Hand built ceramics: Make your own jug and bowl

About the Course
Come and spend some time developing your ceramics skills in a relaxing, supportive environment. Workshops are open to all and being small groups only, are individually tailored to ability. All workshops are run by myself, I've taught art for over 25 years as well as creating my own work, and take place in my studio in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
A day spent learning hand building techniques so that you are able to roll out and build from slabs of clay.
You will make either a jug or vessel including imprinted surface decoration and sgrafitto drawing (scratching into the surface of the clay) and also a shallow slab or coil bowl which will further develop your surface decoration skills through printing, imprinting and use of body stains, coloured slips and underglazes.
Your work will be fired and ready for collection the following week.
Horton in Ribblesdale is on the Settle-Carlisle line so possible by public transport. The workshop is family friendly and my studio has wheelchair access, although easily accessible the toilet is up a gravel drive. Please state if mobility assistance will be needed.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
A light lunch (soup, sandwiches and cake) and unlimited tea and coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day.... creativity needs fuel!
All materials are provided, just bring an apron.
Learnt such a lot on this workshop and am so pleased with the jug, vase and bowl I made. It was really relaxed and easy going, I have hand built before so finished before some others so made an extra piece, all of our work was good and we got lots of individual help at the right level for us all. I've never used body stains or some of the decorating techniques before so that was an interesting way of working.
I'm happy to recommend, I'll be going back for more :)

Got the course as a birthday present, wasn't sure what to expect. Spent a great day with Penny and other potters in Horton. Everything was clearly explained and after a few disasters I got the hang of the processes. On opening the fired jug and pot by post, I was amazed at the glazes. Recommended.
