margaret reviewed: Two day clay animal sculpture course

"Hi I attended the clay course yesterday and was so pleased with how the day went. It was a treat to be outside on a lovely sunny day and Miranda was an excellent tutor. She finds a good balance between being instructive but also giving you the freedom to go at your own pace and with your own style. She was very generous with the clay and her tools and for making suggestions as to how best to use the clay and which tools to use when for best effect. She was very relaxed and there was no pressure but she kept good time keeping in encouraging us onto the next stage bearing in mind there was a lot to do in the day. Perhaps on a longer course it would be good to learn about different techniques for creating animals and the different ways that clay can react to kiln firing."

Amerton Arts Studio responded:

"Thank you for your review Margaret, so glad you enjoyed the day making your elephant, we do run longer courses so may see you again."

Alison reviewed: Spoon Carving with Touchwood Glasgow

"I would highly recommend the course. There was enough space for individual creativity rather than making a set design, and as a teacher this takes experience to stand back rather than control the experience. Three of us started with three logs and ended up with spoons which couldn’t have been more different from one another and were all lovely. In this way the teaching was excellent, we weren’t shown what to do so much as shown how to make what we wanted to happen safely and get a good result. Our little group was great company too, between staring at pieces of wood we has some laughs too. From time to time Robert quietly stepped in to progress the work when we got a bit overwhelmed, sore hands or puzzled as to how to do the next part. Expect a long day, lots of concentration, a few dips where it seems impossible, and then suddenly progress, in short a genuine experience of the challenges of working with wood."

Matt Cook reviewed: woodturning tuition Hartlepool

"A thoroughly enjoyable and informative day spent with Dennis doing Woodturning. He was incredibly patient with me as a novice, and very good at explaining the art of the lathe. Very well equipped workshop, and the pieces I was able to make after just one full day I am very proud of, and that’s down to Dennis and his teaching. I couldn’t recommend highly enough and I’m certain to return in the near future"

"Thank you for your kind words. well done on your first day on a new craft."

Chris Roberts reviewed: Fab Fitting - Measuring Up

"Clearly explained with good handouts. Taken through all the measurements you need and when to add ease. Help with patterns that you are or want to make. That was an eye opener to see how a lady who is normally a size 14 needed a size 20 in some areas. Can’t wait to measure up my patterns."

Carol reviewed: Sculpture workshop two days with Jo Garden Art in beautiful rural Norfolk/Suffolk border setting

"I have just returned home from the most fabulous 2 day sculpture course with Jo in very sunny Suffolk. Through various emails before the course I just knew that I was dealing with the most lovely knowledgeable professional and I wasn’t wrong. Jo oozes enthusiasm and it is infectious. I ambitiously chose an intertwining couple sculpture, as usual doing a marathon before I could walk - BUT with Jo’s patience and guidance it is finished and will be proudly displayed in my garden. Thank you to Andy, Jo’s husband, for providing his welding skills and tea skills. This course was incredible. I met some lovely talented people and I am looking forward to my next project. I travelled from London and it was well worth it. (Stayed in the Premier Inn in Bury St Edmunds town ) Thank you so much Jo, I loved every minute!"

Jo Garden Art responded:

"Thank you so much for this lovely review Carol ?. You embraced the challenge of your complex sculpture and created a piece that can be displayed in a range of poses - well done! So glad you are thinking of more projects. Do not hesitate to make contact if you need to chat about any aspect. Lovely to meet your partner and pleased he enjoyed his exploration of the lovely places in and around Bury St Edmunds. Jo x"

Phil Gurney reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"Thoroughly enjoyed my blacksmiths experience day at the Firebird Forge. Myself and fellow pupil, Clare, learnt a lot in the day, had fun, and the time flew by. At the end of the day we both had a beautiful piece of work to take home and treasure. As much as it was a thrill to create something from scratch, it was equally a privilige to watch a master craftsman up close. Our blacksmith tutor, Mort, was a great teacher, and a great guy, with a story or to too! I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone."

Firebird Forge responded:

"Thanks for the great review Phil. It was a great fun day and a real pleasure to have you in the forge. Students such as you and Clare make my job such a laugh sometimes, thank you sincerely. All the best, Mort."

Roger Hall reviewed: Woodturning in Devon with Colin Simpson

"I had a great day with Colin. We started the day in the best possible way with a cup of tea! Then straight on to the business. He answered all my questions clearly and patiently. Although I had done some turning, Colin showed me the right way of doing it which included things that were obvious when mentioned to me but not things I had previously thought about. I have now turned a couple of pieces that I am extremely pleased with thanks to Colin’s guidance. I can only say that it was a fantastic day which flew by too quickly. I highly recommend the course."

Devon Wood Crafts responded:

"Thank you or this review Roger. If I can help in the future, please get back in touch."

Sam Knight reviewed: Candle making workshops for beginners - St Albans, Hertfordshire

"Anne created a relaxed, fun experience with a mix of informative tips and skills and practical candle making. It was well organised and all the materials were laid out ready to use. We made several types of candles, scented, coloured etc and Anne provided pretty wrapping materials to allow us to give the candles as gifts. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, what a treat to have several hours of productive creative activity in such a perfect location. I am already keen to do another course with Anne."

Malc reviewed: Bladesmithing experience day

"Excellent day's knife making! Steve was a perfect host and instructor. Very patient with my errors (like constantly missing the knife when hammering it on the anvil, or grinding it unevenly), which he then corrected for me! Happy to explain what we were doing and why. Took us through the process to time, and helped us produce wonderful looking knives at the end of it. Can't recommend this course enough, a really good day."

White Tiger Knives responded:

"Hi Malc I'm really glad that you enjoyed yourself so much, it was a blast and you did make a rather special knife. I know that it will serve you well whenever you use it. Kind regards Steve"
