Description:

LEVEL: Beginner
DATES: Saturday 6th and 13th May
TIME: 10am-12noon
COST: £40

I will be running a tile making course at The Craft Barn in Hadfield in May. The course is split into two 2 hour sessions. The first part (Saturday 6th) will concentrate on the basics of rolling out tiles and some of the decorating techniques that can be used on soft clay such as slip trailing and stamping.

The second part (Saturday 13th) will see participants working with leather-hard clay and learning the basics of sgraffitto and relief decoration.

All the finished tiles will be taken back to my studio to be glazed and fired and will be available for collection approximately 4 to 5 weeks later.

To make sure all participants get the most from this course there is a maximum limit of 7 participants. The total cost for both sessions will be £40. This covers all materials and firing costs. Please be aware that full payment is required to guarantee your place on the course.

ABOUT ME:
After graduating from the 3D Design course at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2005, I moved back to Wales to established a workshop on the family farm near Aberystwyth. I made wood-fired stoneware pots and made my own ash based glazes. In 2009 I relocated my practice to Glossop, a small town on the edge of the Peak District. Here, I set up a new workshop and started making earthenware tiles based on medieval designs. I still make pots and once a year I take a selection of pots down to Wales to fire in the wood-firing kiln.

What's included in the price?

All materials, equipment and tools will be provided, along with light refreshments and snacks. Plastic disposable aprons will also be provided, however please feel free to bring your own apron - and wear suitable clothing (clay can be very messy!).

An excellent course. The day was well organised and the atmosphere was relaxed. A great environment to be creative. Deiniol explained everything very clearly, was happy to answer all our questions and provide expert tuition. I highly recommend this course.

-

I absolutely loved this course! Super relaxing fun, Deiniol is really friendly, knowledgeable and creative, and I came away with some beautiful tiles.

-

I had attended tile making and coil pot courses before and came back because Deiniol's courses before had been excellent, well organised and with plenty of chance to try things out, I shall be looking out for other courses and am hoping to continue an interest in ceramic tile making

-

I was only able to attend the 1st part of the course this time, but can't wait to do the second part.
Deiniol was a great teacher, & we were quickly hands on & making the tiles for ourselves, using a variety of different decorating techniques. Great fun, I would definitely recommend it.

-

A fantastic course! I thoroughly enjoyed doing this tile making course. Deiniol is a great teacher, very patient and friendly, and made all the techniques accessible and easy to understand. We got to try many different decorating techniques and styles, and were encouraged to use our own imagination to put our own stamp on the tiles we made.
The price of the course is extremely reasonable considering all the materials provided and the amount of time Deiniol puts in; not only the course time but time in the studio preparing for the course and then firing the tiles afterwards etc. And we get to take home the tiles we made (I made at least 6).
I would highly recommend this course to anyone, as I said I loved doing this course and look forward to doing another.
