Description

I love to inspire others to create beautiful pottery, so I offer a range of tuition workshops in my garden studio in Dorking, covering the basics of throwing, turning and decorating, also coiling, slab work and the use of glazes, oxides and lustres. Students can explore pottery at their own pace, follow their individual interests and create lasting objects which can complement your home or be gifted to a loved one. Please note that classes are for up to 2 people, so if you wish to have a 1;1 you will still be paying for two people. Please note that if you are throwing on the wheel and would like to finish the items yourself (turning, decorating) you will need to book another half day session when the pots have become leather hard.

Maker

My passion for pottery started in Cape Town, South Africa where I grew up surrounded by majestic mountains and wild oceans with its diverse scenery of coastlines, the veld, and wildlife. My mother was a potter and my dad an artist so my introduction to colours, shape and textures started at an early age, followed by a degree in art and then an MA in Ceramics. Now I live in the beautiful Surrey hills so am further inspired by the green rolling hills (Box Hill) and woods on my doorstep with bluebells and luminous rape seed fields in spring and many ferns to collect to imprint into clay. I love every process of pottery, whether its handbuilding or throwing on the wheel and enjoy sharing my knowledge I've built up over the past 30 + years with my students.
