Copperplate - Regular Classes - from January 2024

Here is a great opportunity to study COPPERPLATE with Julie Chaney live online via Zoom. The lessons are on Saturday mornings, every other week, starting at 11am and lasting for 2 hours. All levels are welcome. From absolute beginners to those with a basic knowledge of Copperplate wishing to progress and also intermediate and more advanced learners. The informal sessions are built around the ability levels of the students taking part and such a mix of skills adds to the depth (and often the speed) of learning. They are stand-alone sessions and students can join on any date and for any number of classes. However, regular attendance is encouraged for continuity and steady improvement. Exercises and practice suggestions are provided. Students may email images of their work to me prior to the session for discussion with the group. Active writing during the lesson is optional. We cover: - advice on tools & techniques, setting up and ruling lines - guidance on letter construction, shapes, heights, joining, spacing, flourishing, variations, etc - review of student work - live demonstrations - general discussion and feedback I’m happy to answer any questions.

What's included in the price?

I offer many exemplars and worksheets for printing at home (A4) and also suggest exercises to aid progress. A link to join the Zoom session will be sent ahead of each workshop.

What you will need

You will need basic drawing equipment, a calligraphy pen, ink and paper for practice. A list will be provided on booking. I can supply and post to you any materials that you need.
