Pottery workshops in York.
After graduating from Sunderland University with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics & gaining a teaching qualification, Catherine regularly teaches both beginners & intermediate in throwing on the wheel & hand-building. She works from her Studio at home, making both Ceramic animals, that are raku or smoke fired, or playful slipware Pottery, that is both fun & practical.
If you choose a throwing session we will start off with cylinders & bowl shapes & if you would like more sessions, eventually build up to plates & teapots, but sessions can be tailored to individual requirements.
Lessons includes clay, slips, glazes & kiln firings. Once fired, work can be picked up in the next 2-3 weeks, or posted for an extra charge.
Please note I only have one wheel, but if 2 or more people come, they take it in turns, whilst the other one hand-builds & it means I can give that person my undivided attention.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All equipment provided, but bring an apron & cold drinks & packed lunch if studying from longer session.
Tea & coffee will be provided.

I had a fantastic morning with Catherine teaching me the rudiments of clay building. Much to my surprise I was able to create both a vase and soap dish. Catherine is immensely knowledgeable and an encouraging teacher.
Can highly recommend a course with Catherine, we've had a wonderful morning learning how to use the potters wheel (Catherine, you make it look so easy) and to make our own little animals - can't wait to see how the hedgehog, chicken and french bulldog look after firing. An excellent tutor, an excellent course. Thank you so much, Sandi, Pat and Elaine
Myself and my boyfriend spent the day with Catherine at her beautiful studio last month. We each got to produce a range of thrown and coiled pieces, learning about the techniques and styles of decoration available to us. Catherine was a patient teacher and helped us to achieve so much more than we had hoped for from the day. Our pieces were then expertly packaged and shipped home to us in London. We would definitely recommend her course to novices wanting a fun days exploration of clay, or for pros who'd like to practice with a knowledgeable teacher in a welcoming environment. Thank you Catherine!
Thanks, Catherine, for a brilliant couple of hours. We had no idea what to expect and to be able to throw a couple of pots and make something with out hands too was great. You have the patience of a Saint and we can't thank you enough for making it such a wonderful mother and daughter experience.

Thanks Catherine for a wonderful day. We had real fun on the wheel and it was a brilliant introduction to working with clay. We would highly recommend your courses to anyone who is interested.
Had an awesome time.
Such a lovely teacher and everything was perfectly explained. I felt really accomplished at the end of the session.
I wanted to have a go at both throwing and hand building pottery but I live a hectic life and cannot always commit to a class on a set day and time every week. I love the flexibility that I enjoy with Catherine. She fits me when I can come along and her easy going approach suits me perfectly. I felt immediately at home in her studio. I love the fact that every piece doesn't have to be perfect. I learn as I go but it doesn't matter if it goes wrong. It is a lot of fun! I have so much to learn but feel I can learn in a cosy and safe environment, at my own pace and in my own time. I never want the sessions to end.
Catherine has been teaching me for quite a while, all the different methods on the wheel. Very kind. An excellent tutor.
Catherine kindly took me for a course at very short notice.
She patiently and professionally taught me the principles of pot throwing.
I came away with my head buzzing, full of inspiration and confidence to continue with my potting.
I look forward to being able to go again.
very friendly and confident potter.
good techniques.
only disappointment was that pots and vases turned out to be smaller and duller than our expectations.
however, brilliant experience.
I had a couple of great lessons. Catherine is a really good and patient teacher, I have never done any throwing before and with her help was able to make some mugs on the wheel and learn some of the principles of throwing and turning. Her workshop is very well set up and I'd reccommend this to anyone who wants to learn ceramics/pottery.
