Bowl carving at Greenwood Days
Description
Green wood bowl carving is a fantastic skill to learn, it can be done anywhere, with few tools and very little space. On this course you will use a carving axe, a selection of bowl gouges/chisels, a carving knife and a spoon knife to carve your own bowl. You will be shown how to use all the tools safely and effectively from splitting your log, wood selection and safely carving with your axe. You will be shown a whole host of knife grips that will give you the skills to carry carving at home. Your tutor for this course will be Nadine Fox Grundy a very experienced full time bowl carver, spoon carver and full time green woodworker. She will bring along a selection of tools for you to try out and will talk about various designs and shapes to get you inspired for your next wood carving! On day one you will learn to use the tools safely and effectively by making a small nut bowl and then start the hollowing of our larger bowl, ready to be finished on day two. Nadine will also talk about decoration and colour on wood. She uses homemade milk paint and egg glaze as well as acrylics and oil paint/linseed oil and will talk about how to use these pigments on your own crafts. Greenwood Days have been running woodland craft courses since 1998. The course centre is set in a beautiful 90 acre wood in the National Forest on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire border. Our tutors are all highly skilled professional craft workers and teachers who share our passion for preserving, promoting and passing on these crafts and techniques.
