I try to keep all the sessions really playful and fun, helping you to explore what your new pens and nibs will do. Everyone is different, and some people like to try drawing with calligraphy pens rather than focusing on letters. That’s why I love teaching calligraphy. I write my own worksheets which incorporate as many swirls and flourishes as they do letters. Learning this way takes the focus off ‘handwriting’ and onto something more enjoyable and free! Create beautiful lettering using 'Gorgeously Swirly Calligraphy' for Christmas this year with Claire here in the lovely 'Swallow Barn' at Greystoke Craft Garden & Barns Join Claire for this friendly and relaxed Calligraphy workshop and learn how to write using this wonderful style of modern Calligraphy to create your own gorgeous cards, gift tags and more! This workshop is perfect for absolute beginners as well as those with a little Calligraphy experience - all are welcome! The workshop will take place in our lovely listed first floor studio, the Swallow Barn, where Claire's every hand movement and flourish will be filmed close up and projected onto a large screen above her, for all to see. This means everyone can enjoy their welcome coffee and biscuit from the comfort of their chairs and take it all in. Of course you can move closer to watch if you prefer! You’ll have fun getting to grips with a dip pen and copperplate nib in this friendly, relaxed class, from initial scratches and swirls you’ll soon be writing beautiful letters, all in the space of a couple of hours!  Please join us if you can – we’d love to help you learn the art of beautiful writing. Everyone will have some personal tuition on the day as well as the opportunity to watch demos and ask questions as you learn.

Situated in a tranquil location on the fringes of the Lake District in north west England, we have been hosting a Quirky range of workshops since 2005. We are now proud to offer over 140 Arts, Craft and Heritage Skills Workshops each year, led by an incredible and talented range of local and national tutors, all experts in their field. We have two teaching studios, the 'Squirrel Barn' and the newly renovated, spacious and airy 'Swallow Barn', the latter of which, at 60m2 was very popular in the months post Covid, allowing 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. We have several garden teaching spaces too. Lunch (included) can be taken outside on the Tea Lawn in warmer months and teas/coffee with Aga home-baking is served at your desk. Our days are considered real treats.
