About the Course
Learn how to safely saw, chisel, carve and sand your own Green Man wooden hanging. This two day course runs from 10am-3pm on both Saturday 18th August and Sunday 19th August - which should allow adequate time to complete your piece.
The Green Man is prominent in many ancient cultures including the Romans, Greeks, Celts and early Christians. In each, the head of a man with a mask of leaves is depicting a close relationship between humans and nature. A leaf clad statue of Dionysus in Naples, Italy dating back to 420 BC is often considered the 1st of the Green Man images and is the precursor to the leaf crowned lord of the wilderness & nature popularised in the middle ages.
With the advent of today’s environmental and green movements, this vision has been adopted as a marketing tool and is once again being recognised as an icon of the forest.
This course will provide the opportunity for you to spend time in our specially designed outdoor classroom connecting back with nature while creating your own age-old symbol of man’s relationship with nature.
