About the Course
This course is suitable for complete beginners or students who may have done some pottery in the past. Students will be shown how to centre the clay, throw a few simple shapes such as bowls, mugs and jugs. You will also be show how to attach handles and use coloured clay slips to decorate your creations. The finished pots will be glazed and fired for you and will be available for you to pick up at a later date.
The workshop will run on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am until 5:00pm with a break for lunch (included in the price). There will be places for up to 4 students at £180 each which covers all materials and firing costs. Please be aware that full payment is required to guarantee your place on the course.
It is advisable to wear clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, however, some rather fetching plastic aprons will be provided. Please feel free to bring along your own apron if you prefer.

ABOUT THE TUTOR:
After graduating from the 3D Design course at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2005, I moved back to Wales to established a workshop on the family farm near Aberystwyth. I made wood-fired stoneware pots and made my own ash based glazes.
After working in the Peak District for many years, I moved in 2018 to my new studio in Sowerby Bridge (near Halifax), where I now make earthenware tiles based on medieval designs. I still make pots and once a year I take a selection of pots down to Wales to fire in the wood-firing kiln.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials, equipment and tools will be provided, along with light refreshments and snacks. Lunch is also provided for both days. Plastic disposable aprons will also be provided, however please feel free to bring your own apron - and wear suitable clothing (clay can be very messy!)
Lunch is provided by:
Saturday: The Willow Tree Cafe at Number 5, Sowerby Bridge

I had a really fun time and learnt that I could do something new. Deiniol is a supportive teacher who genuinely enjoys sharing his knowledge of making. If you have got this far in looking at a course -go for it and I am sure you will really pleased that you did.

A very talented potter with great knowledge and more importantly, patience. Having never attempted anything like this before I was a little apprehensive but was soon put at ease by Deiniols relaxed manner.
A very enjoyable weekend course with great company, good food and interesting conversation - never a dull moment!
Deiniol is an excellent teacher and encouraging at all times. I learned a lot about ceramics and the various processes and with his help I was able to produce a number of pieces of work which I am very much looking forward to taking home to show off to family and friends.
I can't recommend Deiniol and this course highly enough and would also recommend it if you are struggling to think of something interesting and different to buy as a gift.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
