This workshop is suitable for those of you that have some experience of free-motion machine embroidery and also basic hand embroidery. If you have never tried this technique before I would recommend starting with my ‘Introduction to free motion machine embroidery’ workshop before attempting.
I will teach you how to put together the background for your abstract coastal piece. The idea is not to create a scene, but a feeling of the coast and the movement of water over-sand.
I will show you how to use an embellishing machine to distress and manipulate certain fabrics, and you will then be able to try this yourself.
We will finish the day by making some wrapped cords that you can add to your work to represent seaweed-covered ropes.
You will spend the day adding detail to your piece. There will be a large selection of embellishments available including buttons, beads and coastal finds. I will help you with selection and placement to create balance in your work. Stitchwork will be a combination of free-motion embroidery and hand embroidery. This workshop has been designed to be completed within the two days available.
ALL MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED
The size of your finished piece will be approximately 8” x 8”
The piece you create will be designed to have the rough edges on show, and I would recommend getting it to float mounted and framed once it is finished.
