Upholstery Workshop - learn to make and upholster a footstool - Billinge, Wigan, Lancashire

X

Description

Hello, we hope you are all well and safe.

We are delighted to announce we are now back up and running and hope you will find our workshops a welcome delight after the very difficult times we have all had.

Learn the wonderful craft of upholstery (no previous experience needed) by making and upholstering a lovely footstool from scratch in one day to take home with you whilst making some new like minded friends in a relaxed, supportive and beautiful environment.

Come along to one of our one day (10am to 3pm) fun and friendly Upholstery Workshops in the picturesque village of Billinge on the outskirts of Wigan.

Ideal for complete beginners, or for people who have dabbled in upholstery previously. You will learn the basic skills of upholstery and all about the tools and techniques required so you can continue with your own projects at home.

A small group of no more than 6, therefore you will receive one to one instruction for much of the time.

All you will need to bring is some lovely fabric to cover your footstool. You will be able to choose the style and height of your bun feet and you will paint or wax the bun feet in a colour / shade / style of your choice to complement your fabric.

I will be there every step of the way to guide you and to take you through the process at your pace. With such a small group, there is plenty of time for one to one discussion. Full workshop notes on techniques, tools and materials and where to buy will be provided.

N.B. Please note Billinge is a new venue for us, and the reviews mentioned for this course refer to exactly the same course previously held at The Centre in Poynton.

For more information or to book a place please contact Joanne via the links above.

I look forward to meeting you and to spending an enjoyable and creative day with you.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All tools, legs/feet and materials to make your footstool are provided and are included in the price except bring a 1 metre piece of your favourite fabric to cover your footstool. Should you need any guidance with this, please get in touch.

The price also includes lovely homemade cakes, cream scones, biscuits, tea and coffee throughout the day. Lunch is not included in the price so please bring some lunch with you.

Parking is available free of charge at the venue.

Please come in comfortable clothing and ideally an apron (not essential). Also comfortable shoes.

We are extremely proud of the lovely reviews we have received from people attending previous workshops. Please take a look in The Boho Shed review section.

Should you choose to join us on this workshop, I look forward to meeting you and sharing a lovely and creative day with you.

This is the Upholstery Workshop. We also run Level 1 Furniture Painting Workshop for beginners/intermediates for those of you who would like to learn some all-round skills. Please see our other 'The Boho Shed' course listings here on the Craft Courses site.

Attended the footstool upholstery workshop this weekend, small group of ladies, very nice location. Jo is a lovely teacher, giving step by step instruction as we progressed making a footstool, lots of useful advice and help. There was a wonderful afternoon tea available and refreshments on hand all day.
I would definetly reccommend one of Jo's workshops and I made a beautiful footstool which i am very proud of and look forward to doing further upholstery projects.

I attended the footstool upholstery course - the second time I have been because I enjoyed it so much! Jo is a fantastic teacher and the small number attending meant everyone could be guided individually as required. Everyone came away with a gorgeous footstool and I am now very keen to attend Jo’s furniture painting course. The venue is lovely and a plentiful supply of Jo’s homemade cakes made it a very enjoyable day indeed.

Response from The Boho Shed:

Thank you so very much for your lovely review Sue. It was really great to see you again. I’m so pleased you wanted to come again and I look forward to having more fun at a painting workshop in the future. X

I attended the footstool upholstery workshop on Saturday 24th October 2020 at Grappenhall Heys Walled Gardens in South Warrington along with two of my friends. The workshop is held in a potting shed with a kitchen and dining area attached, where you eat your lunch, or you can buy food from the on-site cafe. Tea & coffee is also supplied for you to help yourself to, along with a selection of homemade cakes.

Jo is a very friendly and attentive teacher, nothing is too much trouble. She takes you step by step through the fundamentals of upholstery, giving you the benefit of her knowledge whilst giving top tips on materials and methods. We all brought a one metre piece of material to creat the mini footstool (the cushion is approximately 25 by 30cms). We thoroughly enjoyed the day, and I would highly recommend the workshop to budding upholsterers. Thanks Jo x

Response from The Boho Shed:

Thank you so much Lindsey for your kind words. I’m delighted you all enjoyed the day.

Would highly recommend anyone take this workshop no matter what your skill level is.

Response from The Boho Shed:

Thank you so much Linda. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the workshop. What a lovely bunch you were.

I really enjoyed the recent upholstery course at Poynton. We were a small group and the atmosphere was relaxed with Jo on hand to help us all at each stage. Jo is extremely helpful, patient and knowledgable and gave us some great advice and tips to take our new found skills further. The cakes and scones were an added bonus and very much appreciated, thank you Jo’s mum! I am so pleased with my footstool which is so much better than I expected it to be. A great day. Thank you.

Response from The Boho Shed:

Thank you so much Wendy, It always makes my day to receive such a lovely review and my Mum is delighted you enjoyed her cakes. You did a lovely job of your footstool. Enjoy putting your feet up!

I thoroughly enjoyed the day at The Boho Shed in Poynton (The Centre) with Jo. It was just what I was looking for. I attended a Saturday workshop in September 2020, and was so pleased it was running. We were socially distanced as it was a small class due to Covid-19 restrictions. Jo showed us each stage of the process of upholstery clearly and empathized with any difficulties we encountered. All who attended were of a like-mind, and it was a delight to be an a relaxed environment.

I am hoping she will run other classes from Poynton soon as it was a convenient hub for me to travel to and there was dedicated free parking space outside the building. By the way, 'The Centre' is a large village hall with plenty of rooms, a separate kitchen and good toilet facilities. An all-round excellent experience. Well done Jo.

Response from The Boho Shed:

Thanks so much for your lovely review Liz. That's much appreciated. I'm delighted you enjoyed the day and it was lovely to met you. I am running workshops in Poynton ongoing this year and will be organising more dates for 2021. I hope to see you again at some point for more creativity :-).

Diane Jacques - - #29485

I attended the Footstool Upholstery Workshop at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden on 21st February (2020) along with five other ladies who were totally unknown to me. Joanne was the tutor and took us through the process of creating a footstool from scratch. Helped and guided by Joanne's clear and simple step by step instructions, we all managed to make wonderful little footstools to take home with us at the end of the day.
We got on very well and had lots of fun in the process. It was lovely to see how the fabric we had chosen gave a personality to each of the footstools. They looked amazing and we all felt very proud of ourselves when we viewed the finished items.
The workshop took place in a heated potting shed and was very pleasant, despite the inclement weather that day.
I would thoroughly recommend this workshop and, of course, Joanne, our excellent teacher.

Response from The Boho Shed:

What very kind words Diane. Thank you so much. I am so pleased you enjoyed the workshop. The footstools were all really gorgeous. Thank you for contributing to such a great day.

I have just had a great day with Joanne making a foot stool. It was a relaxed and fun way to learn a new skill. Joanne helped us all out and the low numbers on the course meant we could have attention from Joanne to make sure we had a good end product. Add to that her home made cakes and scones, good banter and a new footstool - what a great way to spend a Saturday! Thanks Joanne.

Thanks Davina, I'm so pleased you enjoyed the day and enjoyed the cakes :-). What a great bunch.
