Photography days with Richard and Sue - A chance to try something new!
Weather permitting we like to include an outdoor session. We can also show how you can set up a simple studio using household items! We’ll talk about composition and lighting. Things you learn in this session may be helpful if you need to photograph products for eBay or your own website.
This will be followed by help in editing these shots. Throughout your day with us we will be aiming to make this course fun and relevant to your needs and you will also be given Course Notes; a useful reminder of the things you have been doing with your camera in Manual modes.
Before the course date comes around we’ll be finding out what equipment you will be able to bring and aiming to provide things you may not already have for the day. We’ll want to know about the sort of photographs you have been taking and find out what sort you would like to take.
The day in brief:
On arrival, you can sit down with a cuppa, show us your camera and we can discuss its features. You will have Course Notes to refer to and we’ll talk a little bit about the theory of getting that special shot, pointing out the relevant settings on your particular camera (or one we may have lent you).
We will cover ISO, shutter speed, depth of field and focal length - all will be explained! The use and value of a tripod will come into this session, but don’t worry if you don’t have one of your own yet.
The location we choose will enable practice with camera settings, tripod, choosing the viewpoint, composing the shot. The taking of panoramic views can be achieved as can the study of a flowing stream to achieve those silky, smooth water shots.
Back at base, you will be eager to download the morning shots to your laptop (or ours if you can’t bring one). We’ll help you chose your best shot and give you advice on how to make the most of it through computer editing.
What's included in the price?
Up to 7 hours of tuition with a maximum of 4 students. Transport available from the Workshop to a Lake District location. Use of our equipment if required.
Students bring their own packed lunch but we will provide tea, coffee and mineral water throughout the day. Transport options are flexible - dependent on numbers.
Would throroughly recommend Richard and Sue after having spent the most wonderful day with them. Having some experience with photography they tailored the day to suit me, resulting in my learning a whole new range of skills. Richard and Sue are so welcoming and make you feel relaxed and confident with your camera, and they can take you to some of the most stunning locations in the world. I would urge any photographer, whether you have just caught the bug, or have already plunged into the world of 'manual' to have a day with them, it's surprising how much you can learn! I cannot praise them both enough for the day, it was truly fantastic!
I highly recommend this course to anybody. Right from the first meeting, Richard and Sue made me feel completely at ease with them. They are both very knowledgeable and passionate about photography, and are genuinely interested in helping other people get the best out of their cameras and photography. Richard and Sue explain things in a way that is easy to understand, and give you plenty of time and guidance to take plenty of photographs and then review and change them in Lightroom. They also gave me lots of advice on equipment I may need. I feel much more confident using my camera now and playing around with different settings. As others have said, you will not regret going on this course if you are keen on photography!
I've just spent the day with Sue and Richard on one of their photography courses in the lovely Ullswater area of the Lake District. They had 'tailor made' the course to my needs, listening to my ideas and what I wanted to get out of the day.
I didn't have any of my own equipment so I was able to experiment with theirs, and then had excellent guidance on purchasing what I needed. This I have now done! So my new second-hand DSLR Cannon camera and len will be arriving shortly, so it is very exciting. Sue and Richard love what they do and this comes over it they way they teach. Great value for money. Try it!
A one day course arranged for my 13 year old Granddaughter, Poppy. I was invited to participate on the day. Poppy wanted to learn how to get the most from the DSLR given to her at Christmas. I was impressed by Richard and Sue`s patient approach demonstrating the basic functions of the camera and explaining, in simple terms, the basic principles of photography. An outdoor session on the shores of Ullswater proved very useful. After lunch the afternoon was taken up with indoor and flash photography, experimenting with aperture settings and shutter speeds. To hold the attention of a young teenager (as well as my own) for a full day of sometimes complex detail shows the level of skill used by Richard and Sue. I thoroughly recommend these courses.
I can't speak highly enough of Sue and Richard and this wonderfully informative course. Having received my new digital camera I was too scared and clueless to even attempt to use it! However, following a perfectly constructed day I am now shooting away at a moments notice. A relaxed and friendly environment, clearly knowledgeable tutors who tailor the course around your individual needs and requests, and a wonderful studio and lakeside setting. Great fun and excellent value for money. Highly recommended!
Having been overwhelmed by the apparent complexity of some of the settings on my digital SLR I had developed the habit of taking refuge in the "intelligent auto" setting. However, after an excellent day with Richard and Sue I now have the background knowledge and the courage to experiment. Photography suddenly looks a lot more fun. The tuition was patient and thorough and was thoughtfully divided between a morning on the shores of Ullswater and an afternoon in the studio looking at macro work. Technophobe or geek, there is plenty in this day for all. Make a booking or put the day on your Christmas list.
I have just come back from my course with Richard and Sue and I can honestly say I thoroughly loved it. I was lucky enough to be the only one there today and that was a complete benefit to me. We didn't have the best weather but the photos looked great by the time we were through, and I honestly think they liked them. They are patient and encourage you to do things yourself and try out every option. If they work or not, you learn either way! I have had my camera for years but never got further that the intelligent automatic setting, from now on that will the case. Thank you very much Richard and Sue for your course today, will heartily recommend you to anyone who will listen!
Just had to let you know that less than 12 months after taking a course with Richard & Sue that I have had images published on the national carriage driving association website homepage and also ITV weather. If you have an interest in photography and would really like to know what you can do with your camera then this is the course for you
I had a very good day with Sue and Richard and learnt a lot. They gave me a lot of very good information to help take better photos. They listen to what you want them help you from there. I would recommend any one to go on a course with Sue and Richard well worth the money.
Highly recommended. I have now done 2 days with Richard and Sue and intend to carry on learning from them in the future. Both my days filled me with inspiration and the photography bug has really caught me. Richard and Sue are very easy to learn from and explain things in a manner that is easy to understand. From only having used a point and shoot, they filled me with confidence to enable me to go home and put into practice what we had covered on the first day and now I am using a DSLR and never use auto settings. I have also been given excellent guidance on selecting the right equipment. Try it - you wont regret it
