Limited to 3 participants, the workshops take place in my woodcarving studio in South Devon which is set-up for teaching children and adults.
My teaching experience is based on over 22 years of teaching woodcarving and other three dimensional arts and crafts to adults and children. I love sharing my experience and enthusing others in working with wood.
I am regularly asked : How do you find a form inside the wood ? In this one day course I will share with you my process of creating a small carved sculpture. I can advise on a project suitable for your level of experience by showing some examples and explain how to design your own work.
At the end of the course, you will have a carved sculpture to take home.
You will use traditional European woodcarving tools and techniques to design and carve a small animal or wooden object. During the course, I will guide you through the design and carving process. All techniques and tools will be demonstrated and explained. Throughout the course, I will be present and available to help.
I feel inspired by the ever-changing and evolving forms in nature and the seasons. Animals and the development of plant forms are a constant inspiration for me. Working wood with traditional hand tools and techniques is a very rewarding experience. Each piece of wood is different and carving is a conversation with a unique piece of living material.
On leaving you will take home your own personally designed wood carving and will have experienced the process of creating a carved sculpture with traditional tools.
Please bring your own lunch. I will provide hot drinks
