This 2-day course will take you through the essential methods of making a clay maquette which will be a finished small sculpture in its own right, or can be used as a working model for a larger piece.
You will begin with a brief introduction giving an overview of tools and techniques, and then we will take a short walk in the beautiful landscape of Llyn Clywedog, gathering inspiration and materials to take back and use in the construction of your maquette.
We will then construct our maquette indoors, with expert tuition and advice from your tutor, Glenn Morris. Glenn has an immense enthusiasm and knowledge of sculpture which makes the courses really interesting. This is the ideal course for an introduction to maquette making and once you have completed this, you can further develop your skills in Glenn's Stone Carving courses at Clywedog.
All of the sculptors we know and love have used maquettes in the development of their finished pieces - look up inspirational pieces by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. The pictures show the making of metal-framed armatures and some small bronze castings by Glenn.
Come and learn this absorbing process amidst the inspirational and beautiful surroundings of Llyn Clywedog, Mid-Wales. This course is held both indoors and outdoors with social distancing measures in place. Our buildings have disabled access and we have adaptable equipment.
