Woodworking Day Course

Description

On the 3 joints making course We will start with accurate marking and measuring using the set square, steel ruler and other marking tools. Next we will cut the joints with a tenon saw or Japanese saw and clean out with chisels. No machinery is required to make these joints as this course is designed to introduce the student to handcrafted woodwork. Later in the day I will show you different hand plane techniques that I use and show you how to keep your tools sharp by creating the correct cutting angle. The course is about 7 hours with 30 minutes for lunch. We start at 10am but I'm flexible on times. All tools and materials are provided and any wood joints you make can be taken home with you. Plenty of Tea is on hand to keep our spirits up!

Maker

My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2023 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.
