You will make a sample size curtain, which will include all of the techniques needed to make full size curtains. I have just attended the machine made curtain and blind one day course held at Janet's home. I have sewn for a number of years but have never really learnt how the ' professionals' do it. It was great to run through the basic curtain and blind making technique and I have already booked a further day for the 'bespoke hand made' one day course. Janet makes you feel very welcome and relaxed in her home and answered my endless questions! Having worked in the industry for many years she is a valuable contact for knowledge and advice as I intend to move forward building my own business. Thanks Janet you're a star.

I have now attended 2 different workshops at Make for Home. I only had a little experience of sewing previously, but Janet has taught me how to make my own curtains and roman blinds. I thoroughly enjoyed my days spent with Janet and would really recommend her classes. She is an excellent teacher, very knowledgeable and willing to share all her knowledge. Her home-made lunch was also delicious. Thanks Janet

I attended Janet's Roman Blind course (machine sewn). Janet is full of knowledge, and very happy to share it. She has notes and a spreadsheet to take away, so you are able to focus on watching, practising and learning. When I returned home, Janet also emailed additional information to me.
During the workshop she knew when I needed a little extra time on some areas, and adapted the workshop to suit. I came away with a blind, and the confidence and skills to have do this myself now. Her work is of a high quality, and exactly what I was looking for. She is patient, friendly and I'm looking forward to the next courses, which I have already booked.
Highly recommended, and thank you:)

Another fantastic course run by Janet. She covered all the skills necessary to create really lovely roman blinds. They're not as luxurious as the hand stitched ones, but they are much quicker to produce and so I think they will be a useful item to be able to offer my customers. Thank you again for an enjoyable and educational course.
Deborah Eastmond - - #23009
This course was totally enjoyable, informative and left me feeling confident and inspired to produce my own curtains. Janet couldn't have been more helpful and informative.
I can highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn in a perfectly comfortable and pleasant workroom with a patient, friendly and experienced tutor, who left me feeling confident and excited to use my new skills.

I attended the machine Roman Blind making course and absolutely loved it. Janet was very attentive and concise in her teaching. Everything was broken down to simple instructions as well as brilliant work sheets which will be invaluable to making roman blinds in the future. I now feel confident to make my own blinds professionally after just one day. Very hospitable and a lovely lady. I would highly recommend!

Janet has taken me for two courses now. The first with a friend, the second one was on a one to one basis. The first course was called - 'Curtain making to a Professional Standard' I think, & it was very informative. I am the sort of person who learns by doing things myself, it was so helpful that we made a dummy curtain on the day, all the while following Janet guidance and her thorough notes which she gives you to take away.
The second course was a Roman Blind making course to make interlined blinds, which was also extremely good and I now feel confident that I can go away and make a Roman Blind from scratch with the aid of her notes and the dummy blind we made.
Janet has made an easy to follow excel spreadsheet for both of the courses which help you to calculate how much fabric is required for different types of curtains and also for the Roman blinds .
I have saved a fortune making curtains and blinds for my new home - just the Roman Blind alone would have been over £600 if I had gone to John Lewis - and that was a quote NOT for interlined blinds! By going on her course it has cost me a fraction of that price to make one myself, and I have the knowledge forever!
Janet explains everything well and also the reasoning behind it. She is very personable and her classes are held at her lovely home in Sale which is very handy for the motorway. I live in a suburb of Liverpool and it took just 45 minutes to drive there.
I would highly recommend taking the time to go one one of Janets courses - for making your own curtains or if you are thinking of starting up a small business.

I was a complete beginner when I had my first lesson. Janet has taught me not to be scared of my sewing machine and I have gone on to make Roman blinds and am now making these for friends and charging them. I have learnt so much and would recommend these classes.

I recently attended the curtain making course, then the cushion making course the week after.
I found Janet to be very welcoming and she made sure I understood each step.
One on one tuition was intense but also a lot of fun.
I felt able to ask her if I didn’t understand something and she made sure I was comfortable with each and every step.
The course also came with easy to follow written instructions and included lots of help and advice with setting up my own business.
I’m looking forward to the next course, making roman blinds.
I would highly recommend Janet to anyone looking to learn a new skill.

I attended the one day course recently to learn to make 'Machine Lined Curtains' this was despite being an absolute beginner who was useless at sewing lessons when at school.
After contacting Janet and talking with her I felt quite happy to attend as no experience was required at all.
Janet was a very good teacher, showing me how to work out what material I needed with 'her easy chart' and gave helpful handouts and instructions for me to refer to in future. All materials and tools were provided by Janet and I came home with a curtain made by myself and came away from the class with a great sense of achievement and very proud of myself.
Lunch was provided by Janet also which was very enjoyable.
All in all I had a real pleasant day, in fact the day flew by and I was sorry to be going home as I had enjoyed myself so much.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. If Janet can teach me to make curtains well all I can say is anyone can learn.

I recently attended the curtain making course with my friend. It was brilliant!!
Janet was so friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. There were no 'silly questions', the pace of the course was perfect and it was a great balance of theory and practical.
Dinner was also included which was delicious as was the banana bread!
I woukd definately recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn how to make their own curtains.

I have just had a fantastic day learning how to make curtains.
Janet was very friendly and welcoming and had a kind and patient manner. She took me step-by-step through the curtain-making process, helping me with the bits I found tricky. Regular cups of tea and a delicious homemade lunch really topped off the day.
At the end of the session, I felt very proud to come home with a curtain I had made myself and I now feel confident enough to make curtains for my own home.
Thank you for such an enjoyable day, Janet.

Last weekend a friend and I did Janet's lined curtain course, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Janet was really lovely and very experienced. Not only did we leave knowing how to make really professional looking lined curtains, but we had a great day with excellent company and a yummy lunch / cake!

I attended this course on Sat 18th Feb. Janet was very welcoming. She was very patient and there was a lovely atmosphere. I was extremely pleased with the tuition received. Janet was very helpful and provided clear instructions. All materials were supplied and I made a 1m curtain, pattern matched, lined and with header tape. It contained all the necessary elements to enable me to scale up to construct full size curtains. I came away from the class with a great sense of achievement and very proud of myself. Janet provided clear notes to follow and for me to take away and a step by step chart to follow.
Janet provided lots of refreshments and a beautiful lunch. I am certain that when I undertake my first unsupervised project that Janet would be happy to provide any support (if needed). It was a most enjoyable day. I really enjoyed it and would recommend.

As a beginner, I found this course perfect. Janet was very patient with me and I was amazed at how much I learnt in one day. I have since made a lovely Roman blind for my daughter who could not believe I had made it myself- thank you, I would recommend this course 100%
Karen Welbeck - - #4557
