Brilliant day. Neither of us had thrown pots before. Richard explained everything simply and clearly. We were totally engrossed in the process and the morning flew by. Playing with the clay in the afteronn was also great. Making coil pots took me back to my school days. Cant wait to return to glaze our creations.
Response from Potterydayz:Thanks guys- see you soon for glazing
Beginners luck. I have wanted to try pottery for quite some time and I'm lucky I came across Richard. Especially with this pandemic he was very careful, with social distancing and lots of sanitizer, while still being able to teach me how to throw clay. I managed to make two well centred pots in a two hour session. Would definitely go again.
Response from Potterydayz:Well done Rebecca, I look forward to seeing you again. Richard
Birthday present: I was apprehensive walking in but needn’t have worried. There were plenty of sanitizers and sat within the 2 metre distance.
Had a great day with Richard teaching us how to throw a pot on the wheel. Made 3 pots and a vase. Looking forward to going back for the next process.
Response from Potterydayz:Well done Angela, and many thanks for the review, see you again soon.
I just wanted to say what a great Pottery day we had with Richard ealier this month. Both I and my wife Ann are relative novices, but Richard's teaching methods, manner and obvious love of pottery was inspiring, and we improved so much in the hours we spent with him. We're both very keen to return, and I understand that Raku sessions are also available, which would be amazing.
Many thanks to Richard - a lovely, patient man, with years of experience and skills to share (he also makes great soup!)
Peter and Ann (Irthlingborough, Northants)
Response from Potterydayz:Hi Peter and Ann,
Excellent experience of potting thanks to Richard. Very personal tuition, showing us step by techniques. Enabling us to create ceramics pots from the wheel and hand building. We were so pleased with what we learnt and made during the session. All topped off with a delicious homemade soup. We will definitely be booking again.
I really enjoyed my day with Richard, what an excellent teacher - showing real detail about how to actually use your hands and your body to get the clay doing what you want. I'm looking forward to having another go.
I ended up with 2 'pots' from the wheel and 2 handmade. Richard gave me the instruction I needed and then gave me the space to try it out for myself, patiently giving me yet another new start until I got it right. Great achievement as far as I was concerned - my 2nd pot was quite delightful! Thank you for a satisfying day.
Response from Potterydayz:It was a pleasure to see you here at Potterydayz Rowena, I am happy that you enjoyed your day. See you again soon I hope. Happy New Year
Brilliant workshop with Richard! My daughter was absolutely thrilled to use the pottery wheel for the first time and with Richard's guidance we have made beautiful pieces of pottery. Can't wait to go back for a glazing session! Definitely recommend the course as a family adventure or individual experience.
Had an excellent day in November on one of Richard's all day courses, throwing pots in the morning and hand sculpting in the afternoon. Richard is a great relaxed teacher...we made a lot of messes! But he just kept encouraging and showing us and we managed to throw pots we were happy to have fired. Can thoroughly recommend this..one of us is quite creative, the other not so much but both of us enjoyed it so much and was lovely to do something together.
Response from Potterydayz:Delighted you enjoyed your time here at Potterydayz, hope to see you again in the near future.
We set up a session for our three children ages 12, 16 and 19. They had a blast. Richard is a wonderful instructor. He’s encouraging, patient and witty.
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you for the review- it was a great pleasure to have you over at potterydayz and I look forward to having you back for glazing soon
I had a voucher bought for me from my husband. I had not done pottery since school (32 years ago ). I went along to Richard’s a few weeks ago and had a great day throwing pots and hand building. Richard is an excellent, patient teacher and made it a fun day.
I would highly recommend this course and will be returning myself
Thank you Richard
Booked a day with Richard for my husbands Birthday. Wasn’t really sure what to expect.
Richard made us feel very welcome and was very helpful (with me) as this was my first time making coil pots.
We had a lovely lunch which Richard had made for us from his own home grown veg and some yummy bread. After lunch we moved on to the potters wheel. My husband really enjoyed this part as he knew what to do .... me on the other hand needed more help (which Richard provided). We both had a really enjoyable day with some laughs ‘thrown’ in along the way.
Thank you Richard
Had an amazing day! Richard is a great teacher! I learnt so much whilst having a fun time. I shall definitely be back to learn more techniques soon!
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you for the review Cody it was a pleasure to teach you. Delighted you enjoyed your time with Potterydayz. Look forward to seeing you soon
What an absolutely fabulous day! My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our potting course with Richard, he was patient, funny and a cracking teacher. We would highly recommend this course and we will be back again for more in May!
Response from Potterydayz:That's great Yvonne and delighted you enjoyed the day. I look forward to seeing you in May.
Saturday 28th September
Our 'clayday' with Richard was fantastic. He took us (daughter and I) through the process of throwing a pot on the wheel and watched and coached while I attempted to remember what he had said and what I had done 60 years ago!!! In the afternoon he showed us how to make a pot with clay 'sausages' which I was none too good at rolling! It is always good to leave a course feeling pleased that you have made something unique. I can't wait to go back to decorate my pots.
If you are looking for a fun day with a knowledgeable, patient, and caring teacher, this is the course for you. Richard also makes super tasty soup for lunch!
We had a fantastic day learning how to throw and hand build pottery. Richard is a great teacher who was very welcoming, patient and explained everything clearly. We came away having made a number of items which we will be returning to glaze in a few weeks. We would highly recommend this as a great day's activity!
Had a fab day learning to throw and hand build- and a lovely lunch as well!
This was our second course with Richard and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. Glazed our previous pots ready for firing and threw several new ones. Richard is a very talented potter and his home made soup is excellent! Would definitely recommend!
I booked a day's course for two people with Richard of Pottery Dayz as a surprise birthday gift for my husband. What an amazing day we had! Richard was a welcoming host and patient, knowledgeable teacher. The chance to have such individual attention was one of the main reasons for booking Richard's course, and I'm so glad I did. Whilst my husband had made some pottery whilst at school (a long time ago!), I was a complete beginner and neither of us had thrown on a wheel before. We were absolutely thrilled with the results and can't wait to go back after our pots have been fired, to decorate and glaze them. The day was paced perfectly, right down to the break for a lunch of homemade soup. I can't recommend Richard's course highly enough!
What a treat! A beautiful spring day spent with my daughter (26) and son (24) at Potterydayz. We had a very creative, relaxing, fun day together. Richard was a great teacher - patient and calm! The vegan soup was an added kindness. Would highly recommend this course!
We were were very impressed with this course. We do a lot of courses with Craft Courses.com and this came up trumps. I have to say that my wife was far better at throwing pots than I was. There is, of course, no competition between us. Richard is knowledgeable and patient. There is clearly a knack - that I didn't have. I got on better with the hand building in the afternoon. The vegetable soup at lunch was excellent.
We have left Richard to fire our pots and he will glaze them as well as we can't return to complete the process - included in the price we will need to pay for shipping. We await a parcel of finished pots in due course.
Do hesitate this is an excellent course and we highly recommend it.
I booked this as something new to try as I had always wanted to do it. I was apprehensive at first about whether or not I’d be any good! But I turned out to thoroughly enjoy it and had a great time learning different ways of pottery.
I booked this as a surprise day out for my partner Quentin and myself. We had a really lovely day. Richard the potter is an expert pottery teacher and we were really pleased with the pots we made. I'd definitely recommend if you fancy a fun, creative, relaxing day out.
The home made soup was delicious too!
Just had the most enjoyable day at potterydayz. My friends and I were all complete beginners but by the end of the day we had proudly achieved thrown pots on the wheel as well as learning how to coil clay into hand built pots. Richard was welcoming and provided a relaxed teaching approach putting us at ease and guiding us through every step of the process. Would absolutely recommend this experience! Thank you Richard
Richard was very welcoming and made us feel at ease. We enjoyed the opportunity to hand build and also try throwing pots on the wheel. Richard was patient and took time to explain, demonstrate and encouraged our own creative talents. We're clearly not naturals but learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed our day. A fantastic opportunity not to be missed!
Such fun! Really enjoyed our day. My daughter and I were engrossed from beginning to end, and found the whole day so interesting and relaxing. And we devoured the delicious soup and bread too! Richard is very patient and a great teacher - he clearly loves what he does and it shows. Would highly recommend for couples, friends or parents with a creative child. Would love to return, to throw some more!
The experience with Richard was really really great! It was a calm and tranquil atmosphere, very informal and explorative. Richard gives clear and concise directions, yet still allows you to be creative. He’s very friendly and approachable. We learnt two pottery techniques and it just made us want to go back. Will definitely recommend to others, and go back to do it myself!! The experience would be a perfect gift for others!! The soup was also fabulous!
Had a great day with six of us in Richard's studio. Lots of fun and we all came out enthused with some pretty decent attempts on the wheel - even if 5 /6 of us were left handed ( a bit of a challenge on a right handed wheel). Richard was very calm and patient with us all and has a great depth of knowledge. Highly recommended and can't wait to see the fired results.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Richard learning how to throw and hand building. Richard was an excellent teacher. He was patient and catered the lesson to my personal needs and aims. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn a new skill, or build on their existing skills. Richard made the experience memorable and enjoyable, he has inspired me to create more pots and further my new skill. Thank you for a great day!
Had a wonderful day potting, which sped by, building a coil pot along with the opportunity to throw some pots on the wheel. Richard was informative, patient, supportive and interesting to talk to. He provided lots of tea and a lovely lunch. Highly recommend as a gift for someone or to treat yourself to something different.
This was a birthday present for my husband, Trevor, and it was a big hit! Richard's patience and excellent guidance has spurred Trevor on to sign up for a course. Although I was there mainly to accompany Trevor, I really enjoyed the experience. Richard is so knowledgeable and interesting and he is an expert teacher so we both managed to make some pots. We can't wait to come back and glaze them and we will want to sign up to the Raku day in May.
In addition, there was plenty of tea and coffee on hand and the soup at lunchtime was delicious. All in all it was a great day and we shall definitely recommend the experience to our friends.
Richard created a relaxed environment where we all felt comfortable to do our own thing and enjoy the day. It was great fun and I made a vase and 2 dishes. Definitely recommend giving it a try.
We really enjoyed our day very informative and will definitely return for further tuition. The homemade soup for lunch was delicious.
Excellent day for novice grandad and granddaughter. Richard showed such patience with a 6year old and enabled her to enjoy and learn over the whole day. She and I both felt successful and managed to create something by the end of the day. My granddaughter especially enjoyed the wheel.
Just had a fantastic day, really enjoyed it. Richard is a very patient, skillful and knowledgable teacher. He was even able to get a left hander to throw a pot right handed, which was a challenge for me and probably him but he didnt show it. I cannot rate this course or the lovely lunch especially the beetroot highly enough.
If your considering this course but not sure, go for it. Its relaxing, informative and fun. I highly recommend it.
Response from Potterydayz:Hello Kathie
I had a fantastic day learning to hand build and throw with Richard in his studio. I came to the workshop wanting to learn how to properly throw whilst also identifying and fixing some bad habits I had developed! Richard was fabulous, a knowledgeable and hands on teacher, he talked me through some hand building warm ups before moving on to throwing techniques and tips. Then whilst I was throwing he was super patient and helped me actually throw some ‘proper’ pots! The whole day was relaxing and I have learnt so much in such a short period. If you are unsure if this is the workshop for you – don’t be!
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you for the generous review, I am delighted to have been able to help. I wish you the best of luck with your future pottery endeavors. Please feel free to get back in touch for any advice. Richard
I had a fantastic day's workshop with Richard in his studio. I've been learning pottery and wanted some more intensive tuition on throwing. Richard is a brilliant teacher, very patient and expressive, and the environment was really relaxing, so I felt like I was able to learn a great deal in a short period. It really helped me gain confidence. I really appreciated the tea and homemade soup for lunch, too. Oh and Richard also plays mean blues harmonica! Thanks so much.
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you Denny for those kind comments. It was a pleasure to help you along on the way to fulfill your pottery adventures. Keep up the throwing and keep in touch. You never know- the Potters Indie Blues Band may be yet be born. Richard
I loved this workshop and can say it’s the best tuition for throwing a pot I’ve had. Richard is very visual In his teaching, clearly demonstrating with his hands how to use them as effective pottery tools. This for me was so helpful and I left the class having learnt something’s very valuable about pottery and it’s potential. The chat and lunch was great too, thoroughly recommend this to everyone.
Response from Potterydayz:Delighted you and your daughter enjoyed the day-was a pleasure to do some potting with you.
Very enjoyable day learning how to throw pots with loads of time spent practising while Richard gives helpful advice. A great way to share a creative experience with friends or family. He’s a good teacher and also makes very tasty soup for lunch!
Myself and my partner attended this pot throwing course recently and really enjoyed our time here. Richard is a brilliant instructor and we gained much insight into this wonderful craft. We found it very interesting and relaxing and would highly recommend taking this course with Richard. Thank you for a fantastic day.
Response from Potterydayz:Thank you very much for the kind review- it was a pleasure to enjoy the day with you both- see you again soon.
Thank you Richard for a brilliant day. A really thorough course with plenty of excellent tuition and guidance. Learning about the two pottery methods (hand building and throwing) and getting the chance to get 'hands on' and creative finished the day off nicely.
Even as beginners we even managed to sculpt a Mediterranean thingy and a salt pig! Thanks pal ;o) !
Response from Potterydayz:Lovely to meet you both and to spend time potting with you. Thank you for the review it is very much appreciated. Your work is due to be fired this week so I will be in contact very soon so that we can arrange a time for you to pop in to get creative with the glazing. Look forward to it. Richard
Fantastic day...relaxed and welcoming environment and expert tuition with knowledgeable and interesting conversation thrown in. I really felt immersed in the artisanal craft and hopefully have a few half decent pots to show for my efforts.
Thanks Richard for a memorable experience...100% recommended!
I booked the day as a surprise for my girlfriends birthday and had a quality time with Richard. It was like spending the day with a friend you’ve known for years. He’s a brilliant teacher with a lot of patience and is happy for you to make plenty of mistakes! The homemade food was excellent too. Thanks Richard!
Response from Potterydayz:It was a pleasure to meet both you Rob and your girlfriend and to help you get potting. Thank you for that great review-most generous. Your pots have been biscuit fired and ready to be glazed- see you soon I hope.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Richard, it was very therapeutic doing something completely different from our day jobs. Richard was incredibly patient with our attempts on the wheel and we were pleased to create something usable! We have no hesitation in recommending this course.
We had so much fun! I really can't recommend this enough – Richard is a brilliant teacher and fantastic company too. And coffee and lunch were both top notch (v important). It was a perfect birthday present and I'm sure we'll be buying vouchers for friends and family for years to come. We came away feeling enthused and inspired – and can't wait to get our hands on some more clay. Thanks Richard!
Richard is a highly skilled, patient and fun teacher, and as a beginner, I would highly recommend this course to learn or even improve on throwing pots! I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely go again!
I recently took part in the pottery course, with Richard an excellent teacher. He was so patient, as a first timer throwing pots is not as easy as it may look, but within a couple of goes we all had usable pots! Fantastic! You would think having the lesson with 3 newbies would be a nightmare but it was taken in his stride, with all of us having a joyful and memorable lesson.
Definitely highly recommend, will be attending again!
I really enjoyed my time learning to throw. Richard is an excellent teacher and I actually made some pots! I would definitely recomend this course.
