Deryck Myhill reviewed: Blacksmithing Beginners day courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"Had a really great day last Saturday making a dragon coat hook and key ring. A really unusual and satisfying birthday present and a lasting result to take home. Enjoyed the banter and company. We were shown how to do the various stages and given guidance as and when we needed it. Great atmosphere, good company and not forgetting great food! Many thanks."

Carolyn Glanfield reviewed: Blacksmith Experience Day - Anvil Forge

"From the moment we arrived John made us feel very welcomed. I had some reservations as to whether I'd be physically or creatively capable, however, it soon became very apparent that these were ill-founded. John and the team were very organised, friendly and always ready to assist when required. I arranged this day as a surprise birthday present for my Son and it was lovely to see him so engrossed with the practicalities of blacksmithing and forgetting to check for incoming emails etc! We both learnt a lot and we were really chuffed with our individual projects which we will always have as a reminder of the day. FabUlous."

Woodturning Day reviewed: Wood turning tuition, New Forest, Hampshire (1 day) (2 people)

"I booked a day woodturning with Graham for my Dad's 70th birthday present and we had a wonderful time! Graham is very friendly, supportive and a good teacher. He gave us just the right amount of instruction and we had so much practical making time. We both made a candle stick and a bowl which looked far more professional than we could have imagined. The studio you work in is lovely and warm thanks to a little wood burning stove and the equipment you use is good quality. We were given lots of safety equipment too. Lunch was a lovely bowl of soup with lots of fresh bread. We were made very welcome by Graham, his wife (who kindly showed us around her onsite hedgehog rescue centre) and the dogs, it was all charmingly bonkers in a very good way! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Graham to anyone and both my Dad and I agreed we would love to go back for another day to learn even more. Joanne and Alan"

Alex reviewed: Hand spinning 2 day course: From fleece to fibre

"What a great way to spend a weekend! Having never done any spinning or crafting before, with Elaines help I managed to produce something resembling "proper" wool by the end of the two day course. I learned so much and am planning to use my own fleeces once Santa delivers a spinning wheel. Elaine was lovely and I had a great time. Would definitely recommend especially for beginners like me. Thank you."

Amelia reviewed: Mosaic workshop at Jackie Nash Art

"What a fabulous day! A birthday treat for my mother, which turned out to be a treat for us all. Jackie is a wonderful host and an enthusiastic teacher. With a treasure trove of mosaics and lots of creative ideas to choose from, we were spoilt for choice for things to make. With plenty of support and a day of concentrated activity, we all left for home with something we were proud of. I would highly recommend the day - and the lemon cake! We will come again."

Kieran Kelly reviewed: Four day intensive beginners woodwork course

"I completed the 4 days beginners' course a few weeks ago and enjoyed every minute of it. It was great to learn how to do a lot of new things regarding woodworking and just as great to learn how to do properly those things I have tried before! The teaching was excellent; Ciaran explained very clearly and was always on hand to lend help when needed. To be able to go home at the end of the course with an item of furniture of which I could be proud was fantastic. I am certain that everyone on the course not only benefitted from what we all learned but also enjoyed immensely the conviviality of the four days. Thanks, Ciaran; I look forward to doing a few more jobs and then taking on the intermediate course. Kieran"

Sue Platt reviewed: Felt Making Workshops - Stratford upon Avon

"Three friends and I booked a day workshop as a surprise for a 50th birthday, and we all had a wonderful time not just the birthday girl! Lesley's tuition was just amazing and she was so patient with those of us who were perhaps not so artistically gifted...gave us such confidence! We all found it incredible how you can change strands of wool into a beautiful piece of felt and then a notebook cover....Lesley was very generous both with her materials and her time, and gave us the materials to try bead making at home when we had run out of time to do it at the workshop...we're looking forwards to being creative together again soon! Thanks too to Carl for making us lovely coffee and collecting the lunch and to Lesley for the delicious cake! (We also enjoyed meeting your gorgeous dogs....so well behaved!) We would all thoroughly recommend this course."

Gill Edwards reviewed: Introduction to candle-making as a business

"I booked this course as an introduction to candle making, having considered setting up my own business. The course was perfect! Jo was very generous Sharing her expertise and tips including suppliers, legal requirements and of course, the art of candle making. The day was very enjoyable, a beautiful venue, and myself and my fellow course attendees were made to feel very welcome and at home. It felt as though I were spending a fun day with friends. The candles we made were beautiful, and I left feeling enthused and keen to make more. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this course, whether it be for fun and to learn a new skill, or to help with the finer points relating to the making of candles to sell. Gill"
