A well organised workshop and friendly atmosphere. Jason gave very good demonstrations and helpful advice. I had a very enjoyable and productive day - I didn't finish what I was making but I hadn't gone with that intention - I'm aiming to join further classes with Jason to learn more and to finish my project.

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

Thanks for your review Kay!
It was a lovely day with a diversity of ideas to help along . Great to work with a lively group happy to learn carving techniques.

Just got home from my whittling course with my Green Man sculpture. Have surprised myself with the end product. Jason was a great instructor and helped and guided everyone as required. The group on the course were really friendly. A great day out - highly recommend.

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

It was a great day and thanks for pursuing your carving through to completion- your green man tag team team up was most unexpected but made for a great pic,
thanks to you and Ed!

Went to have a go at something I admired and enjoyed myself immensely. Jason was friendly and helped me find the right way to make my idea a reality. Every tool was there to use and Jason explained everything clearly and helped in any way he could. Would definitely come back.

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

Thanks for your kind review -It was a great day of carving and a pleasure to skill share with you- looking forward to another visit!

Attended the wood carving course a few weeks ago. Jason teaches with just the right mixture of instruction with the various tools, showing you how to achieve a particular effect, and just letting you get on with it. It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere in an inspiring workshop, and we all got help when we needed it. I was amazed at what I could achieve in a day from having had no prior experience. Thank you Jason - I will be back!

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

Thanks for a lovely review Vivienne!
A great day all due to your fellow course mates and yourself for working so hard.
I look forward to seeing you again!

My first time at wood carving, Jason is a lovely person and puts you at ease. He explains things well and can give you all a lot of one on one time in the group. He explains which tools and techniques would be best to use on certain areas of your carving. I was surprised how much we managed to carve in a one day session. It was a great day and I would recommend.

Fabulous day making a wren. Jason encouraged me to use softer wood and I’m so glad I did. I learnt how to use chisels and a saw and my new best friend ‘the rasp’. To feel confident using the tools was a first for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and also the passion and enthusiasm Jason delivered.

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

Thank you Heather,
it was lovely to meet you and help you with carving your wren.

Pete Stanley - - #28325

Jason has a very good and patient teaching technique. He instills confidence and has the right balance of letting you learn and giving guidance.

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

Thanks Pete,
I like to encourage the diversity of people’s ideas. Helping them find their carving way- especially with as technically demanding projects as your own pursuit of intricate Celtic knot work.
Great group to work with.

A friend and I attended Jason's wood carving course on Sunday. We had a brilliant time. He is very knowledgeable and patient! Found out that he is skilled in metalwork, leatherwork and can offer other courses, too. Great!

I went on this workshop with my 13 year old daughter, we both had a great time and left at the end of the day with all two beautiful wood carvings. Jason is a good teacher and as a very good knowledge of his craft.

The course only ended half an hour ago but wanted to say a massive thank you to Jason for a great course. He was calmly jolly, patient and funny, gave really clear but creative explanations for things (I’ll never forget not to carve underminingly into my mountains) and was encouraging without being remotely patronising or fake. I find it hard to have confidence or to learn new skills without getting frustrated but this was pitched at the ideal level and Jason accommodated everyone. The studio is easy to get to with lovely views of sunny Sheffield too. Thank you Jason and wishing you very well with your bone projects.

Booked for my wife as a birthday present and we had a day to remember. We are both new to wood carving and were a bit apprehensive but Jason made us feel very comfortable in his workshop and taught us a lot of techniques during the day.
The time went too quickly.
Will be booking again.

My 10 year daughter and her friend went to one of Jason's woodcarving workshops and loved it. They spent 5 hours learning new techniques and creating sculptures they designed themselves. Jason was good at letting the girls just get on with it, offering hints and tips along the way. I would definitely recommend it to other children or even adults. Great workshop, great tutor. Cheers Jason
best wishes Karl

Response from Jason Thomson - Sculptor:

The girls were great to work with- attentive and determined to carve - both getting great results and only ten years old!

zarla harriman - - #8518

I had absolutely no prior experience with the tools involved in this kind of carving nor of creating anything so large. I learnt lots and came away with a carving I absolutely treasure. Jason was always patient, with just the right mix of 'let me show you how' and 'let me help' to get me carving confidently.
I would definitely come back time and again if I could.
Just being in the studio amongst Jason's own works was enough to inspire !
