Horatio Hawes reviewed: Hand forged rustic knife course

"A great experience! Andy is very knowledgeable in the area and great at explaining and demonstrating the techniques. Getting to take home a knife you made yourself at the end of the day is a great souvenir and good to show off your experience. The small class size helped keep the focus on individual skill improvements and helped everyone feel like they got time to get help. Would definitely go to another one of these classes!"

Helen Prout reviewed: Stained glass taster day in Worcestershire

"Prior to attending the workshop with Vicky I had done 3 stained glass/copper foiling workshops in 3 different venues with 3 different tutors. While I’d had mixed experiences, I knew I wanted to do more so couldn’t believe my luck when I found someone offering workshops conveniently located less than 30 mins away from me. I wasn’t sure whether I’d be the only attendee or part of a larger class but was pretty chuffed to discover it was just me and Vicky. I’d taken some printouts of ideas I had for what I wanted to do but seeing the templates Vicky had available I decided to do a square panel which Vicky said we could put a lead border around, as well as a curved heart. I had a fantastic day with plenty of time available for planning/drawing out the design, choosing, cutting and grinding the glass, copper foiling then soldering my 8” panel and heart, then putting the lead border around my 8” square Lunch was a rather tasty vegetable chilli, served with salad, rice and garlic bread followed by chocolate cake. Vicky is an excellent teacher; she has a wealth of knowledge and experience which she is more than happy to share and allows you to decide for yourself what you want to create. The workshop was scheduled to finish at 4.30 but it was 6pm when I left – there was no rushing me to get my pieces finished, or sending me away with pieces that were unfinished. I had a brilliant time and will be booking another workshop very soon. Thank you Vicky. "

Kingcot Gallery responded:

"Dear Helen, thank you so much for your fabulous review, it is appreciated. I do think that knowledge is there to pass on and encourage people to try new crafts or enhance what is already there. I look forward to passing more on in the future!"

Peta reviewed: Day classes in traditional blacksmithing ... make an item to take away

"My husband and I had a fantastic day with Rudi. It was so much fun to learn blacksmithing techniques and to make something we could take home. I had a bit of marble worktop lying around which I wanted to turn into a plantpot stand and Rudi helped me come up with a brilliant design and while I attempted the legs, he kindly made a frame for them and welded it all together at the end. My husband made a manly marshmallow toaster and also had a fabulous day. Rudi is exceptionally patient, helpful, kind, friendly, enthusiastic and a great artist. We had a lovely day and I have been recommending this course to everyone I've spoken to. :-) If we ever decide we want a ironwork object for our house in future, we would definitely see if we could go back and make it together with Rudi (if he would have us!) :-). "It's difficult to add much to what has already been said about Chris and his teaching style. I felt fully engaged all day never being left with a question unanswered. Of course I left with a couple of dubiously crafted items that Chris was very polite about... Thanks Chris, I heartily recommend this day."

Heather Haydock reviewed: Upholstery for Beginners Workshop - in Warrington, Cheshire

"I really enjoyed the Beginners Upholstery Workshop. Jo is a lovely lady and very talented, keen to share her knowledge, she helped everyone individually and as a group. It was interesting to learn about all the materials needed for the footstool. Drinks and cakes were provided and I particularly appreciated that they were made dairy free when I mentioned my dietary requirements in advance of the course. Jo's friendliness helped to make it an enjoyable sociable day and I was very pleased and proud of my completed footstool!"

Jon McGurk reviewed: Chair making course at Sallerton Wood

"Wonderful course with an excellent tutor, which offered this complete novice the chance to start with logs of ash wood and finish with a proper chair. Andy is marvellous whether you get the hang of something straight away or are struggling, his patience is as limitless as his knowledge. I would heartily recommend this course to anyone from complete beginners to those with existing skills. The woodland is a little bit of heaven in the Devon countryside, the pizzas weren't bad either! Many thanks and I hope to be back for another course next year."

Sallerton Wood responded:

"Thanks, Jon, for taking the time to write that kind review. We're really pleased that you enjoyed the course, and the woodland environment in which it took place. We're also pleased that you enjoyed the pizzas made in the wood-fired clay oven in the kitchen shelter. It was good to have you on the course, and we look forward to seeing you next year if you manage to get along to do another course. In the meantime, enjoy your lovely chair. "

Tom reviewed: Five day woodwork course - tools

"The 5 day woodworking course served as an excellent introduction to woodworking for novice to the skill. I haven't done any woodworking previously but by the end of the course felt happy enough to start constructing a small workshop in my garage ready to start a new hobby! The tutors were excellent and very patient, providing good tutorials on how to use tools and then giving you enough space to learn and use the skills. For anyone new to the hobby or looking to learn a new skill I would thoroughly recommend this course, hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did!"
