a pattern
- Practise tips and techniques to create your own designs
- Obtain ideas for your own projects to make at home from a variety of ready-made items on display and a range of pattern books to browse through.
Macrame, enjoying a popular revival, is easy to learn with simple techniques and minimal equipment. Work progresses quickly and items with intricate designs are limitless including fashion accessories, jewellery, home decor, baskets, 3-D animal art and festive decorations. Macramé designs are also becoming widespread in Mixed Media creations.
As a qualified tutor I ran a number of Macramé courses in it's former hey-day of the late 1970's and 80's and have continued to be involved in various knotting projects during the years since. Nowadays with such an exciting range of cords available, the art of Macramé is enjoying it's revival.

Myself and my two teenage daughters completed this workshop with Mary yesterday. Mary was a good teacher, and generously provided us with tea and biscuits. She gave us 1:1 support and all three of us were very pleased with the little wall hangings we made and brought home. My daughters have instructed me to buy macramé materials so they can make more, which will hopefully get them off their phones and ipads. Thank you Mary.

Mary is fantastic. Her knowledge of macrame is 2nd to none.
I had never tried macrame before and had no idea what to expect, I bought the course as a present for my mum and we both attended. We have started getting crafty so this sounded perfect.
It was a lovely relaxed afternoon, and Mary was so patient with us.
I learnt a lot and found it easy, because of Mary’s instruction. We both had a lovely sampler to take home and have since created wall hangings and plant holders.
It was a lovely afternoon, we both learnt a new skill and Mary provided the most yummy biscuits.
I would advise anybody to give it a go.

I spent the morning with Mary today and it was wonderful. I was made to feel very at home and relaxed. The wall hanging I made and brought home made me very proud having never attempted anything like this before.
I now have the macrame bug and hope to attend a workshop by Mary soon.
Thank you Mary.

Went to Marys home today with a little knotting skills ans after a very plesaent time came away with a wall hanging and a lot better understanding of the knots and how to read macrame patterns. We have bought some cord from Mary and we are planning to go again for her monthly drop in sessions

I had a lovely experience learning Macrame with Mary. I travelled down from Derby with my boyfriend and Mary made us feel so welcome. I learn't a lot and have started making my own jewellery straight away. Mary is kind and patient and really knows her stuff! She had also taken the time to pick out jewellery ideas and suggestions from books she already had and gave me great advice on where I can buy the supplies I need. Would certainly go back again to learn more with Mary.

My daughter and I spent a lovely afternoon with Mary, learning how to knot a sampler. Mary is clearly very experienced in her chosen craft and an excellent tutor. She was especially supportive and patient with my daughter who often struggles to learn new crafts due to being left-handed. At the end of the session, we were both amazed at what we had managed to produce. I highly recommend this course.

I have just completed a superb course delivered by Mary Davies focusing on Macrame.
Mary is a delight to work with and clearly has a huge depth of knowledge that she delivers with skill and enthusiasm.
I would certainly highly recommend this course and look forward to working with Mary again in the next few weeks.
