Tetra Pak Printing - a half-day printmaking workshop in Dorset for two people. The price is for 2 people, all materials included. Come with a friend, a work colleague, or bring a family member! Morning or afternoon sessions: 10:00 until 13:00 or 14:00 until 17:00 Available on some weekdays and some Saturdays; contact me to arrange a convenient date and time. Being creative is a really efficient way to switch off and destress. Why not treat yourself + 1 to a morning or afternoon in my Dorset studio and learn the art of printmaking using upcycled Tetra Pak cartons? This workshop is designed to be a fun, relaxed taster session. No prior knowledge of printmaking techniques is necessary. It is suitable for anyone, regardless of artistic ability. I will adapt the session to suit your pace and interests. You can sketch a landscape, a wild flower or your favourite animal. Tetra Pak prints make great birthday cards. Bring your own ideas, or I can supply plenty of inspiration here using seasonal themes. You can mount your best print on a card or take it home for framing. It's up to you! If you don't feel confident with drawing, that's no problem. This printmaking technique works really well with abstract or symmetrical patterns too and I can also supply tracing paper to make life easier! You will learn the "intaglio" method of inking your Tetra Pak plates by hand with etching ink. The pressure from my large intaglio (roller) printing press will get the best out of your designs. I will show you how to embellish your prints further with watercolour tinting. The finished results look similar to etchings in style, although Tetra Pak prints are much simpler and safer to create (no acid required) and there are more opportunities for experimentation! This workshop is for two people, simply because this is the space I have in my home studio, and it would feel cramped with a larger group. My studio is indoors and a comfortable place to be creative with your own work table. You get plenty of attention from me and there's no queueing for the press. Anyone with recent shoulder or back injuries might find my large printing press a challenge. The inking part of the workshop is messy, so dress with that in mind, and I will supply rubber gloves. What's included in the price?
All materials are provided - just turn up! Depending on your own individual working pace, you could create up to three or four Tetra Pak designs and take home several hand-inked prints from each. Drinks and homemade cake (please let me know if you have any dietary concerns). I have been teaching 2-day printmaking masterclasses in my home studio since 2014 and I reached GOLD level on craftcourses.com with 5-star reviews. I took a break from teaching in 2023 but here I am again under a different name. This time I am focusing on providing shorter half-day workshops (not just printmaking) that are more affordable and fun. My studio is comfortable for two plus me, and because of this I can offer a cosier, bespoke creative experience. I am located in a picturesque village location in Dorset and I bake a very good Dorset apple cake.

I live in a pretty village near Blandford Forum in Dorset. My home has a stunning view over fields to the woods on the horizon.
The studio is a dedicated space in my home where we can create in peace.
Tetra Pak are the packaging cartons used for milk, fruit juice and other food items. Experimental printmakers have found they can be used to create prints that look similar to etchings but without the need for acid! It's safe, fun and quick to incise your design onto the Tetra Pak surface and a good way to learn the "intaglio" inking method.
You might already be aware of lino printing, where the design is gouged out with a sharp tool and the ink is rolled over the top surface. The resulting print shows the gouged areas as un-inked paper.
Intaglio inking is the opposite. It is where the ink is rubbed into the grooves on the plate and any ink remaining on the top surface is wiped away. The resulting print shows the incised lines of your design printed onto the paper.
Intaglio inking is the method used for etchings, collagraphs and Tetra Pak printing.
I provide ALL the materials.
I provide drinks and cake (please let me know if you have dietary concerns). If you prefer to bring your own favourite t-bag, no problem! I usually have standard teas and coffee and a good supply of herbal teas.
You might like to bring a folder to take your prints home safely.
Come dressed for mess; the inks are oil-based etching inks that will not wash out! I will teach you to ink as cleanly as possible, but it's not worth spoiling a brand new top or expensive trousers, if a tiny bit strays off the inking plate!
Best to avoid an expensive manicure until after the workshop - despite the use of gloves (that I provide) some ink may get on your nails. With some olive oil rubbed in, the ink can easily be removed.
I usually make a Dorset Apple Cake that contains - amongst other things - butter, egg, flour and a little milk. This is the recipe I have been using since I learnt to bake it at 7 years of age.
I can adapt this recipe to include non-dairy margarine, non-dairy milk and gluten free flour. I have never made this cake without using egg!
