About the Course
This course aims to help you understand the cultural and historical context of art and develop your observational skills using drawing, annotation and photography. Once you have completed the course you’ll be able to work with a systematic structure for analysing, researching and recording information that can be applied to any art form. The course enables you to observe acutely, appreciate and analyse works of art through the study of a written text. The course is broad in its coverage of Western Art right through to 21st century but it also encourages you to look at works of art in depth and in detail. You will also keep a learning log or blog while you are studying this course.
The Open College of the Arts is a non-profit educational charity offering arts education through open and flexible distance learning methods. You will receive support from a one-to-one tutor who is also an arts practitioner and you will become part of a thriving UK and international student community.
All of our part time distance learning Open degrees are awarded by the University for the Creative Arts (UCA). We have an exceptional range of part-time Open courses at Higher Education level in painting, drawing, photography, music, illustration, graphic design, creative writing, textiles, sculpture, printmaking, art history and film.
