Debbie Scarth reviewed: Regular ceramic & glazing tuition and pottery wheel workshops Shetland

"I brought my 12 year old daughter and her friend to the workshop as a school holiday activity. They are both pottery novices but you would never guess that from the pieces they produced, which are really impressive. We could not be more delighted. Sonje carefully explained processes, techniques and finishes to them. She encouraged them to develop their initial ideas and created an environment where they both felt excited to try out, correct mistakes and go again. We did not leave before booking our next workshop. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Sonje's workshops. Huge thank you for a great afternoon - looking forward to seeing you again soon! Debbie, Abi & Becca"

Werxzovart responded:

"Thanks Debbie, I was so impressed that both girls were totally focused on their work and producing some beautiful and colourful pottery pieces! And considering they had never done pottery before either! Look forward to having them back for glazing so thank you for making another booking. See you all soon again."

Simon Aston reviewed: Green Wood Creative Seating - 6 Day Course in South Devon

"This was the second course I have booked with Peter and once again thoroughly enjoyed it. The tuition from Peter is excellent and the location simply stunning. Everybody came with different design ideas and Peter encouraged every one of them. I came away with a garden bench that I'm really proud of. There really is something quite special in making something from scratch with your own hands !"

"I was delighted when I came across Sonje’s course in beautiful Howarth. Had been wanting to learn how to make pottery spoons for some time and Sonje was so knowledgeable, skilled and enthusiastic and totally got what it was I was trying to achieve. In a relaxed calming environment I was able to let my creativity flow and ended up with a handful of spoons that I love. Thank you Sonje-I will be back x"

Werxzovart responded:

"It was great to meet you Jac and help you make your spoons. Wish I had taken a picture of them as they were beautiful! Thanks for the lovely review and I look forward to having you back when your time allows."

Kate Readman reviewed: Fabulous felt picture 2 day masterclass near York

"Very much enjoyed the course, venue was good and there was a very good supply of quality materials. Possibly may be helpful to show all the group the techniques that were discussed individually as some of the tips may not have been relevant to the particular piece we were working on but would be useful in the future."

May 2018 Attendee reviewed: Mosaic and Glass Art 2-day Course

"Had a very special time on the beginners mosaic course at Maggie’s beautiful home and workshop in the countryside. A chance to completely switch off in lovely surroundings and allow my hidden creativity to come out! Maggie’s excellent guidance was inspiring and she is great fun to work with, her enthusiasm for her work is infectious. Came away from the course feeling refreshed, with new things to think about and a mosaic I am proud of. Highly recommend this course, which I feel is very reasonably priced for what it provides. Thanks Maggie!"

Rhian Fletcher reviewed: Crochet course "Complete beginners"

"Gaëlle is a fantastic crochet tutor! I’d wanted to learn for years and had tried books and video tutorials to no avail. After the beginner course of 3 sessions I was able to read a simple pattern and started a granny square blanket. Gaëlle is a patient and encouraging tutor and she provided clear and relevant handouts to support the lessons. I would not hesitate to recommend the course."

Derek reviewed: Wood turning courses

"What did I expect? What did I get? My experience of woodturning is from club and show demonstrations and I am otherwise mainly self-taught. I expected to get hands on professional tuition in a good workshop from this course. On arrival I received a fabulous, warm welcome from George, but probably more importantly from “the Boss”, Sue. She looked after us with refreshments and kindness which was matched by George’s professional approach to woodturning. The first day was spent on safety, tool sharpening techniques of tool use and bowl completed. What a lot I learnt! The second day commenced with putting into practise what I had learnt from the first day’s tuition but the bulk of the time involved textures; how they are created and combined with finishes. This included not only proprietary brands but also George’s techniques for colouring and decoration. I came away with two of my creations, but more importantly, to me, a sense of achievement and plenty of inspiration for future projects. We had plenty of “banter” in a totally relaxed atmosphere but this did not detract from the intense learning situation. The course had totally lived up to my expectations. Thanks, George (and Sue) for looking after an “old codger”!"

Sue Fell reviewed: Mosaic class

"We attended the one day mosaic course whilst staying at Dawn's B & B. We loved every minute and I loved learning a new skill. Dawn was a very attentive teacher, encouraging and very knowledgeable on mosaics. The day was very relaxed and Dawn made homemade quiche for lunch and her fantastic homemade scones and cake were offered throughout the day. Dawn has instilled the confidence in me to continue making mosaics. This was a wonderful course in all ways and I highly recommend it"

Kate reviewed: 2 Day Silver Jewellery Making Course - Ely

"Brilliant. Jonathan provides a relaxed, informal atmosphere which put us all at ease. The teaching materials and discussions created a detailed course with enough info to get you started as a hobbyist or indeed to start up small scale production. The course was well structured and thorough, yet felt like spending a couple of days relaxing and having fun. The food was delicious, and thoughtful touches like homemade biscuits point to the care taken. I enjoyed it so much I'm signing up for the stone setting course...."

Dave Allport reviewed: Green wood stool making weekend

"What can I add to the reviews already submitted. I had a fabulous weekend living and working in the woods on my stool project. George and his lovely family made us most welcome showing genuine interest in our progress over the weekend. With Dave giving us an interesting insight to woodland management. The wholesome food served was most welcome and delicious. The night in the yurt was quite an experience, basic but, being used to the camping life, wasn't a problem. I was however on the course with a female and we both agreed it wasn't a problem for us to share the yurt. George did have a bell tent on standby so all situations were covered if there was an objection. I would really recommend these weekends to get back to nature and meet likeminded people and learn new woodwork skills. I will be looking out for future courses. Thanks for the enjoyable experience."

Fiona reviewed: Photography Days

"Just got back from a thoroughly enjoyable day with Richard and Sue, armed with lots of useful tips on how to get the most out my mid-range camera. They directed the tuition to suit both my own and my friends abilities and gave us lots of useful tips on purchasing equipment. Furthermore they Kindly let me use their camera equipment, including different lenses and filters, which enabled me to see the difference in photos that one can achieve by moving to the next level. Both of them were enthusiastic and listened to what I wanted to learn, in addition to guiding me in the right direction on all aspects of photography. Whatever level your at, I would certainly recommend this course as they definitely tailor the day to suit you and your needs. Great value for money!"

Wayne Clark reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"A brilliant day spent with a great teacher. Mort has a the ability to allow you to work on, but step in at just the right moment. My wife and I had the opportunity to to make the items we wanted with guidance and advice on the best way to do it. I'd recommend Mort and his courses to any one. You don't need to have any previous skills or knowledge to get the most from the course. If you do have some previous experience the Mort is the man to stretch those skills further."

Emma Green reviewed: One day silver jewellery designing and making workshop

"What a fabulous Silver Jewellery Workshop. I can strongly recommend Bridget's day course. Before the course took place Bridget asked me to think about what I would like to achieve and think about the item/s of Jewellery that I would like to make, which was amazing as it gives you ultimate freedom and creativity - plus plenty of time to make sketches (even though mine were pretty bad). So when I turned up for the day we had a great starting point. Bridget has an amazing knowledge of her craft and is a very welcoming and lovely person. I immediately felt at ease and it was super interesting to learn about all of the different processes that go into jewellery making. I initially started using tools and techniques on copper to get to grips with the saw and hammers and then we worked on my designs to then transpose on to Sterling Silver. I came away with a great understanding and appreciation in the craft and felt that my teacher was a amazing fountain of knowledge. I would love to go again and try to evolve my designs. Thank you Bridget!"

"A really rewarding way to spend a day - not only do you learn the practicalities of the craft but also plenty about the history and culture of blacksmithing. Mort's tuition is very well balanced - letting you get on with your chosen piece for long periods and then stepping in when more assistance is needed."

Sue Williams reviewed: Raku, Saggar, Barrel, Copper Matte & Horsehair Firing Weekend Workshops 2025

"Hi Abi and Alison Just to thank you both for such an informative and wonderful course at the weekend. It was just so nice to get away and meet like minded people since being a potter can be a lonely profession. I came away on a high determined to get back in the studio again but of course that will have to wait until after I get back from my holiday and with this weather it can't come soon enough! Good luck with the next course. Sue x"

Jeanie Ciskowski reviewed: Shoemaking Workshop

"I had a wonderful time at the one-day course at Green Shoes. I love my shoes, they are beautiful and comfortable. I will cherish them always and remember the fun day of bonding with a interesting and creative group of people. I was expecting and hoping to receive more information on shoe-making in general, but it was more of an employee-for-a-day experience. I was told what to do and received all the help I needed, but I didn't learn more general information about materials and glues and techniques. There was a lot to do for all of us to get through the work in one day! Also, I expected to leave with my shoes that day, but the final sole and finishing was to be done by the shop, and I had to pick them up on Monday. Luckily I could alter my plans and return on my way back to London before flying back to the US on Tuesday."

Annabel Allen reviewed: Beginners sewing and quilting at Spools and Scissors Suffolk

"I had a fantastic time learning how to make a quilted and lined bag from scratch- it even had padded straps and a proper bottom for it to sit on. We learnt many techniques which will be so useful in terms of building on this experience to make other items. Tracey was very patient and explained things well. It is a small class so absolutely ideal. She also makes delicious cakes and her two dogs are lovely. Book a class today!"

Spools & Scissors responded:

"Thank you so much Annabel for such a lovely review. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you and the bag you made was truly amazing! Thank you for booking with Spools & Scissors"
