X

Description

This is a three week, one evening a week, course designed for the complete novice, new to sewing. This evening course is the same as the 6 week Garment Construction Techniques course but it has been broken down into four, three week evening sessions.

Starting at the very beginning of your sewing journey, this valuable course will cover all sewing machine basics, including how to thread the sewing machine, learning about the various stitches and their uses and general care and maintenance of the machine.

You will create a range of stitching samples to help boost your confidence with using a sewing machine, then move onto small projects to enhance your skills further. The projects include collars, waistbands, pockets and how to set in sleeves, with techniques for ladieswear and menswear being taught.

Part 4
This session is all about pockets!!

You will be shown how to construct a basic patch pocket and a patch pocket with a flap. Then we will move  on to In Seam pockets, a curved inset pocket and a curved inset pocket with a coin pocket, very popular on jeans!

And finally the welt pocket, the jetted pocket and the jetted pocket with flap.  These pockets are used mainly in tailoring and give a high end, professional finish to any garment.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

I absolutely loved this course. I started this course at the same time as the Pattern Cutting Sessions (Skirt / Bodice / Sleeve ) and it was instrumental in providing me with the confidence (and courage) to take this new found hobby further. Paula was welcoming and friendly, always with a coffee and a smile, waiting for you to arrive at her wonderful workshop/studio and Val was informative, helpful and nothing was too much trouble and if I got stuck, or couldn't work something out she was patient and understanding. I can recommend to anyone thinking about taking up sewing as a hobby (or wanting to make clothes) to do this course and it really is a good grounding in the basics of just about every sewing technique you will ever need.

I really enjoyed this course, and learnt loads of techniques to make garments in a friendly supportive environment. I recommend anyone wanting to learn the basics of garment making that they attend this course to give them the know how and confidence to start making their own garments.
Thanks for a great course.
