Course Start DatesFriday 31st January 2020
About the Course
Sally Mareike's coil-building course is suitable for beginners or people who would like to refresh their skills. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to allow your natural (perhaps hidden) creativity to flow! Sally is an experienced hand-building potter and teacher of adults and children. (DBS checked)
During the course Sally will demonstrate some of the basics of coil-building techniques. Decorative techniques such as incising, impressing and applying motifs, as well as slip and oxide decorations will also be shown.
Using what you’ve learned, you will then be gently guided and supported to create your own beautiful pots using these techniques. You can expect to have a lot of fun, feel very calm when connecting with the clay. You might make one or possibly two pieces, such as mugs, vases, tealight holders, vessels, or bowls.
Once they are dry, a few weeks later, Sally will fire your work. You can choose a glaze that she can apply for you, or you could book and attend a glazing workshop and learn another interesting process. After glaze firing, Sally will let you know when your masterpiece(s) can be collected approximately 3- 5 weeks later. Your work can be posted for the appropriate postage and packaging fee.
If you can’t manage the dates advertised please do get in touch, as there may be dates available to suit your needs. Sally also runs birthday parties, family workshops and special events and content can be adjusted to fit the occasion.
