A two day workshop for beginners between 10am - 4pm at the Elka studio in Littleton, Hampshire.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is quite an intense workshop and there is a lot to take in over the two days, especially on day one, but everything you learn is supported with a handout of clear notes which is yours to make notes on and take home.
DAY ONE: Planning your warp and setting up your loom.
- The basic principles and terminology of weaving.
- How to plan and make a warp, wind it onto your loom and thread the loom up.
DAY TWO: Patterns and weaving.
- Looking at and documenting patterns.
- Lots of weaving!
Please be aware that people learn at very different paces, something you find very simple, another might really struggle to understand and vice versa.
You will be encouraged to support your fellow group members whilst working at your own pace. It is important that you don't worry about what stage other people are on as this will only hold you back.
I will ensure that by the end of the two days you will take home a series of woven samples.
There are never more than four people per workshop to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and for those with a little experience that would like a refresher.
You will have the opportunity to buy your loom and other pieces of equipment at the the end of the workshop if you wish to do so, for which you will be given a 10% discount.
Please ensure that you inform us of any disabilities prior to booking so as we can discuss all possible options with you.
WHAT TO BRING
I will provide hot drinks and biscuits all day but please do bring a pack lunch with you.
You will be provided with all the materials you will need for the workshop however if you have any material at home that you would like to experiment with then please feel free to bring them along.
There is plenty of parking for the studio. You will need to open the big metal gate to enter the parking area and shut it behind you. The studio is through the black wooden gates into the stable area, first black door on your left. Please come on in.
Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure you have time to grab a cuppa before the workshop begins.
I look forward to meeting you soon but if you have any questions beforehand, please feel free to contact me.

I had a wonderful evening with Ellie and several other people in a lovely setting where we were served green teas and raw mint cake. It was gorgeous.
The class itself was excellent. We all had a great time and produced work that were all so different from each others but all really artistic and lovely to see. I loved the introduction to the art of weaving. Ellie was really attentive to each of us and a great teacher. I am really proud of what I achieved and of course purchased the loom I was using so I could do more on my own. Maybe even do a further course to improve on the skills we learned.
Thank you Ellie X
Thank you Karen for the lovely review. It was great to meet you and i'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop. Your weaving was fantastic! Ellie X
A wonderful evening which was held in a very harmonious location. The workshop was excellent; clear, enthusiastic advice and guidance led a complete novice through the stages of preparing my loom frame and beginning to weave. The range of fabrics and threads were numerous enough to unlock the creative juices of the most uncrafty of people. The end result; a piece of original weaving the creation of which had totally absorbed me and enthralled me.
I would thoroughly recommend this workshop and indeed would suggest that if weaving is something you would like to do then please contact Ellie; you will not be disappointed.
Thank you so much Kevin for the lovely review, your weaving was fantastic. I'm so happy that enjoyed the workshop and it was great to finally meet you. Thank you also for the happy humming :) Very best wishes, Ellie
Ellie's weaving workshop was a lovely way to spend an evening. She is a great teacher - informative, encouraging and generous with her time. There were lots of resources available and the handouts will be very useful. I came away feeling that I had learnt enough to be comfortable starting my own projects at home. Thank you Ellie!
Thank you for the lovely review Fiona. It was great to meet you and i'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop, and that you feel confident to continue at home. Your weaving was wonderful! Very best wishes, Ellie
This was a lovely introduction to loom weaving. The workshop for me was a success and I came away feeling that I had enough knowledge to try more at home. Ellie gave clear instructions and interacted with everyone individually whilst giving encouragement where needed. I would gladly recommend it!
Hi Glenna, thank you so much for the review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop and that you've continued weaving at home. Best wishes, Ellie
I had a lovely time at the hand loom workshop, Ellie was a very warm, welcoming and supportive teacher - the time flew by and I left having learned about weaving, tassels and knots! and came home with my prize of a woven artwork which I had made all by myself.
The venue was also really great, alongside all my fellow weavers - a really wonderful way to spend an evening. I left, with hand loom to continue learning and practicing... I'll be back Ellie.
Hi Angela, thank you so much for the lovely review. It was a pleasure to meet you and I'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop. See you again :)
A great way to spend an evening! I went along with my mum and aunty and we all throughly enjoyed it, Ellie was a great teacher and explained techniques really clearly for us as well as always being on hand throughout the session to go over things and show 1-2-1. So happy with the weaving I took away!
Hi Becki, It was so lovely to have to all on the workshop and i'm so glad you enjoyed it. Your weaving was absolutely fantastic!
A really lovely way to spend an evening. Right from the start the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing which made learning fun. Ellie's care and attention to detail (such as the baskets with resources and equipment) indicated that the course was well thought through and professional. There was no pressure to finish the weaving which enabled everyone to work at their own pace and to their own level of satisfaction.
I left feeling inspired to learn more.
Thank you for the lovely review Petina! It was great to have you on the workshop, i'm so glad you enjoyed it. Very best wishes, Ellie
