The wonderful variety of animal and birdlife means that you will never be short of inspiration.
Liz runs a number of different days exploring the joys of painting animals with watercolour. You can either cover many animals in one day, or concentrate on farm animals, iconic hare, or pet portraits. The choice is yours.
We will spend time looking at eyes, form and texture to create convincing animal portraits brimming with life and energy.
The course will be held in a rural location near Twyford in Berkshire, to provide you with an inspiring and relaxing environment. All materials are provided, along with refreshments. No experience is needed to fully enjoy the day. If you already love painting in watercolours you will be provided with plenty of stimulation! Liz will let everyone go at their own pace to get the most out of the day.
Our venue is Micklems Farm in Knowl Hill. During lockdown Micklems refurbished the studio putting in new flooring to facilitate cleaning, new desks to help with social distancing and a camera system to enable demonstrations at a greater distance. Lunch is no longer included to prevent cross contamination. During good weather there is wonderful outside space to be enjoyed. Cleanliness and hand washing is actively encouraged. If you are not feeling well or are self isolating, please do not attend. In turn, the tutor promises not to teach if not well or isolating. If I am unable to teach I will of course refund you in full.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All artist quality materials and refreshments are included.
1 day (10:00am to 4:00pm)

It was a great day yesterday!
Liz put her ideas across to the class really clearly and in a way that was easy to understand.
It was so helpful to see Liz demonstrate some techniques too, and we all had fun trying these techniques for ourselves.
I felt that I learnt a lot and now have a clearer idea of how watercolour paint works.
I’m looking forward to attending more of Liz’s classes in the future.
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thanks so much Sue - really glad you enjoyed it and found it useful.
Not only is Liz a great artist, she is also a great tutor - and the two do not always go together! Liz has a relaxed and friendly manner and delivers a well structured course. Her critiques are fair, constructive and encouraging. I went hoping to learn how to 'let go' and loosen up a bit - and certainly achieved my objective, and learnt good techniques, as well as having fun. The Studio is ideal - and in a fabulous setting. I'll be back for more!
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Hi Karon, thank you for your lovely review. I smiled to myself as I did the intro and told you what we would be covering. Unfortunately as the ending is more loose I couldn't 'tell em what I told em'! So glad you enjoyed it and really hope to see you back soon. It is a gorgeous venue, isn't it??
I always enjoy being on the courses that Liz runs. She takes a lot of trouble to make them instructional and fun. Today we worked on painting animals in water colour and Liz was so helpful. She breaks the day into 4 sessions and demonstrates clearly what each section is teaching. She allows plenty of time for students to ask questions and we all had a great day.
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thank you so much Carole for a lovely review. I appreciate it and I am glad you enjoyed the day. See you soon!
Liz is a wonderful teacher: engaging, enthusiastic and encouraging. The course covered some basic and more advanced techniques with lots of time to practice and experiment. I would thoroughly recommend Liz’s courses to any one who loves watercolour
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Hi Donna, thank you for such a lovely review. I thought your otter was excellent and meant to take a photo, along with the silhouettes - but didn't. If you share on social media tag me and I with 'love' it! I am so glad you have booked on more courses. See you soon!
I have now attended 5 of Liz Chaderton's courses.
Liz is always so well prepared in the classroom.
A lot of prep' goes into these workshops: materials, time & thought of what we will paint. Fab lunch too.
Providing a comfortable & relaxed environment with everything we may need.
I am very happy with the final painting I produced & the other pieces we practiced in class went well too.
In fact, everyone produced something they should be pleased with due to the individual feedback & support given by Liz throughout the day.
I always find Liz very approachable & when I am stuck, Liz is more than happy to help.
So overall a fab day.
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Hi Jane, that's a lovely review. Thank you. I am so pleased you enjoyed the day. You are always full of energy and add lots to the workshop with your enthusiasm and positive attitude! See you soon! How's your seahorse??
Great teacher. Liz provides a well-structured and simple approach to watercolour. All materials are provided. Liz demonstrates different techniques to try and then allows the individual to try out all the techniques before creating a plan then final piece of artwork on whatever size paper the artists is comfortable with. ‘I am always delighted with the results no matter which art class I do with Liz. Highly recommended for any level of experience and for those artists who would like to loosen up their style.
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thank you so much Karen for the lovely comments. I am glad you enjoyed it. I loved your final hare - did you do any more to it at home? Will see you again soon!
Liz is an excellent tutor who shows a great understanding of how to put the art of water colour over to her pupils. She manages the day well and makes the course fun as well as inspirational.
I was particularly interested in the section of the day when we learnt about how to take care when painting eyes.
I always enjoy watching Liz paint and, as a teacher myself, I appreciate how much preparation she does for the classes and how much encouragement she gives to everyone.
Can’t wait for the next one!
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thank you so much Carole for all your support. That means a lot to me and looking forward to seeing you again soon.
As a convert from acrylic painting to watercolours, I learnt so many valuable tips and techniques form Liz, how to make use of the colours, tones and how to put them on your paper, very simple once you know how!! So thanks for that Liz, the demonstrations are easy to follow and understand and offer many 'light bulb' moments. Liz herself was a great mentor for the day, and thanks to her guidance, I've sold a couple of my own paintings recently. onwards and upwards! Highly recommend, whatever level you are at :)
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thank you for such a lovely review and congratulations about selling your paintings. I think it’s a huge compliment that someone wants to live with your work every day! Really pleased you enjoyed it and hope to see you again soon.
I had a wonderful day with Liz. She is very enthusiastic and encouraging, sharing her love of painting with us. The day was extremely well organised, all materials were provided and the lunch was fabulous..a great choice for all.
Liz has a great sense of humour and generous with her time and sharing her techniques.
It was very liberating way to paint and now “eyes” have lit up on my animal paints, all thanks to Liz 😀
If you get a chance to be in one of Liz's workshops you won’t be disappointed!
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thank you so much Michèle! That’s a lovely review and I’m so glad you enjoyed the day.
I thoroughly enjoyed my painting day with Liz, we covered many aspects of watercolour techniques that Liz has made her own and was very generous in sharing them with us.
The animal eyes and tonal values were particularly useful part of the workshop.
Response from Liz Chaderton Artist:Thanks Chris! So glad you enjoyed it. That’s the first time I’ve used the tonal demonstration in a workshop, so I’m glad it was useful.
