“I sometimes think that there is nothing so delightful as drawing”, Van Gogh.
If you agree with Van Gogh and are an experienced artist or count yourself as an absolute beginner, it’s worthwhile practice to spend time exploring your drawing skills.
Join Liz Wellby at The Slipper Studio in a relaxed and supportive environment, for a day of drawing. The venue is beautifully presented, with handcrafted workbenches and a wood burner, with views down into the village. The village of Carsington lies on the edge of the Peak District.
Starting with the principle that everyone can draw, you will focus on learning to look, plan your ideas and create a series of drawings. Working on different types of paper and using a range of materials, you will draw natural forms with a particular focus on their linear and pattern qualities. There will also be the opportunity to develop ‘drawings’ using fine flexible wire.
There are a choice of themes, including Natural Forms and Kitchenalia, so you decide which you would like to explore.
This creative workshop is suitable for folks who count themselves as a beginner or those who haven’t drawn for a while and may feel the need to brush up on the basics.

A very enjoyable workshop in a beautiful and inspiring studio.
Drawing with wire was a lot of fun and we made some very creative fish and “kitchenalia” based on our ink drawings. It was both a relaxed and productive day, as Liz guided us along with clear explanations of process, helpful demonstrations, and lots of encouragement.
I came away with some lovely personal decorations, and information and ideas from Liz about how I can experiment further with wire work at home.
Thank you so much Liz.

A lovely day in beautiful surroundings.
I was able to reconnect with my creative side in a relaxed and supportive environment and use techniques that I would not otherwise have tried. Back home, I'm particularly enjoying playing around with watercolour pencils following on from the day. Thank you.
Response from Liz Wellby - Artist, Teacher & Maker:Thank you for your feedback.
Great chance to re-engage with some basic drawing techniques, then progress through the day adding lovely new methods and styles, which I’m looking forward to using.
Loved the wire fish making, although it’s trickier than it looks!
Thanks Liz for encouraging and supporting, and all in the relaxing surroundings of the gorgeous Slipper Studio.
