The Monday Woodcarving Sessions at Queens Park Arts Centre, Aylesbury

About the Course
I introduce beginners to woodcarving with taster projects that will enable you to carve a relief, a dish, and a simple 3D object. With this experience you can then develop your own projects. In addition, you can shape wood with a spokeshave, make joints with chisels and bore holes with a brace and bit - processes which can lead to handmade utensils and to sculptural pieces that are constructed as well as carved: you might want to design your carving to be incorporated into a piece of furniture. Letter cutting is another skill area you can learn about. I will supply the tools, demonstrate techniques, keep you inspired with books, topics of interest, slideshows, and demonstrate how to keep your tools razor sharp.
I will charge for wood used in the taster projects and have wood available to purchase for your own projects. If you have them do, of course, bring your own tools, and any special piece of wood you want to carve.
These sessions are also ideal for woodcarvers with more experience who need a place to continue their projects in a well equipped workshop. People can join for just a term or keep coming for years!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
My own tools are always available for your use. However you are likely to be inspired to obtain you own! I can supply wood to you at a fair cost and can advise where to purchase wood yourself.
You can attend either the morning or the afternoon session, or stay the whole day and attend both. Sessions are for two and a half hours and we always have a tea break halfway through, with drinks and biscuits available to purchase in the Arts Centre Cafe.
My Monday Woodcarving Sessions re-commence on Monday 4th September, 2017. There will be a total of 14 Mondays this Autumn Term and we have a Half-Term Break from Monday 23rd October to Sunday 29th October. This means that that each half of the term has 7 Mondays in it. Session fees are £10.50 per session if you become a member of the Arts Centre and £13.00 per session if you remain a non-member. I encourage Session members to enrol for at least the first half of the term and you may also pay up for the all 14 sessions if you can. It might be worth becoming a member because you get discounts on many of the other events at Queens Park Centre.
