Description
In this one-day, beginners' workshop with artist Panna Chauhan, you will study both the italic and foundational scripts, and learn how to use these in unique and abstract ways to create a framed calligraphy artwork ready to hang at home. The foundational and italic scripts are different in the way they are written, and because of the way the pen is held, and each has a unique look and style. Under Panna's watchful eye, you will spend the morning learning and practicing letter forms in the basic foundational hand (or script): learning about the different types of nibs; correct sizing of letters; and how to hold the pen with the right tension to achieve a fluid letter. After a break for lunch, you will study the italic hand in brief before moving on to combining both these scripts to create an abstract calligraphy artwork. Panna will provide you with a calligraphy pack, including practice sheets, to use on the day which you can take home with you. We hope your calligraphy pack and framed artwork will serve as a reminder of your day, and inspire you to keep practising your new-found lettering skills at home.
