Afternoon Upholstery classes - traditional and modern - Romsey, Hampshire
Description
The spring term classes are now fully booked. Please send me a message if you would like to know about any vacancies that might crop up. Thanks ever so. Pippa Learn how to re-upholster your chair or stool with a 10 week course of classes - Wednesday (currently full but a waiting list is being taken), or Thursday afternoons (4.45pm-6.45pm). Great for total beginners or those who have upholstered before. About the classes Your tutor Pippa at Pippa Clare Upholstery will introduce you to this wonderful craft. The classes are suitable for those with some experience, as well as complete beginners and because you will work on your own chosen project, you will learn at your own pace with expert guidance. During the course each seat will be stripped, re-webbed and stuffed with traditional or modern materials, completed with your top cover fabric and trimmed. More advanced techniques for improvers can include lashing springs, buttoning, or working with a sprung unit seat base. Depending on your project you may learn how to stretch and fix webbing in place using a webbing stretcher, the first and second stuffing of the seat, specialist upholstery work such as stitching using double-ended and curved needles and deep or float buttoning. You are most welcome to see what other students are working on in class (suitably socially distanced at the moment). Great pieces suitable for beginners include a drop in seat or stuff over dining chair, or a stool. For improvers projects might include a sprung dining chair, or a small armchair. We have had a fantastic range over the years from tiny footstools to headboards, modern chaise longue and Edwardian sofas. It depends on what you can fit in your car to bring to class! There is a good range of upholstery materials and sundries that you can purchase from me, such as tacks, webbing, hessian, stuffings, wadding and calico. Group sizes are kept intentionally small with a maximum of eight. All you will need to bring to the classes will be yourself, your project and, if possible, a few basic tools. There is a large toolbox available with lots of interesting bits and bobs, as well as the more standard beginner's range of upholstery equipment. (Half term - Wednesdays - no class on 14th Feb, Thursdays no class on 15th Feb).
