Still life textile art - a one day fabric collage workshop with Imogen Bitter
This course caters for all abilities from complete beginner to the more experienced textile artist and I offer one to one tuition throughout the day as required.
My textile still life courses have previously only used the technique of appliqué - the fabrics being attached by an electric or hand machine.
I am introducing a collaging technique for those who do not have or do not wish to use a sewing machine.
Both techniques will be used simultaneously in each workshop so whether you choose to stitch or to collage, the methods I use to build up a still life will be the same.
Making patterns from favourite objects that you bring along, using printed /painted fabrics- layered, collaged or stitched to create a vibrant still life image.
For those wishing to sew - no specific skills or sophisticated machines are necessary but please bring sewing machine, scissors and any inspiring fabrics you wish to use although I have a large supply included in the price of the course.
For those wishing to use the simple but effective hand technique, (iron-on collage), just bring along scissors and any inspiring fabrics.
The workshops take place in my North Dorset studio which offers a safe, light and warm environment with plenty of space to spread out with onsite parking. We are on the ground floor but no wheelchair access unfortunately.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Please bring a packed lunch or visit the pub next door; hot and cold drinks and homemade cake will be available throughout the day.
Materials (a huge stash of!) and all tools included, but please feel free to bring your own.
6 hours (10:00am to 4:00pm)

Had a great day learning the fabric collage skills that will enable me to make my own pictures. Imogen's workshop is lovely too, with a wood burner so it's nice a cosy, plus we had some delicious cake that she had made.
Whether a beginner or more advanced, I thoroughly recommend this fabric collage course.
Thank you, Imogen.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Imogen is an excellent and talented artist and teacher and I feel encouraged to continue working with textiles in this way.
Response from Imogen Bittner Studio:I enjoyed working with you very much and was so impressed with your still life. Can't wait to see more!
Excellent and interesting class, very good individual attention. Thank you very much.
Response from Imogen Bittner Studio:Very interesting and unique work- good luck with your future ideas, I think they would work very well in this medium.
Imogen is an enthusiastic and patient tutor - with her guidance I made a fabric collage 'still life' and I'm really pleased with it! The whole day was so relaxed and enjoyable that I felt as if I'd had a little holiday. The lunch that Imogen provided was excellent - so was the venue. I would highly recommend this workshop.
Response from Imogen Bittner Studio:Lynn's image was impressive. Using vibrant fabrics and strong design, she created an amazingly unique and interesting image that glowed and attracted from across the room. An incredible first!
I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop which was like a breath of fresh air. It was relaxed and fun but also informative and taught me a lot about using different fabrics to create a picture using only scissors and a sewing machine. It was very satisfying to leave with a piece of work that was almost complete and I now feel much more confident in experimenting further at home. Imogen is a very supportive teacher and guided me through the process, offering suggestions when needed. We also had a delicious lunch! If you like playing around with fabrics you will enjoy this. I will definitely be making a return visit.
Imogen is so very patient, supportive and creative on our recent workshop. What an amazing artist! She helped me to create my ‘masterpiece’ with my limited sewing and artistic skills - truly amazing! Imogen is so giving, a wonderful inspiring artist and she also provided the most scrummiest lunch which added to our day. The day went by in a flash, yet we accomplished some fabulous pictures, thank you!
Imogen is an excellent host and teacher. She looked after us straightaway teaching us the process and different options, she was reassuring and extremely helpful. I came away with an amazing piece of work I never imagined I would been able to create. Imogen should also consider going into catering as her lunch was gorgeous!
Basic still life drawing tecniques shown with a view to translating them into textiles but without the need of previous skills in this area. A really informative day where students work on individual themes at their own pace helped where necessary by Imogen who will also encourage you to maybe try things outside of your comfort zone. A pressure free day made even more enjoyable by unlimited coffee, cake and a delicious homemade lunch. I would recommend this course as a way to develop your use of colour and design skills.
Response from Imogen Bittner Studio:Dy's willingness to learn a new technique resulted in an exciting and unique piece of work and her friendly attitude contributed greatly to the relaxed atmosphere of the group.
