The Great British Woodshop's Power Tools course did exactly this. David Free combines years of furniture building professional knowledge and skills with an ability to provide constructive feedback; he strikes an ideal balance between explanation and providing opportunity for hands-on experience with a range of power tools. Attending the course is akin to working with an old friend who offers advice on projects and with whom you chat about varying topics that range from tennis to skiing over a sandwich at lunch."

"This course is excellent and I would definitely recommend whether you are looking for a morning of fun or to learn a new skill! My mum and I had a wonderful Saturday morning...the workshop was so informative, yet full of fun and the home baking was an added bonus and not to mention the warm delivery!"

"THe two of us decided we wanted to try some blacksmithing......we were greeted by Mort and his two lovely spaniels and spent time being shown 'how to do it'. Then it's down to you!!! MOrt is always there to take over and put right the mess you've got yourself in.....It's a lot of fun and you soon appreciate how challenging this art work is !! You come away appreciating the fine metalwork we see around us. ITs a great day and you come away with some very basic skills and some examples of work that you have made....( sometimes with a little help from Mort) THanks Mort...really enjoyable day."

"I attended the 'make a necklace course' and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've never made anything at a craft course before, but I found the instruction and processes to make my beautiful flower necklace (that everybody comments on) really easy to follow. The workshop is perfect for learning in and Martin was very patient and helpful. I also met some lovely new people."

"What a lovely way to spend a day and what a venue. Very clever place to have a cosy workshop. Started off with simple chain making skills and then some copper work. Lunch was spent in the sun on canal side before getting on with making our bangles. I'm wearing mine with great pride! Several mugs of tea and luscious cake thrown in for good measure. Thank you Jonathan, you are a great teacher with magnificent patience, luckily for us!! Would recommend this course time and time again and have done."

"Really enjoyed this course. I loved the fact that I knew nothing about enamelling when I started in the morning and took home four lovely pieces, which I have already worn. Eleanor was a lovely teacher, clear instructions and calm when when things got a bit panicky. I am already planning my next course with her."

"Spent a lovely day making an obelisk for next year's sweet peas which will take pride of place in our garden. Eddie explained everything very simply and was very encouraging. The setting was wonderful and our hostess very welcoming and a lovely lunch and refreshments were provided throughout the day."

"2 fantastic days spent learning the ways of lampworking, from basic pendants and stringers to fancy patterned beads and twisty earrings and even a pair of glass hedgehogs! Pauline is a great teacher and I have learnt so much from her in just 2 lessons and a lot of fun along the way! Highly recommended course for anyone interested in lampworking."

"Chris has great facilities and provided both the tools and experience needed to start making spoons from scratch! The pace is very good and Chris provides clear instruction, guidance and demonstration with his passion about green woodwork being clear. Have to shout out to "Mum" for the great food throughout the day! Great day, learnt a lot and look forward to having a go on my own (once my axe turns up), but would also love the chance for a follow-up course to further refine technique, but will also look at his other woodwork courses. Thanks for a great day!"

"My girlfriend and I have just completed a workshop with Lucy to make engagement rings for each other. What a wonderful day we had! I cannot recommend it enough. Lucy is a fantastic teacher and is extremely patient. She really goes that extra mile and cares so much about helping you get the exact design you want, regardless of the time it takes. The attention to detail and process involved in making the rings was fascinating and a real eye-opener to me. I would love to return some day to do another workshop. We received such a warm welcome when we arrived and by the end of the day felt like Lucy and her husband Peter were our friends. We received some lovely photos of our day and a nice message a few days after our visit, which was a really nice touch. Since then family and friends have raved about how beautiful the rings look and they have all commented on what a romantic and special thing it was to do. We'll definitely be going back to Lucy to make our wedding rings."

"what a fantastic way to spend some time! Everything about the retreat was great. The people on it, the beautiful venue and the things we did. By far the best thing about the retreat was Rosie. She just has a way of working away in the back ground to make everything so nice. She seems to do this easily but it is a huge amount of work. The activities and the walks are all available but with no pressure to do everything and that just seems to work. This is the third course that i have done with Rosie and each one has been amazing ! Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a bit of space and relaxation"

"I really enjoyed this day (the summer '17 version). I tried the silversmithing and made a ring, eco-printing with plants and flowers, paper crafting and encaustic art so was happily absorbed for several hours for very little money! Lunch at Cegin Bella was also delicious. Will definitely be coming to the next one!"

It was both relaxing and fun making the macrame bracelet in your lovely studio, with very pleasant company and your most patient teaching. You make a great cup of tea too! I shall certainly book more courses with you and I would thoroughly recommend this macrame class to everyone! Having bought several little macrame kits from you, I came home and made another bracelet, whilst at the same time showing a friend how to make one herself too!
