About the Course
The current course runs across 9 weeks in 2.5 hour sessions. There are 5 time slots - Tuesday am 9.30 - 12.30; Tuesday pm 12.30 - 3.00, Tuesday pm 7.00 - 9.00 and Wednesday am 9.30 - 12.00, Wednesday pm 12.30 - 3.00.
Dates for the first block of 2018 courses are as follows:
Every Tuesday and Wednesday commencing January 16th and 17th with the final week March 27th and 28th. Half term will be February 20th and 21st when there will be no class.
The course is taught by Jan and Angela; both are City and Guilds qualified and have previously taught upholstery and sewing for Kirklees College.
Students work in small groups of mixed abilities and ages. New students are encouraged to begin with a small item of furniture such as a drop in seat, a small footstool, or even a headboard. All equipment is available to use, but students are welcome to bring their own tools if they prefer.
Advice and teaching is very hands on and practical and students will learn at their own pace in a friendly and fun environment. Students with no experience are welcome and will be taught the basic skills required to progress to a complete upholstery project. Students with some experience and a desire to refine skills or learn new techniques are equally welcome.
Both modern and traditional techniques can be learnt.
The course is currently located in Almondbury, a couple of miles from Huddersfield.
Individual or small group lessons can be booked at different times including evenings and weekends, and the content and level of the tuition can be tailored to particular needs.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

As much as I learn loads on this course, I consider it a great social as well. I love watching Jan and Angela thrash out solutions to new upholstery challenges; each project is treated as unique and the answers are never left uncovered. They 're both tremendous teachers, work at a fierce pace (if that's what you want), and correction is communicated in a sympathetic manner. It's also lovely to talk to other participants about their projects and everyone is more than happy to share. I can't recommend highly enough.
