Exploring drawing: nature at Flatford Mill

Exploring drawing: nature at Flatford Mill

About the Course

‘The basic or inherent features, character or qualities of something and the phenomena of the physical world collectively’ defines the word ‘nature’, our focus for this full day of drawing. Flatford offers us a rich mosaic of lowland landscapes stretching out from the riverbank of the Stour and the wide open skies. This open-level course is designed for those who enjoy finding ways to represent nature both faithfully and evocatively. Enjoy drawing and learning with others in this beautiful setting.

Referencing the work of Constable and others we will inform our drawing decisions and discussions as we review our drawing throughout the day. The tone of the day will be thoughtful and our time productive.

Course tutor: Jevan Watkins Jones
Jevan's teaching approach is simultaneously gentle and rigorous. He is an alumnus of the Royal Drawing School where he received First Prize for his drawings from city farms. His drawing practice ranges from sensitive and energetic studies of plants and people in the landscape to working on long term collaborative drawing projects with communities such as Facing-Recovering with injured soldiers. Jevan has a very active enjoyment of gardens, plants and the natural world. This course offers an opportunity to benefit from his two great passions.
