Bring Your Own Upholstery Project - 1 day workshop 9.30am-4.30pm
Description
Are you looking to learn the wonderful art of upholstery? Or perhaps you’re already hooked and would like to improve your skills? At MODE Upholstery School we are dedicated to help you achieve this. Your tutor, Sarah has been teaching upholstery since 2012 and is a full member of the AMUSF, so you can be assured that you will be in safe & knowledgeable hands. This one day workshop is a great way to dip your toe to see if you’re going to enjoy the craft or perhaps you’re already working on a project and need some additional knowledge to move on to the next stage of the upholstery process. There is no limitation to the item of furniture you wish to bring along - as long as you can transport it to and from class. If this is your first project a dining chair with a drop in seat pad, footstool or basic headboard is ideal and can generally be completed in a day. Perhaps you have a family heirloom or auction find that you would like to learn how to recover or reupholster. - You will be introduced to the tools of the trade and how to use them safely. - Strip back the layers of existing upholstery. - Clean & make good the framework, (major repairs may need to be carried out by a carpenter). - Paint, wax or french polish show wood. - Reupholster using traditional or modern materials (webbing, hessian, horsehair etc.) and techniques sympathetic to the age of your project Please do bring your own tools if you have them. If not, tools are available for you to use during your time with MODE. We have starter tool kits to buy and recommend you try out the ones in class before making your purchase. All classes are limited to a maximum of 6 students ensuring you receive lots of tuition. Please do take a look at our independent reviews at the bottom of this page to read students feedback. If you have a question before booking or not sure what project to bring along please feel free to email Sarah who will be happy to help.
