Contact course provider
About the Course
Over 3 separate days make a set of plates and bowls for 2 people.
If you care about food, care about what goes on your table and like things in your home that reflect your individual approach to life, this is an opportunity to make your own unique tableware from scratch. Make it for yourself or as a special gift for someone. A birthday, wedding or anniversary present with a personal touch.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with experience, this is a two person workshop so you will be able to work at your own tempo and not worry about competing for equipment or attention.
Over 2 days you will choose your clay from a selection of different clays, roll it out and form plates and bowls using a selection of moulds. When completely dry your pieces will be bisqued (fired to firm).
After a few days you will return for your third visit to decorate/ add further decoration and glaze your items. They will then be fully fired and ready for you to return and collect, or your items can be posted to you.
The emphasis will be on simple decoration to make relaxed, wabi sabi style, contemporary tableware with your own unique touch. Decoration can simply be a splash of colour, using printing stamps to press into the clay or a simple glaze to complement the clay you have chosen. Plenty of images and made pieces will be available for you to take inspiration from and you are encouraged to come with inspirations of your own.
Other dates are available to suit you by arrangement.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The workshop includes clay and the use of tools and moulds. You will also have a selection of glazes and decorating tools to choose from. Your pieces will be fired twice for you which is usually enough. Extra firings, e.g. for lustres, transfers will be charged for.
Tea, Coffee and snacks are be provided but lunch is not included. The village centre is a short distance away or you can bring lunch with you and if it's a nice day we can lunch outside.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working within Carla Sealey's Studio. I liked having the choices of clays and glazes to use so that I could make my own personal choices. I have done a course with clay before but this, a 3 day course, it was nice to start from using raw clay and end up with something finished by the third session for final firing.
It has been sociable too, getting to know the other person on the course with me, and thank Carla for her excellent guidance. In my opinion this course would suit both a single would-be Potter, a couple of friends wanting time out together, or grandparent/grandchild experience.
I look forward to signing up to a further course in the Autumn to add to my collection.

Working with clay was new to me and I really appreciated the help and advice provided by Carla. There were only 2 of us on the course and, therefore, we had far more individual attention than would have been possible in a larger class.
I had been through a very stressful time prior to the course and found the whole experience relaxing and felt recharged afterwards.
I don't think of myself as an artistic person but I ended up with lovely bowls and plates with beautiful glazes and feel encouraged to do more.
