4 day course in upholstery, soft furnishings or loose covers

Description

Angie aims at this 4-day course to introduce new students to the wonderful occupations of either upholstery, soft furnishings or loose covers, in a happy balance between learning and enjoyment, so that you can go home and transform your homes. She has been teaching for nearly 18 years from her home just outside Matlock on the edge of the Peak District. There are 3 students on this 4-day course. The small student numbers mean that I can provide one to one tuition and a lot can therefore be achieved on the full length (9-5) days. You also have the opportunity to work late after I finish teaching on all days except Mondays. We try hard to find a balance between learning a new skill and having an enjoyable time. While we work away in the workshop - old pub darts room, Carl works downstairs preparing us delicious lunches. Some suggestions as to suitable projects are as follows: Upholstery - a fireside, winged armchair, bedroom chair, dining chairs, headboard, footstool (small to very large and we can provide frames at additional cost), box cushions are some suggestions. projects can be traditional or modern. It is often a good idea to bring a variety of smaller projects than one huge one. However, if you have a much-loved piece of furniture that is all you want to upholster then that is fine, just be prepared that you may well not complete it! Contact Angie if you are unsure whether your project is suitable. Soft furnishings - lined and interlined curtains, one or more roman blinds, scatter or box cushions, pelmets, bedspreads and valances etc. Loose covers - you should manage to complete a cover for an armchair in the 4 days but it is important that you have good sewing skills to undertake these.
