Christine Pendlebury reviewed: Upholstery for Beginners Workshop - in Warrington, Cheshire

"Feel there were too many people for the room available. Unable to sit comfortably at the table. And limited room to work. Joanne was very accommodating, friendly and professional. I particularly liked the way she included everyone when using our work as an example for each stage. Uncomfortable that one person had a chronic cough which was worrying which I understand was difficult to do anything about"

The Boho Shed responded:

"Thank you for your feedback Christine which I will definitely take on board. Although the room is set up for ten people, a appreciate you were at the bottom end where people were passing to collect paint, bun feet etc. I will consider moving these items to a different area in future. In any case thank you for your kind words regarding the teaching of the workshop. "

Saif reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Warrington, Cheshire (1 Day)

"I did the Beginner’s DIY course today with Jo, and as a complete novice it was pitched perfectly to my level. There are plenty of small jobs around the house I’ve always thought most people could do, and now I feel confident I can tackle them myself. I really enjoyed the hands-on approach, using drills, putting up shelves, wiring plugs, and more. Jo is a fantastic teacher, she is clearly passionate about empowering people with practical skills. The cakes were also super tasty! I’d thoroughly recommend this course to anyone new to DIY. Thanks Jo!"

The Boho Shed responded:

"You were an absolute pleasure to teach Saif. Thank you for your glowing review and kind words, I'm delighted you now feel more confident in tackling those jobs you've been wanting to do in your home. I will pass on your lovely comments about the cakes to my Mum the baker. :-)"

Sue Rogan reviewed: Upholstery for Beginners Workshop - in Warrington, Cheshire

"What an amazing day - I was a little apprehensive prior to arrival but with the excellent teaching, patience & guidance of the wonderful Jo, I was absolutely thrilled that by the end of the workshop I managed to create a lovely footstool. The added bonus is an opportunity to meet & spend an enjoyable time with a group of fellow, like-minded 'apprentices' Jo walks you through all aspects of upholstery such as tools, equipment, fastenings, foam, fabrics etc. which is so helpful in being able to work effectively. For anyone wanting to give this a try I would highly recommend it - my secret passion has been ignited🥰 "

The Boho Shed responded:

Iain reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Liked the range of jobs to have a go at and info on kit. The chance to try new tools and techniques without any pressure or worry about getting it wrong. Even though I've done bits for years I wasn't that confident in some areas. Since doing the day I have realised that I can practice small jobs at home so that I can do bigger projects with confidence. I can get a block and screw things into it to practice but I never thought to do that (and I've been using a drill for years), or to try a new filler in between a corner of wood to see how it acts before doing the actual job. Nice folk & great cakes!"

The Boho Shed responded:

"It's all about having a go, practice and building confidence without the worry of getting it wrong, it's how we learn isn't it. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the range of topics covered, trying different tools and techniques, and of course the cakes. :-) Thanks for your lovely review Iain."

Paula reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Excellent day of learning and trying common DIY tasks. In 5 hours we learnt about wall fixings, tools, electrics, fillers, paint prep, bleeding a radiator, even hung a small shelf... Give the great range of topics it's only possible to do a little in each. But we felt that was the point. READ THE DESCRIPTION is important. If you want to know how to build a pergola this course isn't it - and that's the point. The small tips on many things that we've been doing for ages, hands on with tools with someone watching you and can say "try it like this". And voila! Improvement cos no-one ever told us that. Not all of us had parents or schools were these things were taught so we pick bits up gradually, or not. But confidence takes time to build and that is one of the best outcomes of this day. What we might now tackle, what tools and bits we REALLY need, and as always what to leave to a professional. Small group of supportive, friendly folk with a range of experience in different bits, and no experience in many ;o)"

The Boho Shed responded:

"Thank you for your lovely review Paula, you were a pleasure to teach. I'm so pleased you left the workshop with increased confidence around all the different techniques we covered and I hope the notes and tools list provided will help to support you with you ongoing DIY projects. Give me a shout any time."

Lisa Smith reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Excellent workshop where I picked up lots of tips and got the chance to practice techniques I will need in some DIY projects I am planning. I have been holding off from completing projects due to lack of confidence/knowledge/experience, but came away from the workshop buzzing with confidence and excited to get all those jobs started - and finished! Thanks Jo and all the others on the course, who each had their own experiences and tips to offer. It was lovely to spend the day with such a friendly bunch of people and to relax and have a laugh whilst learning."

The Boho Shed responded:

"Thank you for your lovely review of the workshop Lisa. I'm so pleased you were buzzing with confidence after the day, that is my main objective for everyone and I'm delighted you had some fun whilst learning. Give me a shout if you need any further assistance, I'd be happy to help."

Sahil K reviewed: Beginners DIY & Home Maintenance Workshop in Preston, Lancashire (1 Day)

"Hey everyone, I can't lie here and my experience of this DIY course led by Jo was also the same as someone else on the course. This course is NOT worth £170. It's an absolute rip-off and scam. Whatever is "taught" on the day is stuff we already know and can easily YouTube. Save your money and put it towards something else. Think about it. 5 hours for £170?! She doesn't even cover all of the material. It's barely practical. She doesn't even have all the resources. There's no proper structure to the day and she wings most of it. She's done a bit of DIY around her house but it doesn't qualify her to teach or even charge such a ridiculous amount. Buy yourself a set of tools, get some planks of wood and practice in your own homes. Throughout the day, we repeatedly had to finish her sentences because she didn't know what she was talking about and she repeatedly said "she's not expert and asked the other attendees for help". The lady next to me knew more than her. This is an honest review. I don't mean to be disrespectful but this review is to ensure no one else wastes that amount of money for a course led by someone who doesn't know what she's talking about."

The Boho Shed responded:

"I feel very sad and disappointed to read that my workshop did not meet the expectations of this young man and that he felt the need to leave such a strongly worded negative review. My aim with every workshop is for participants to feel welcomed, supported, and to leave with increased knowledge, confidence and the inspiration to take on their own DIY projects at home with my ongoing support if required, in addition to creating a friendly and relaxed learning environment to ensure each participant enjoys the day as much as possible. Thus I am delighted to have received 100% 5 star reviews relating to the content, teaching style and overall experience from all other participants attending and choosing to leave a review, not only for this particular course on the same day but for all the other courses I provide across all the venues at which I teach. With over 25 years of professional property renovation experience and having taught my creative workshops for almost 8 years, I have carefully structured this course to provide clear explanations and demonstrations with full hands on and practical exercises for attendees throughout the day, together with the provision of detailed printed notes and diagrams for them to take home with them on completion of the course. I always encourage participants to ask as many questions as possible throughout the day and to share ideas with each other both during and after the workshop to ensure everyone achieves as much knowledge and confidence as possible from the course. I welcome constructive feedback to enable me to continually mould and improve my courses to suit my participants’ needs to the max, however it is important that this is done kindly and considerately. On this occasion, the way dissatisfaction was expressed during the day together with the late arrival of this young man and an exit before the course was completed unfortunately affected the atmosphere for other participants who were otherwise enjoying their day. I do hope you learned at least some DIY from the course Sahil and I hope the printed handout notes you took home with you will be of some help to you ongoing. In any case I wish you well on your DIY journey. "
