Description
Join Carol Scicluna - needle felt artist, tutor and felt maker for an exciting day of creativity, learning and laughter! No previous experience is necessary, and this day is perfect for those who want to develop a new skill or just spend a rewarding day creating something colourful and unique for themselves. You will learn all the fundamentals of wet felting to create a beautiful unique 3D handbag in just one day. You will be given help to design and decorate your bag by blending beautiful art yarns with soft wool fibre and then learn the ‘magical’ processes of ‘felting and fulling’ to shape your bag into a useful handcrafted item of professional quality that you can be proud to have made. Wet felting, especially using this design model, is very therapeutic and mindful. A day where you can use your imagination and lose yourself in the activity as well as enjoy the relaxed or lively conversation of likeminded individuals. After a restorative break for lunch, your hands will move from the design stage onto the physical activity of felting and fulling the wool so that it becomes dense, strong and durable. This stage is quite an energetic one, but good fun too. There will be a break for tea/coffee and cake or biscuits during the afternoon stage. You will be working mostly at worktop height, which will require you to be able to stand for most of the day. There will be chairs available for you to ‘take the weight off’ if you need to, now and again, but do please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You will be working in a light and airy room and have access to a large garden, where you can relax and eat your lunch if you wish to. Please bring your own lunch. Please note there is a small friendly dog on the premises who, after saying hello, will settle down and probably ignore you until lunch or cake is around! Any questions please do get in touch. Please note - although the property has wheelchair access this workshop requires participants to stand for most of the day so is unsuitable to those who cannot manage to do that. Come and have a fun day creating something extra special that is sure to become one of your favourite accessories. Whichever workshop you come to, I hope we will become ‘Felted Friends’. Spaces are limited to 4 or 6 participants, but other dates will be become available if you wish to book as a group in future. Please note if minimum of 4 places are not filled then the workshop may not go ahead and you will be offered another date.

Maker
I have been a needle felt artist and tutor for over 6 years creating 3D wool sculptures and 2D dog portraits. I regularly teach at Farnham Maltings and also in Hampshire Cultural Trust's beautiful old buildings, specifically for wellbeing groups I have recently started teaching feltmaking and fell in love with felting on a ball taught by the wonderful Natasha Smart down in Devon. I live in the beautiful Hampshire countryside and most of my 'felted friends' are inspired by the natural world in and around my garden. I am passionate about these therapeutic crafts and love to share itheir creativeness. Whatever subject you learn with me I hope we will become 'Felted Friends'.
