About the Course
Gaynor Goffe is one of the UK's foremost calligraphers and teachers in the country; she has produced many Calligraphy books, and is able to turn her hand to any style of lettering including her own beautiful typeface (Hamada) as well as the currently popular modern scripts.
Her last course here was attended by both beginners and experience calligraphers alike, each working on their own projects and many have already re booked - she is considered one of the best tutors in the UK and is inspiring for all levels including beginners.
Able to teach whichever style you choose on an individual level, (she can switch from one to another between students) be it uncial, roman, gothic, blackletter or any of the more formal scripts, or the currently very popular 'modern' pointed pen calligraphy, which is freer, less defined, with plenty of flourish and curls. Gaynor can do them all. She will bring beginner's dip pens and ink for you to use if you have no equipment and plenty of ideas of scripts for you to choose, if you're not sure, plus the various sheets to work from and practice so you can create perhaps an invitation, a poem, a name, a saying or simple sentence.
Suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced, Gaynor is a long-standing Fellow of the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society and the Society of Scribes & Illuminators. You can learn a script of your choice, experiment with scripts and work towards finished calligraphic compositions, including using colour in the pen and background.
Gaynor has worked with calligraphy since 1974 and has taught many of today's most prominent calligraphers. This course provides a unique opportunity for both aspiring and existing calligraphy students.
Greystoke has a village pub serving lovely food, a number of lovely B and B's as well as accommodation in the surrounding areas, we are very happy to send an accommodation list if you plan to come from afar.
