Just finished a weekend workshop at a Pretty Rubbish Mosiacs, my first attempt at mosaic and I enjoyed every single minute. Maggie is an excellent teacher and great host. Her workshop is inspiring and full of amazing treasures. Am looking forward to returning and trying a more challenging piece.

Maggie Patience is an inspiration!!! I have been a friend of hers for some years, and although I have never attended a workshop, I have been with her during one and seen how much enjoyment her pupils get, and what lovely work they produce. her own work on display is brilliant. I don't know where she gets her ideas from. What an imagination ! I have no artistic flair, but with her guidance and help have produced some very pretty work. Her garden is a wonderland.
Margaret Ward - - #12946
Maggie has been a regular guest tutor at Braemar Creative Arts Festival for several years. Her workshops always sell out very quickly, such is her well deserved reputation. The feed back we get from the people who take the class is always excellent. She is an artist in the purist sense of the word and is inspirational in her teaching, passing on her passion to her students of all ages from teens to eighties.

I booked a weekend course as a birthday present for my mum and was talked into coming along too. So glad I did! I'm pretty much devoid of artistic talent and had never tried anything like this before but had a really great time and was pleased with my finished mosaic. Very relaxed, friendly and great fun. I'd highly recommend trying it out, even for those not particularly crafty or confident, Maggie is very welcoming and has infectious enthusiasm. She can clearly accomdate a wide variety of clients and skill sets. We've already booked our next course!

What a fantastic couple of days at Pretty Rubbish Mosaics with Maggie. She took us through all the stages from tool, materials, design and grouting and we left with three finished pieces and the confidence to carry on at home. Amazing what can be produced from broken cups and plates. A beautiful, peaceful setting and lovely garden showing off Maggie's creations. Hopefully get back soon to do another workshop in glass work.

Response from Pretty Rubbish Mosaics:Shona, thank you so much for your kind words. Your pieces were fantastic and you really do have nimble fingers .What a pleasure and a privilege to work with you and learn about the fantastic work you do for FORGET ME NOT in Banchory. I really hope that the skills you have learned will enable you to enrich the lives of your clients even more.. and you can let them listen to some nice music!
I loved this mosaic making course. I booked this for my partner and myself and although he wasn't too keen on the idea he thoroughly enjoyed it! Maggie is a great teacher and is full of useful information but makes the course really enjoyable with her easy to follow instruction and fun personality. I will be back!

I have just attended a 2 day course with Maggie and had a wonderful time. Maggie is an excellent teacher, extremely passionate and full of ideas and I am now definately hooked and she has given me the confidence to make more mosaics on my own. Thank you Maggie for a lovely 2 days and I can't wait to return again next year.

I had a great experience at Maggie's recently and, although I don't think I'm artistic, I surprised myself. Maggie is so enthusiastic and encouraging so I felt able to experiment with different pieces and styles. I totally went for it and really enjoyed myself. A tour of Maggie's wonderful garden has me thinking already about my next project. A great workshop which I would thoroughly recommend.

My Friend and I took our children (aged 7-11, boys and girls ) out to the children's workshop that Margaret runs, to be honest I was not sure what to expect but it really was THE most amazing day. From the minute you arrive you're swept along on a wave of creativity, from looking around the truly fabulous garden (esp the amazing bottle waterfall!) to getting into the studio and seeing the brilliant array of materials and endless creative possibilities it really was mind blowing and engaging - Margaret was lovely and very helpful with subtle tweaks and suggestions which was lovely, and gave the children total expressive freedom- honestly one of the best things I've ever done with the kids- and my friend and i are planning an adults day very soon! ❤️

My friend and I took our children and a couple of their friends to one of the workshops and had the most fantastic day. Margaret's garden is inspirational and all the children let their creative juices flow, even the boys!!! Their pieces were really beautiful and the children were so happy!
Margaret is just wonderful, engaging and most informative. And was there to offer suggestions if required. I cannot recommend this course and Margaret's work enough! Thank you!

As Director of the Braemar Creative Arts Festival I can confirm that every review I have read from the participants of Maggie's festival classes over the last 3 years has been 5 star. Several of the people consequently signed up for more of Maggie's Magic workshops at her studio. We invite her back to our Festival every year as we know her classes will quickly be fully subscribed...she is truly inspirational.

I have been to a number of sessions in Maggie's studio and also to all three Braemar Creative Arts Festival Mosaic courses which she attends in support of this community based arts venue.
What a gem Maggie is - kind, patient, technically spot on, creatively inspiring of others, exuberant in nature, genuinely caring about her students welfare, and completely in awe of our efforts & the results no matter how odd some of mine have turned out to be :D
You may enter a complete novice not knowing one end of a tweezer from the end of a glass cutter, or a Leponitt from a Smalti. When you leave with your first pieces completed you will also take along the self-confidence with a range of manual skills & 'tool familiarity' to tackle anything she throws at you at your next session, and you will truly believe in your own abilities.
A BIG part of Maggie's ethos is to use discarded bits and pieces from local charity shops, friends cast-off & broken household 'junque', and her very own "Rubbish Fairy" who is part of the grass-roots recycling movement.
OldTown Steading's garden is a showcase of mosaic-ed artworks created from literal rubbish and it is incredibly inspiring to view regardless of the season. It is 2 acres and utterly delightful Madness, Mayhem and Magic. Green Recycling box WELL ticked and who would have thought such beauty rise from the ashes of rubbish ???
She has taught me so much technically about mosaic-ing, and even given me the self confidence set up a small studio space of my own in a spare sheddy, but part of the fun and experience is in being with other like-minded people under Maggie's caring and attentive eye. And she puts on a lovely lunch for us too :) Who could ask for more???

I attended ancouple of courses that Maggie ran and loved them! The only reason I could not follow up with more was that we moved away. Maggie has so much enthusiasm and is a brilliant and inspiring tutor! She has a wealth of materials and gives 100% to ensure everybody achieves. Maggie inspired me and gave me the love for mosaicing, which I now continue here in France. Thank you Maggie! Don't hesitate to sign up for her courses!
Linda Whyman - - #9727
I have done this course twice now and have loved doing it. Maggie brings out your creativity with her boundless enthusiasm. I recommend this course for all those that want to fulfil their artistic ambitions via mosaic.
If you are stuck for ideas or ways to make your ideas reality, rememer this mantra - trust Maggie.
Graham - - #9726
Maggie's workshop really is fabulous. No experience or ability in art required because Maggie's enthusiasm is contagious and encouragement, inspiring. Suitable for all ages too. I'm definitely going back for more :-)

Had a great time creating a beautiful mosiac piece. Maggie is on hand to offer guidance & suggestions to ensure you are happy with your finished product. We enjoyed it so much, we've been back to do a second class. Maggie is a wonderful tutor.

I attended a two day workshop last October and since then can't stay away! I have since completed many pieces with Maggie's inspiration and support including a slate house sign, kitchen splash back and a glass on glass picture.
She's full of ideas and has an amazing selection of materials to play with. Her enthusiasm is infectious and I thoroughly recommend this course.
Maria Spinardi - - #9718
I did the two day workshop and loved it! The workshop is an alladins cave of fabulousness, all of which can be used to make amazing crazy pieces. Maggie is a talented and inspirational lady!

So I have never been a student, but I cannot say enough about how much I look forward to the post by Margaret. She is an inspiration beyond any description. An amazing talent, totally out of the box talent. An amazing lady, wish I lived closer, I would love to just have a few minutes to walk through her yard.
