Introduction to Table Loom Weaving Workshop (Two-Day), Fisherton Mill, Salisbury
Description
Spend two inspiring days at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury learning the craft of table loom weaving — an in-depth and rewarding introduction to hand weaving fine cloth by hand. Guided by Ellie Fisher from Elka Textiles, a professional weaver with over 20 years’ experience, you’ll learn how to plan, thread and weave on a table loom while exploring pattern, rhythm and structure. Because setting up a table loom is more detailed than frame or inkle weaving, this workshop takes place over two full days to give you time to understand the process and develop confidence. On day one, you’ll learn how to plan and make a warp, wind it onto your loom and thread it correctly. Day two is dedicated to exploring patterns and weaving your own set of samples to take home. This small, friendly workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting a refresher. Clear printed handouts are provided to support your learning, and you’ll receive a 20% discount on lunch in the Fisherton Mill Gallery Café.

Maker
ELKA is a weaving and natural dye studio based in Hampshire. Ellie spent a large part of her childhood living abroad and travelling. The vibrant markets of the Middle and Far East triggered her passion for colour, texture and pattern and this influence is expressed through her textiles. She completed both her BA in Textile Design, specialising in woven textiles, and MA in Design for Textile Futures at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 2006. After graduating, she moved back to Winchester to set up her weaving business which she has been running full time since 2015. In 2018 Claudia (Ellie's mum) started working with the business to produce naturally dyed yarns for Ellie to weave with, and to sell on our website. If you are too far afield to join us on an in-person workshop, we have a growing range of online self-paced courses which have been designed to get you confidently weaving and natural dyeing from you home.
