Booked this back in March as a birthday present for my husband. Lockdown meant we had to postpone it but it was well worth the wait. Jack is an excellent tutor, friendly and informative. There were five of us on the course, all spread out to meet social distancing guidelines. We each produced three pots during a very absorbing and enjoyable afternoon. We'd recommend it without hesitation!
We absolutely loved our taster course and found Jack to be an interesting and patient instructor. He clearly has a passion for what he does which translates to the experience he provides.
Along with a friend I attended the taster pottery throwing session. Neither of us had any experience of 'things pottery', other than at school over 50 years ago! Jack made us welcome and reassured us that zero knowledge did not mean disaster; far from it! Both of us were delighted with the end results that would not have been achieved without the patience, guidance and assistance of Jack. Instructions were clear and well demonstrated before we were let loose on a potter's wheel. The session was relaxed along with tea/coffee and chocolate brownies, what more could you ask for.
We left having made three 'pots', which are to be collected in a few weeks, with a sense of self-satisfaction and achievement that we did not know we had, but Jack showed us what was possible for the absolute beginner. We highly recommend this course because of Jack's friendly, encouraging, knowledge of pottery and his ability to bring out the 'inner potter'.
Thoroughly enjoyed my Taster Session and only wish I could do more - but it is so popular and fully booked. Jack is a natural teacher.
Booked a taster class for myself and fiancée as a Christmas present as we had been talking about doing something like this for many years.
Jack has a great approach to teaching and creates an awesome learning environment, we enjoyed every moment and we’re excited to see our pieces forming shape in no time at all.
Each pot after the first got better as you get more comfortable with your new found skills.
We are coming back for more, that’s for sure!
Highly recommend giving this a pop.
We had a lovely taster session at Loam Pottery. The afternoon surpassed our expectations! When Jack showed us the goal for the class (a small pot) we all scoffed at being able to produce anything like that... but with Jack's expert guidance, we all produced 3 pots that we could be proud of. Jack is very skilled at teaching the use of the potters wheel and by the third pot, we almost felt like we had completed the final piece completely independently. Thank you, Jack!
I booked a morning taster with my friend Jackie, this was a first time for the both of us and we were hooked! Jack was a great teacher and had lots of patience for us newbies, he was also very subtle at making slight corrections to our pieces on the wheel so that we had some lovely pieces at the end. Can't wait to receive them soon! Thanks Jack! Hopefully we will be back again soon for a longer course!
I had wanted to try pottery throwing for years, and the taster session I went to exceeded my expectations! Jack is very friendly, and a great instructor, very encouraging and importantly he makes it a really fun and relaxing experience. A fantastic way to escape our busy lives and focus on something creative and very satisfying. Also the location must be mentioned - the converted barn is beautifully done, light and spacious. And the location in the beautiful South Downs makes this an experience not to be missed!
My wife and I attended the afternoon beginners course. It was a really enjoyable afternoon. Jack the instructor was very personable and helpful.
He gave us all the training and support we needed and made it a fun experience.
I would definitely recommend!
We organised a taster course for a friends 30th Birthday and we loved it! Jack was very welcoming, friendly and patient!! Excellent teacher and I hope to be back soon!
My husband and I had a wonderful lesson with Jack. The setting is spectacular and all the equipment is provided. Jack is an excellent teacher and explained everything as we went along. Even after I had managed to stick my thumb into my spinning pot he just lent over and magiced it back together for me! We would highly recommend this course to anyone. Thank you Jack!
Excellent day with family doing a taster pottery session at Loam. I will highly recommend this day to anyone wanting a similar experience. Thanks Jack!
We got the taster session for a friend as a birthday present and we all enjoyed it very much and had such a nice afternoon. It was a really nice, relaxed atmosphere and Jack was so helpful and managed to correct even our wobbliest pots. He managed, don't ask me how, to have an eye on all of us and make us all feel like we can master the wheel. I would definitely recommend the taster course and I'm sure if you move on the the longer courses they will be just as great.
A fantastic course, thanks so much Jack! I booked the course for me and my friend and we both had a really enjoyable time - Jack was lovely to talk to and a fab teacher. I think the course is great value for money, as a lot can be accomplished in the time even if you are a beginner. Excited to see our finished pots in a few weeks!
What an amazing course! Jack was very welcoming and friendly from the beginning to us all. He was there when I needed the guidance and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone. Looking for a taster in pottery? - look no further! Very excited to get my three pots in a few weeks!
Lovely venue, beautiful studio and Jack is an excellent, knowledgeable and patient teacher! Two friends and I did the 2.5 hour course for my birthday and we all had an amazing time, learned a lot, and had a laugh at the same time! Jack even provided snacks and hot drinks, and gave us all individual coaching. I loved it so much I am hoping to come back and do either the 2 day or the 10 week course. Thank you so much Jack!
My husband booked me up a morning taster session to try out pottery throwing for the first time.
I absolutely loved it, what a great location to start with and just a brilliant enjoyable morning. Jack makes you feel comfortable from the start and helps you achieve a recognisable pot by the end.
I am booking up a 10 week course and so looking forward to it. Thank you.
A wonderful introduction to throwing a pot!
The setting is easy to find, lots of parking and beautiful inside. It's a light and airy studio with excellent facilities.
Jack has a fantastic teaching style and is obviously a very skilled potter. He took great care to explain the process and then was always on hand, with tremendous encouragement and calmness, to help when required. It is also great value for £50, with my three little pots sent on to me after firing for a small p&p fee.
I really enjoyed this taster morning and would actively encourage anyone who fancies having a go to book with Jack.
I only wish I lived closer, I'd join a ten week course in a flash!
My partner and I did the private pottery throwing lesson and would 10 out of 10 recommend. Jack is incredibly hands on, patient and his style of teaching is really easy to follow. The only downside is that it went too quickly! We could have happily spent all day in the studio. Having said that we’re both so happy to have left with 3 pots each that we love which is only thanks to Jack. Will definitely be returning to do the 10 week course.
Fabulous workshop! We both enjoyed learning a new skill and were chuffed with what we achieved with Jack’s guidance. Jack is a great teacher and we would love to return and do some more at some point. Many thanks
My husband and I were given the 2.5 hours pottery throwing vouchers by our son as a surprise '0' birthday present each combined with a wedding anniversary present. We didn't know what to expect and the afternoon being a surprise, we had no advance expectations. Jack was very welcoming (with ample cups of tea and coffee and a plate of chocolate brownies he couldn't go wrong) and explained the various stages of making a pot which we promptly forgot, but we relaxed during the process of moulding the clay which we found very therapeutic.
Jack then calmly took us through the process again as we made our first of three pots each which turned out better than we'd expected. Pot No.2 turned out better for me than the first so by the time I got to pot No. 3 I was feeling rather cocky and it was only Jack's miracle work proving what an expert he is, that saved it from disaster. He was very encouraging throughout, so although each of our pot shapes were completely unplanned, by the end of our session we'd had a great time and felt very pleased with ourselves.
I thoroughly enjoyed my taster pottery session with Jack. It was really relaxing and thanks to his calm teaching I was really chuffed with the three pots that I made. Very much looking forward to starting the 10 week course!
We had a fantastic session with Jack who was an excellent teacher. I would definitely recommend this course for a fun and creative afternoon.
Booked the 2.5 hour lesson for myself and a friend as it sounded like a fun thing to do. We were right. Jack was exceptionally welcoming and really friendly. Making the pots sounded complex and complicated, I needed more help than my friend did! I need not have worried. Having Jack there to help and physically lend a hand to stop my wobbly pot from turning into a wreck was essential. At one stage my clay flew off the wheel and nearly hit poor Jack. (Sorry Jack!). His instructions are good and detailed, but I must have lost concentration and disaster struck on pot 3. Jack soon rectified the situation and got me back on track. The lesson started and finished exactly on time, you got what you paid for. Lovely refreshments and brownies too. Easy to find location, parking no problem. If you are considering this course, I'd encourage you to go for it. Have yet to collect our work, but we were both impressed by what we created on the day and are looking forward to seeing the finished articles. Thank you
Lucy and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2.5 hr course and were very surprised and pleased with our 3 pots which turned out much better than we had thought they would!
This was due of course to our brilliant teacher, Jack, he was excellent at explaining what we had to do, patient and encouraging. Of course our natural talent played a part too!!
We are looking forward to collecting our finished products!
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to try something new especially if like me, you were surprised at your results!! Thanks Jack!
We booked an afternoon taster for 4 as a birthday present for a friend and all I can say is we had a great time! We were all complete beginner's and never trying anything like this before, but under Jack's excellent guidance and tuition we all turned out some amazing pots to be proud of. It was a lovely location, a light and airy studio and we were made to feel so welcome with drinks and sweet treats. We are looking into doing the two day weekend course in the future. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Had a really enjoyable morning. I was a total beginner. Jack was patient and his instructions and advice were very calm and clear. He was always close by to help when things went wrong, which was not too often! Watching a pot rise before my eyes was a very satisfying experience. I am looking forward to seeing my pots glazed and finished. Will certainly do more as I enjoyed it so much. Thank you Jack and thank you Laura who gave me the course as a present.
We had such a great morning. Beautiful, calm setting. Fantastic, clear guidance through the whole process by Jack. Excellent refreshments. Couldn’t ask for more. Many thanks
I did an afternoon taster session and am a complete beginner, having never used a potter’s wheel before. Jack is a great instructor and patiently helped throughout. I managed to throw three reasonable looking pots and would definitely try this again, something completely different! The studio itself is in a lovely location and the home made brownies were delicious.
I booked an afternoon taster as I wanted to have a go at using a pottery wheel. I am very much a beginner but I found an excellent tutor in Jack. He was friendly, knowledgeable and both attentive and calm during the session. I was delighted to make three pots (a little wobbly) and am thinking about returning at some point for the ten week course.
I would definitely recommend!
